Title: Rotary paranoia phenomenon!
Post by: boosted on February 19, 2013, 07:20:35 PM
Am i the only one that suffers this condition.....

Despite not having a rotary at mo just an astra turbo but i cant seem to drive with out 1 eye on all the gauges...popping the bonnet at least twice a week and checking all the levels....i used todo this in my FD and cant seem to shake the habit:xconfused

I used to have it really bad with my FD, although I never had a problem with it after the rebuild! It\'s just a nagging voice in the back of your head that will never go away as no one wants to spend money on rebuilds, rotary or piston.

However, checking under the bonnet means that prevention and good maintenance is better than the possible outcome.

Ha ha, I\'m totally paranoid that winter cold will get to mine. Warmed up on a regular basis and everything checked.

You should be driving the thing in winter not hibernating it!!

Ha ha, I\'ve only had it a few months, still a wee bit scared of it to be honest. Day I got it I drove 500 odd miles from London fine, only to get stuck in the snow on my street for an hour at 3 in the morning. Snow here is unforgiving at times.

i always drove with apexi hand controller on my lap...monitoring boost and coolant temp...:D

I drive around with one eye on the Apexi, another on the boost gauge and fingers crossed that I don\'t accidentally run out of fuel.

I squirm every time I press the accelerator

I decided early on not to be paranoid about the car, no point worrying every time I drive it. Its there to be enjoyed and if it goes pop it goes pop!

Have taken it out every weekend since November too, except when we had snow on the ground down here :)

I have not open the bonnet on my silver FD in two months, no apexi commander, I just plant the throttle and go every day :), if it goes it goes, but so far it has been a reliable 340bhp :)

If they go, they go.  You can\'t spend your time worrying about it too much.

I think having the commander is the main cause of people\'s concern. It\'s nice to have but completely pointless. I was always monitoring air, boost and water temps. One reason why I\'m glad I now have a Haltech,  better features on the ecu and need to carry laptop if I\'m want to do some logging, only time that will be is at pod or on a dyno:)

340fwhp blitz? What mods?

Nothing wrong with keeping an eye on things, analysis and interpreting.  But it shouldn\'t get in the way of enjoying it.

I just check oil levels when I wash the car, and enjoy the rest. Boost guage is fun to watch on RX7 compared to driving the RX8
