I\'ve been looking for a possible trackday to fit the "gap" between the RX8OC Blyton "AGM" trackday on March 16 and Japfest on May 11. There are several possibilities, but this one looks the best option, looking at the year as a whole, and sits nicely between the other two events. It also satisfies the demand for a day at this circuit identified in the "Trackdays 2103, your input" thread.
This is a full day Open Pitlane day, ROAD CARS ONLY, price £185 (less probable 10% discount from the organisers if we get 10+ cars). If you are new to trackdays you are most welcome to join in, just search the forum for plenty of info on past trips to this circuit. Any newbies can also, on request, "buddy up" with an experienced trackday "veteran" at the start of the day, who will get you started and stay with you until you feel confident on your own on track.
Just looking for those interested at this stage, no firm commitment required for a week or two.

I will definitely take part in this! Can we organise a bit of a social the evening before? J-Rex and I live 10 minutes from Snetterton
Hi Greg - welcome along :Thumbs-up
There will be some people staying overnight the night before, and some maybe even the night after. It\'s "traditional" to have a meal and prop up the bar somewhere on those nights ;) Many who are not staying overnight before the event do stay for a meal at the end of the day itself. I\'m not overnighting, being only 1 hr away, but will stay for a meal after the day.
I think most people stayed here last time? http://www.brecklandlodge.co.uk/ (http://www.brecklandlodge.co.uk/) Room only at £49.95.
Is that OK for people who need to stay overnight, or are there other recommendations?
Greg, as a "local", is there a better place to eat near Snetterton than this hotel?
I\'ll happily facilitate hotel and meal arrangements for everyone via this thread.

There is an American style diner called Zak\'s about 20mins away, towards Norwich.http://http://www.zaks.uk.com/ (http://http://www.zaks.uk.com/) a few RX8\'s could be taxi\'s! I\'ll gladly give people a lift
I\'ll be one staying over the night before and after.
Chris
Greg - sounds like somewhere to consider eating when we get closer to finalising this event.
Ideally I need a few more people on the list so I can contact the organisers (which I plan to do next week) and seek a discount for everyone. That\'s why I\'m holding back on giving the booking details as I know they will not discount once payment has been made.

BUMP! I\'ve been busy this week but have made a diary note to call the organisers on Monday about a discount. I doubt we\'ll get one though, as I think we\'ll need 10 people to sign up. I\'ll do my best!
Anyone else up for this? - just add your name to the list :Thumbs-up
I\'ve just spoken to MSVT (MotorSport Vision Trackdays) who are running this day and the format has changed :Hammer............and so has the price...........in the right direction :Laugh
I need to check that people are happy with the changes, so please read carefully and reconfirm if you are OK;
The day will be as follows;
"MSVT’s Road Car Only trackdays capture the excitement of the track while ensuring a relaxed atmosphere without the worry of being on track at the same time as purpose built race-prepped machines. An Open Pit Lane format is normally used, meaning drivers will have the flexibility to use the track as they please throughout the day, allowing a maximum of up to seven hours of track driving. This event will be run in an open pit lane format for 40 minutes in every hour. The remaining twenty minutes within each hour is being used by the new Formula 4 Championship.
Additional drivers and passengers are encouraged and you can expect the usual optional services such as driver coaching, garage reservations and hire of our Peugeot RCZ’s.
Please note â€" this is a Road Car Only event. ALL cars must be driven to the circuit and must not resemble a racing car. Drivers must not hold a competition licence.
If you attend this event in breach of the above restrictions you will not be allowed access to the circuit and will not receive a credit or refund."
I\'ve asked about CJR\'s car being eligible and the answer is that as long as the car is driven to the track and isn\'t plastered with stickers it will be OK!
So, the downside is that we only get 40 minutes OPL an hour BUT the upside is;
1. 70 cars max with a 45 car track limit (70/30 at Brands), so queueing, maybe apart from the start of each session, shouldn\'t be much of a problem.
2. The price is now just £124, less 10% if we get 10 or more cars, so just £111.60.
3. We get 1 garage per 5 cars FREE, we can have more at £25 each.
4. We get to watch some (brand new for this year) Formula 4 car action for free! Formula 4 website link (http://www.formula4.com/)
I can\'t see another Snetterton OPL day option that "works" for us, taking account of Japfest, Rotorstock, other trackday dates, etc, (and trying to leave at least two weeks between events). I\'ve been thinking about it and I\'m happy to go with this revised setup, but will only confirm this event is "on" if we get over 5 people to confirm by the end of this week.
If enough people are OK, the arrangement will be to phone through on a direct line to book a place and reserve it with a credit card. Payment will not be taken until ~10 days before the event, and if we have 10+ people by then, the discount will be applied. If not, the full price will be taken.
I hope I\'ve explained things clearly :Hammer - ask away if not :Laugh
Please reconfirm you are OK (or not) with the above by annotating below.
Of course, additional names are also very welcome:)

:god Fair play for finding this. Looks like a great value for a track day!
However, is it worrying that the track interprets stickers as "Race Car"? Is the track management made up of 14yr olds? :Hammer
^^^ Yeah, difficult to interpret how "stickered" a car has to be to "fail" :3Confused
What I decided to do was send a pic of CJR\'s car to the organiser to be certain of eligibility. CJR does have some "Exedy" stickers on his car. They have emailed me back this morning to say it\'s fine.
If anyone is unsure, just get me a pic and I\'ll check with the organiser. He\'s responding within a few hours to all my queries so easy to check. Wouldn\'t want anyone to turn up and have their car "rejected" as a "race car". TBH, I think they will be quite lenient, but better safe than sorry :D
Are you up for this Kodiak?

