Started the car up last night for the first time in probably over a year
New battery and it fired up fine, idled fine, let it run for half hour or so, perfect.
Today, started fine, let it run for 10 mins or so, went for a little tootle down the street, 1st slowly then into boost (feathering throttle mind), all good, Into 2nd, all good, into 3rd and all good but then car almost dies, revs plummet, everything\'s vibrating lots with hardly no revs/power, get to the top of the hill just about (20 yards), 3 point turn and engine dies (I was afraid to rev it, was lots of vibration). Sit there gutted for a min, then try to start it, It starts just about! Luckily home was down hill, but still cut out at the junction and again getting onto the drive.
Hardly no power and I can feel the vibrating/rumbling through the car what could have happened while the car had been stood?.
Any help please guys, I\'m miles from any kind of rotary garage, I\'m talking a few hundred probably. :(
Have you got to be in a certain clique to get a reply or any help on here?
Thank fduk for the other site.
Maybe no one knew what you were talking about?? A vibration through the car is very vague to say the least.
Or people just haven\'t seen the thread?? I have only just noticed it TBH.
only reason i didnt post , as if its as bad as you are making out .. you might have blown it and its running on one rotor .. so i didnt want to be the bearer of possible bad news :(
might be worth taking the plugs out , and doing the poor mans compression test
Crank it over ( well not you , but someone ) and listen to make sure you are getting 3 even "puffs" from each rotor
It feels like the vibrating is stemming from the block itself, will not idle, power is almost non existent, just about to keep the car going jus by feathering the throttle, I didn\'t try wot, was a lot to nervous.
It\'s very hard to explain, and apologies for snapping a tad but over 30 views and up for 2 days I thought some input would be nice, even if it was to ask for a more clear explanation :)
What would be the cause of a blown rotor, it was running fine before I took it off the road, started fine after a year, big coincidence or have I possibly done something disastrous. I let if warm thoroughly, checked oil water etc (I know it needs changing before I started using it properly, I didn\'t go over 20mph and this happened :(
to be honest , i dont know if its FD specific or what , you might have blown off a vac pipe or anything
from what you have said , its not as if you did anything drastic , so it "might" be something simple ??
You really need a FD owner to read this with better knowledge than me
Ok grinder, thanks for your input :)
Hopefully it\'s not anything drastic, I have checked boost pipes and cam sensor hose.
Iv had a juddering happen due to fouled plugs and the map needing fuel taking out. Felt as if the car was cutting out the. Would give a huge lurch forward and then clear out.
Iv had boost leaks cause similar problems, actually blew one of the IC pipes off
I\'ve had boost pipes bow off in my s13 and power just dies, I\'m not sure if it would cause a rumble being a rotary.
I didn\'t take the plugs out or clean them, I was amazed it started after so long! So it maybe plug related or hopefully fuel has got Loads of gunk mixed in with it and clogged the filter and it\'s fuel related. It\'s the constant rumbling vibration which has made me panic, so wanted to know if it\'s an obvious sign of something really.
Blown rotor and knackered seals scare me. It\'s only done about 2000 miles in the 5 years since its rebuild tho.
well we can only assume its OK then :D :D :D
Fingers crossed for something simple
Check the oil system it may be gunked up from being stood
although from reading the first post , it only seems to have "broke" after being driven .. does that point to something ?
Yes grinder and it was when the car first came across a hill so was under load, more strain?
it could be i suppose , if you were making boost , it could be a hose/selanoid thats gone iffy
is it low on fuel ?? Just wondering if you have dragged :censored::censored::censored::censored: from the bottom of the tank into the fuel filter ?
I\'m almost positive I\'ve dragged gunk into the filter, I\'ve got a new one ready to replace it
Check the vac line running to the pressure sensor, if you have a pfc have a look at the pressure reading when the car is ticking over. If its showing no vaccum check the pipe first. Car chucks loads of fuel in.
How hard is the car to start ? Pulling the plugs out and turning the engine over without the egi fuse in will at least give you an idea with a basic puff test.
Shaun
No idea how the first post was missed, and can understand the frustration, hence the second post.
Real sorry to say it sounds like you have lost an Apex seal and taken the others out, I drove my FD back from Silverstone years ago with symptoms like this after literally hearing an Apex seal rattle down the exhaust pipe
Really hope I\'m wrong, but you really need to find out if you have compression by taking one plug out, turn it over on the starter, listen then put it back in and then do the same to the other rotor.
This way you will know what you have straight off without spending time and possibly money in the wrong direction.
Thanks for the replies :( :(
I haven\'t got a pfc but have a boost gauge so could check vac? I\'ll also check the vac line to sensor, thanks, and take plugs out on weekend to turn the rotors.
I have an awful feeling it\'s died :(
Maybe nasty fuel in the lines? Has been stood a while
There are quite a few youtube videos to watch with 7 s with blown tips....might be worth checking out if yours sounds similiar.....mine sounded like a chinook! lots of engine shaking no power dieing out. fingers crossed its summit else...as grinder says pull the plugs....thats how i diagnosed mine 10 mins easy peasy ( make a note of your leads positions).....back of hand by spark plug hole front and rear rotor...no air pulse...no tips....PULL THE EGI FUSE FIRST!... no smoking either. good luck.
Thanks boosted, going to have a look tomorrow
Any update on this...
I havnt long got back into the house, I\'m trying to upload a vid to YouTube from my phone.
I think it\'s died :(
I took out the top plug of first rotor and then the 2nd rotor. The pssh noise was loud and clear from the rear rotor, hardly noticeable from the front although still a constant \'beat\', just not a loud pssh. Guys on other forum instantly stated this is a sign of no compression on front rotor :( :( gutted!
I don\'t really know where to from here.
sorry bud tips/apex seal blown on front rotor.....
my front rotor blew last year mate...know how it feels i was gutted ....got a few choices...rebuild or sell spares repair .
prob best to upload to photobucket.
What did you choose to do? Mines still totally standard twins rats nest jobby. Might be worth simplifying the nest while it\'s out, want to keep twins really.
I\'m nowhere near the funds for a rebuild yet tho I don\'t think. Did you do the 2 rotors while it was out?
It seems like a minefield of choices and decisions.
I\'ll try photobucket now thanks.

I don\'t know how to imbed it sorry.
Engine sounds very sorry for itself

I sold mine spares or repair wasn\'t an easy decision but moving house so that took priority.
