Just wanted peoples opinions or experience on this subject. Basically the car is coming to the point where its going to be running soon (hopefully). The interior is stripped and painted and the customs wiring/dash will be going back in.
After some thought the other day the subject of interior heat come up, now coming from an MR2 background where engine/transmission heat was not a concern on a stripped interior as it was behind, the RX7 is completely different kettle of fish.
Having looked at a few options I was intending to install some thermo-tec cool-it on the transmission tunnel and floor boards. However im a bit reluctant to put back something like that after it\'s taken so long to get the interior painted and obviously will be like starting from square one again if I have to strip it out (anyone whos ever stripped and painted an interior will understand the shear agony this is). On the other hand I don\'t want excessive heat to destroy what little comfort is left in driving this thing. Can\'t stand getting overheated!
So basically I\'m just after opinions/guidance based on others experience.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kevin,
Whilst I cannot advise what would be the best options, I know a few guys on here are running without interiors, so hopefully they will come along and advise.
It would be great to see some pictures of the progress.
Chris
Thanks Chris. I will be putting a build thread up soon.
Getting back to original question the other option I thought maybe reflect-a-silver, however as this would be installed on the interior I didn\'t know whether it would have an adverse affect in passing radiating heat through to the cabin??
I had a Westfield with 4 branch and side exhaust. High output engine so it radiated lots of heat in to the pedal box. To counter this I stuck thermo tec type heat insulation on thge outside of the pedal box (the bulkhead inside the engine bay). That worked a treat.
I would adopt the same philosophy to an FD, so putting the heat insulation on the outside of the trans tunnel/bulk head etc.
But as I said, I\'m no expert !!
Insulate on the outside for sure, that way you won\'t be too worried about maybe having to remove it at a later point. They do gold reflective tape, nice and easy to install.
Ceramic paints would be good too. Also ceramic coating your exhaust to keep heat in too
Thanks Grant. The pipes are going to be zircotec type finish, and i will line the exterior however I\'m interested in the theory why the majority of Jap track cars ive seen; seem to insulate the interior as per above image.
You could check out Lizard Skin (http://www.lizardskin.com/). Don\'t have any first hand experience of it, but it looks like it might be the sort of thing you\'re after.
You can get it here in the UK - http://www.agriemach.com/c319/ceramic-insulation/
I have no interior, no sound proofing. There is some thermal blanket covering the area next to the exhaust. Still have the stock heatshield plate in the tunnel and nothing else.
I have the exhaust ceramic coated on the Turbo, manifold and downpipe.
I haven\'t really had any heat problems bar middle of summer.
I still have the heater but the stock plumbing has gone too and there isn\'t any aircon system at all !
If you damage the mid pipe it has been known to bubble the paint up on the tunnel !

I do usually have the windows down a touch when running round tracks. It gets warm but not completely unbearable !

Wonder what Amemiya used in new hurricane car? Any ideas?

That may be inconel shielding. Very expensive

I\'ve used an acoustic heat shield on the underside of the tunnel to reduce the heat quite noticeably. Made from ~4mm fiberglass adhesive mat with an aluminium heat shield on top.
I can\'t exactly remember where I bought it but the "Acoustic Heat Shield" on thermalvelocity.co.uk or DEI "Floor & Tunnel Shield II" was the stuff I bought.

I\'m going to be using the above DEI tunnel shield product also on the underside of the tunnel. I don\'t see the point in using a reflective product on the interior. It will be good at combating radiated heat. I purchased it from Summitracing in the States as this was cheaper than the UK.
For the interior I am using basic closed cell foam. Very cheap as is used for industrial/housing applications and is basically an equivalent to Dynaliner. It is extremely light. I\'ve covered the entire floor (heat and noise) including tunnel and boot with a 6mm product. May double up in some areas also.
I have not tested the above yet, but I did a lot of resarch.