Sorely tempted. Its a great price and Snet is about a 10 minute drive from the O/Hs parents. I know she\'d like an excuse to go back and spend a weekend with them.
Although I\'ve got a new (quiet) exhaust there\'s a few other things I need to get done before Japfest.
Mind you, with Lenny signing up there\'ll be another FC on track...
if the weather is good enough to get aome bits done this weekend and I borrow some tools from the guys at work I might be able to.
:censored:, I\'ll need to get 2 new tyres sooner than expected as well.
^^Go on, as you say, great track at a great price, plus Jim with another FC :Thumbs-up
We\'ve now got to the five names I was hoping for at this stage so this event is GO!
If you are reading this thread for the first time, please check a few posts above for a summary of the how the day will run. The important points;
This is a Road Car Only event. ALL cars must be driven to the circuit and must not resemble a racing car. Drivers must not hold a competition licence.
The usual trackday noise limits at Snetterton will apply for this day.
The downside is that we only get 40 minutes OPL an hour BUT the upside is;
1. 70 cars max with a 45 car track limit (70/30 at Brands), so queueing, maybe apart from the start of each session, shouldn\'t be much of a problem.

3. We get 1 garage per 5 cars FREE, we can have more at £25 each.
4. We get to watch a Formula 4 testing session for free (Formula 4 is NEW this season)! Formula 4 website link (http://www.formula4.com/)
PROCESS FOR BOOKING THIS:
Phone Stuart at MSVT on 01474 875226. Tell him you want to book on the "Rotary Group" for Snett on 17th April. He will want your personal details and a credit card number to secure your place. At 5pm on Tuesday, 2nd April he will "close the book" and will charge the event to our cards, either £124 if less than 10, or discounted by 10% if we have 10 or more. At that point I\'ll sort out what garages we will need (1 free with every 5 cars, so that\'s ~5% discount too).
Please change your status to "PAID" as I have done below, so I can keep a tally.
If you have a "mate" who wants to bring a car along and bump up the numbers in our group, no problem, it will help everyone towards the discount threshold :D

Doesn\'t look like we are going to get to the 10 we need for the discount.... oh well, it\'s only about £12 anyway.
Malcolm,
Sorry but I will not make it to this event due to unforeseen circumstances.
Hope to make up for this failure by attending as many of the other track days arranged for this year.
Chris
No problem Chris, sorry to hear you have to drop out as I know you (and the car!) love Snetterton - hope to see you at the next one :)

I will get paid up as soon as I can sort insurance, can anybody recommend a track day insurer who does not insist that you already have a policy with them. What a \'mare
Hi Greg - try these guys for "standalone" trackday insurance;
REIS - LINK (http://www.reis.co.uk/index.php/what-we-do/on-event-accidental-damage/)
MORIS - LINK (https://secure.moris.co.uk/trackday_quick_cover.asp)
SKY - LINK (http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/blog/2013/03/trackday-insurance-cover-from-sky-insurance/)
There are others, but the first tow are widely used by owners. Sky is new to this type of cover.
Usual rate is about 1% of car value (so £10,000 cover at £100) with ~10% excess. Check the small print carefully for what is covered and what isn\'t.
I\'ll be at Snetterton on 17th aswell. Sorry, haven\'t been online much n booked it direct before I thought to look on here. Looks like being a good day out.

THERE ARE STILL PLACES LEFT FOR ANY LATECOMERS, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE QUICK!
At the moment, it\'s looking like there will be no more than ~50 cars booked on this event so, with a 45 cars track limit, the 40 minute sessions shouldn\'t involve any queuing at all and would allow us one or two short sessions in each 40 minute window. In reality, this could work out better than a heavily booked Open Pitlane day where we could be queuing in the pitlane, waiting for cars to come in.
Stuart at MSV is holding back on processing payments until MONDAY. If we get 10 people booked in total then we\'ll get the 10% discount applied to all places, else it will be the full price of £124.
BOOK TODAY OR FIRST THING MONDAY, DIRECT WITH STUART ON 01474 875226, quoting "Rotary Group" . This is a great price for a trackday at Snetterton :D

Stuart at MSV is putting the payments through on our credit cards (if he hasn\'t already) on Tuesday morning. We didn\'t get to the ten we needed for the discount, but I\'ve spoken to him today and he\'s letting us have a pair of garages next to each other at no charge :Thumbs-up. That should be enough for the 6 of us to stow our gear and do any work needed during the day, especially as the forecast is for mostly dry, maybe mist and drizzle very early, but temps up to 17 degrees by the end of the day :cool

Thanks malcom for a great day. Met some great folk and the track was quite compared to a few we have been on with the standard of other drivers been some of the best.
Heidi says thanks again for the passenger ride.i think she preferred your driving style
Thanks jim & Heidi

Well thanks to the impecible timing of our car throwing a wobbler and sidelining us, I got time to take a LOT of pictures. Some of them were even in focus .... a bit.

