Title: Rebuild time!!
Post by: Initial-D on July 21, 2004, 09:41:57 PM
Unfortunatly after a tiring day at work I decided to sort my car for JAE, oil/water/etc... Hmm water a bit me I thought - topped it up and all done.

Turned her over and was greeted by a tractor Nooo :( single rotor start up!!

After turning her off and releasing the pressure from the water filler she started fine but the water temp went higher and higher :( !! Looking underneth the car I noticed a waterfall feature that hadn\'t been their before either!

Spoke to Carl who confirmed my thoughts that it\'d be a water seal thats gone doh!:reallymad

So I\'m looking for a rebuild along with a street port (and possibly a better I/C intake and fuelling depending on the overall cost). Anyone got some advice on where to go??

Help most appreciated!

Talk about bad timing right before JAE too!!

My mobiles 07905 225658, email on benjamin.j@virgin.net or PM/reply to this thread with any suggestions - Thanks.

Hi Ben,

Real real choked for you, l was looking forward to seeing the car after seeing the pictures with it\'s stickers on.

Sadly this sounds like it\'s due to the water shortage yoiu suffered the other day :( :( :( :( :( :(

I know it\'s not the same, but try and get up n see us all still, after all it\'s a social event as well and not just all about cars.

Yep I\'m looking for a set of wheels I can hijack or share at present!

Still not sure if it was the pipe coming off that caused it or just the seal going, that caused the pipe to come off... a bit chicken and egg really.

Please any rebuilders keen to take on my car get in touch as I\'m so eager to get back on the road after only driven her three times since I got her back from the bodyshop last week!

I would recommend speaking to Ross at Dragon Performance, he\'s very friendly and helpful+they seem to have immense rotary knowledge+they do a weekend rebuild, port, vac hose replace etc and pay for a B&B so you can have a holiday and get your car fixed!

There in exeter (devon).

(they also have the fastest rex  in the country so they must know their stuff :god )

Feel for you mate, going through a rebuild myself at the moment...

Carl
Pip @ WGT
Dragon
Tim at rx motors (i think)

All do rebuilds, best thing to do is speak to them all and then decide what to do. There are others but i cant remember at the moment..

Regards

You think he rebuilds engines, or you think his company\'s called RX Motors? :rollin

Tim\'s probably built more engines in the UK than any one else ;)

I\'m a bit biased towards WGT as Pip\'s done all the work on my toy so far.  Can\'t speak too highly about the work he\'s done so far (rebuild including new housings, porting, de-cat and mapping).

The rebuild wasn\'t the cheapest of experiences from memory labour came in at just under £2k (including the porting) and parts came to > £2.5k (this included quite a few ancillary parts like full hose replacement, re-cored rad, new engine mount, etc.).

Also rate Carl from talking to him and his general rep.

Don\'t think you could go far wrong with either of them!

There used to be database on FDUK yahoo group of peoples experiences with engine failrues i.e. what happened and which engine builder they used and how they were rated, quite interesting I thought, may be some thing simliar could be setup some where for peoples reference when the time comes?!

Yeah that\'d be ideal - I\'d be happy to post my experiences once the works done.
