My FD has been off the road for best part of the year, with an issue with overheating... now i\'m just getting round to either fixing it or sadly selling it on as a non runner :(
Car starts up fine, it heats up to temperature as usual then after a minute or so the temp will start to rise at this point i turn the ignition off! Coolant seems to be expanding and then overflowing out of the bottle - losing a lot of water.
Wondering if anyone has seen similar issues - i\'m thinking water pump is knackered? I can\'t be certain, but i\'m pretty sure this issue only started appearing intermittently after i had coolant change and clutch fitted at a garage.
Been offered a straight swap on a mates working mitsibushi GTO but id really rather keep the FD if it is repairable.
Give me a call tomorrow at the shop.
Regards
Carl
Could be a few things.
Usually when the water pump is on the way out it starts to weep out of the front of the cover to forewarn you of iminant failure.
Change the thermostat, it could be getting stuck in the closed position. Is the hoses and the radiator getting hot when the car warms up ?
An air lock could be a big possibility. Worth dropping the fluid and refilling the coolant system. Pull the pipe off the back of the throttlebody (highest point in circuit). Fill up at the AST until its filled to the top. Put cap on and then fill from the filler neck, squeeze the upper hose to release as much air as possible. Cut up a 2lt plastic bottle to produce a head of water and carry on filling. Watch the pipe on the back of the throttle body for fluid being pushed out. At this point fill bottle high and with a good flow out of the pipe and pickup refit the pipe on the back of the throttle body. Then fill the overflow tank to 1/2 level. Fire car up and let it warm slightly. if the level drops add fluid. Allow to fully warm up. When cool check level in filler. Do this for a good few runs. If the car starts taking a wee from the drivers side then the system is full, usually not a bad sign because its pushed all the air out.
Just a starter for ten !
