Title: Apexi Air Filter question...
Post by: Jon_P on January 26, 2013, 04:37:18 PM
Time to pick your brains!

I\'ve just installed Apexi Filters to the car, and it\'s running perfectly but there is an odd whirring noise coming at low revs - around 1800-2200rpm.

I THINK it\'s something to do with air pump, but not 100%. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this as I\'m baffled by it. I don\'t even know what the air pump purpose is.

The Moooooo sound :D

The air pump pipe should have a restrictor in it to stop this (looks like a wine bottle cork with a hole drilled in it/easy to make or replace - as in the picture).

Generally found them 1/3 to half way down the pipe itself and only managed to remove them by cutting the pipe up :2Rolleyes

It hasn\'t been decat no... That will all be happening during the course of the year, and more importantly when I find a \'99 Power FC...

So should I go get another pipe made up by somewhere like Hyphose and just replace it? I take it this is the pipe that goes from the air pump directly to the Apexi filter?

Small one holds the two filters together, next size holds the lower filter down and the long one holds the top filter to the side if my memory works :3Confused.. easy to make

I haven\'t quite understood what I need to do in order to stop this noise. It\'s really :censored::censored::censored::censored:ing me off as it\'s constantly doing it when travelling at 30-35mph in 4th gear. What do I need to do in order to stop this happening? Someone please help and advise.

Buy a broom handle, cut a piece off and drill a hole through the middle for the time being. The airpump is only there to help with passing emissions test.

How big a hole buddy??

By sheer judgement on how big it looks on the photo I would guess about 10 or 12mm and about an inch long pipe. Personally I would just disconnect the air pump, it serves no purpose apart from assisting in passing emmissions.

But I\'ve heard if you do that, it clogs the cat up quite quickly, and I still have my cat as haven\'t got a Power FC yet.

I wouldn\'t waste time with that restrictor thing. Just get yourself a decent exhaust system. I have a very nice racing beat back box for sale ;)

Silenced midpipe for sure, am sure Carl / Hayward can sort you out with one of them, they did me :)
Get all the bits ordered / hoarded, then take a trip to Hayward, getting it all fitted, then mapped... all will be well with the world :)

That\'s exactly what I am doing :) But, at the moment I\'m trying to stop my car from mooing! I just need to know what to use....

Try a piece of broom handle with a 10mm or so hole through it, or just disconnect the air pump :)
