Hi,
Went to see a mk1, series 1 rx7 the other day and I was left puzzled by the exhaust. My dads series 3 has a small additional pipe down the side of the exhaust whilst this early one was just a straight single exhaust, no small pipe. Is this normal, did the exhaust system change between series 1 and 3 or is one of the exhausts from either my dad\'s series 3 or the series 1 non-standard?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
James
They all had that small pipe as standard, this comes from the thermal reactor bolted to side of engine block where exhaust exits engine block which is a for emmisions control but often they are removed cos you make more power with header pipes so hence no need for it plus they weigh alot, likely that is what has happened in your case.
No need for an emmision test but visual test only on the RX7 so no need for it really.
That having been said when one is on the car it has really low emmisions, even lower than when a cat is used.

What\'s your budget? My gen 1 is for sale :driving
Thanks for the details, that clarifies that question!
And with regards to your Series 1 being for sale, is it built pre-1982?
Thanks J
No it\'s a series 3 gen 1 one of the last 1986, follow the link in my sig
is it a series 1 you are after specifically then?
Look on Autotrader. There\'s a 1980 series 1 that is causing a lot of drooling. There are only about 10 Series 1\'s that are actually roadgoing or rally cars. (S1\'s still seem to be popular rally cars). We call all SA or FB RX 7\'s \'1st Generation\' Within that are Series 1, S2 and S3 cars. Mark\'s car is a super restoration job Series 3.
The under bonnet on the Autotrader car is dirtier than I\'d like it to be.....maybe a bargaining point. Check inside the rear wheel arches and the rear sills very carefully.....they are the main rust points.....Good Luck.
