Possibly better in the electrics section but hey..
I am looking at slimline rad fans for my radiator and notice that they all seem to come with 2 wires on them yet the OEM fans have 4 wires?
why the 4 wires and can I wire up just 2 to get some universal fans working correctly?
Thank you
Lee
I would imagine that the stock fans run at 2 speeds then...
Okay.. So if that is correct I guess I need to be careful which wires I use for a standard fan!? Surely a fan speed can ne controlled with two wires anyway?

Ithink the stock fans run either both together or just the one depending on what you have got switched on in the car??
I know that when you press the AC button it brings both fans on.
Simplest way to figure it out is to
Turn the fans on and test which cable has voltage at it when they\'re on, then simply loop that wire to your second slimline fan:) both work together then as at the same speed. :) some times the easiest solution can be overlooked.
Hi Grant,
Well I didn\'t know the fan running had so many options! Two speeds and one fan or both!? Still not sure it explains 4 wires to both fans?
When you say switch the fans on is there an override to do this in the diagnostic box or something? Or do you mean heat up the fan switch to a suitable temp? Depending on how the wiring goes I wonder if I can just re-run two fresh wires? I hate electrics! So glad I have to wire up an ECU in due course!!
Need to get my head around some circuit diagrams soon.

Perfect explanation and much appreciated.
Thank you for that. now I know what I am doing. I will try and look up the wiring diagram to get some more understanding of it as well. Good idea to use the A/C switch to put the fans on as well!

Thanks again.. great stuff.
