Title: Tach is dead
Post by: jimmydanny on February 25, 2013, 12:35:34 AM
My tachometer is dead... well, err, more like zombie, because it works sometimes, for a little while, then it just dies.

I have checked all cables going to it, I can see the needle wiggling when turning the key to the "ON" notch, but that is it. I have swapped leading and trailing coil packs with ignitors, tried all combos.

I don\'t have an extra tach to check the output of the coil though, so I am a bit in a blind spot here.

It doesn\'t seem like the car is struggling at all, boosting 0.9 easily, it does feel like the 2XX bhp I should have, so the ignition is okay I\'d say.

I am wondering if the cable from the ECU to the dash might be screwed, as it is a bad hack job down at the ECU by the PO.

Any thoughts?

If its intermittent bud then surely a loose connection...have you had the clocks out and checked all connections, screws etc on back?

Yup. And the gauge moves a mm when I turn the key to "ON", but it doesn\'t jump when cranking, or work when the engine is running