Anyway, despite us not getting our car out on track, me and Katie had a fantastic day. Lovely to see everybody and many thanks to Greg and Malcolm for our copious passenger rides.
Hopefully we will get our car back to full health and will see you at the next one :)
I was cream-crackered when I got home last night so just catching up on here now :D
Stewart and Katie, so glad to hear you got home safely. I hope you can get your car fixed real soon, one way or another, so you can enjoy the RX-8 experience on track again later this year.
Thanks to everyone who came along yesterday. Being a smaller group, and with the "20mins off" each hour, there was plenty of time to chat with everyone (in between brake pad changes)! Fantastic to see not one, but TWO RX-7 2nd Gen Turbo II\'s (T2) on track. Jim\'s face positively lit up when he saw his car had some company :D
Thanks to Greg for the passenger rides in the T2 - absolutely amazing on track, especially given it\'s age - well driven too Greg :Thumbs-up
Stewart :notworthy: those pictures are stunning; professional quality. Your panning technique is awesome - you must give me some tips next time :D
Ian "Black Flag" Dale - don\'t worry too much about the reported sparks from your brakes, having looked at them with you I suspect it was just hot brake pad material.
Ian "Predator" - good luck if you decide to go to Cadwell on Monday. It\'s a fantastic circuit. I\'m sure, once you\'ve been, you\'ll want to return there.
Quick comments on the day from me;
Sign on - a breeze, no queue, friendly staff.
Noise test - sorry, MSV muck-up with having us on a separate list which the noise testers didn\'t have access to, until I managed to collect one from the sign-on people and hand one over. To be fair, this was a result of Stuart Garland being super helpful in putting card payments through at 5pm the day before - had we managed to get to 10 people he would have given us all the discount. As it was, he let us have the pair of garages for free.
Briefing - one of the best. Very clear, delivered with the right amount of facts, light humour and encouragement to enjoy the day.
Format of the day - Worked really well I thought. The 40 mins OPL, followed by 20 mins "off" (to watch, and HEAR, two "open-wheelers", or do some quick brake pad changes) was just fine.
Fuel - at £1.55 per litre for 99, quite reasonable for onsite.
Lunch/snacks - very good choice at reasonable prices, friendly staff.
Helicopter - nice of Jonathan Palmer to "drop in" to see me :^o
Weather - slightly damp track to start, but dried out amazingly quickly. Shame the sun didn\'t make much of an appearance, but reasonable temperatures throughout the day.
I thought, generally, the driving etiquette was excellent, just one or two minor transgressions, but nothing major at all. A VERY enjoyable day out, and full trackday number 28 completed for my dear old car :wiggle
Roll on Japfest :lol:
Forgot to add that I had great fun in the last track session hanging on to the tail of Jim for lap after lap. I was struggling to keep up, so those tyres you were using were working really well, combined with the extra power. I had Greg in the car with me so I\'ll blame the extra weight on my inability to get closer :Giggle
I\'ll see if I can salvage some video later - if it\'s any good, it\'ll have some banter on the soundtrack between me and Greg ;)
I must say did enjoy that last session you can see the difference in driving style your smooth touch giving you much better speed out of the corners and shall we call it my hit it with a hammer approach. And I did have Heidi in with me. I did mention that she is going to have to go on a diet.;-)
The driving skill of Malcolm and Jim was very high, if you do manage to upload any footage you\'ll hear me laughing at Jim hounding a brand new 911 Turbo and spitting flames on every downshift! Brilliant, just brilliant haha! The comparison between the Turbo 2 and the RX8 was my favourite part of the day both fantastic cars in slightly different guises :)
Can I second that the running of the day was spot on and the company made it even better. Having our MRC/RX8OC garage was good, couldn\'t believe the mechanics that went on the 20min breaks you guys really are competent around these cars
Another highlight was the Turbo2\'s pulling out of chicane at same time giving the pit wall spectators nice blast ;) that moment was just too cool
Stew your photography is amazing, well and truly caught the spirit of the day
Here is a a video clip of my last session of the day, having fun trying to catch Jim in his T2 :Laugh Massive fun; GregR3 is on my passenger seat (no, I\'m not talking to myself!). Excuse poor quality of video ...
A couple of 2m32s laps in there (finish line to finish line) which is slightly quicker than my fastest previously at Snetterton, so well pleased with that too.
