Title: Value of car
Post by: Jon_P on January 21, 2013, 07:41:01 PM
Hi guys.

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what I expect is fairly common question... I am trying to find out what the value is of my car... Not because I want to sell it, but more so I have an idea of what a REALISTIC value is for general knowledge and also so I can let my insurers know a proper value.

It is a 99 Spec Type RS
Standard
Mica Blue
43,000 miles
Original engine
Rear compression - 6.6 6.4 6.3
Front compression - 7.3 7.3 7.3

Thanks :)

I expect other people will have other suggestions, but to me the only way I know to value a car is to see what other similar cars have sold for (note - not what they\'re advertised for, but what people actually pay for them).

The last Series 8 (\'99-spec) car that I know of being sold in the UK was... yours.  Incidentally, there was another one sold at around the same time that was last advertised for £7500 (a silver TW Whites car).

I\'m not trying to be difficult, but since you bought your car quite recently it\'s difficult to see why the \'open market\' value would be significantly different from what you paid for it.  Especially as the car was offered for sale for several months at ~£8k IIRC, before you bought it.

Honestly I really really like your car, I would have bought it if you hadn\'t beaten me to it, I think it\'s a great example of the best, most reliable version of the FD in the best colour with all the right factory bits on.  And I wouldn\'t be surprised if cars like yours go up in value in the next 5-10 years.  But right now, I can\'t see it being worth much more than £8-9k on a \'mark to market\' basis.

I agree wholeheartedly mate. I was thinking those exact thoughts myself, I just thought I\'d try and get some second, third, fourth, fifth etc opinions from you all to see what everyone else thought. I LOVE mine, and I do not see myself selling it for a LONG time. I will be buying the F10 M5 next as that is what I was going to get after my E60 M5 blew the engine last year, but my RX7 came up at jut the right time as I was looking for one as a toy for a while.

I would like to see mine appreciate nicely over the next few years, which I am sure it will do. All the modifications I am doing to the car are in keeping with the car too to ensure that the market value isn\'t affected. I don\'t want to do any mods that can\'t be reversed easily or without spending lots of money etc as I am concerned it will affect the value.

Anyway, thanks for your input. I\'ll be interested to see what others say too :)
