Had some serious setbacks, found out the body wasn\'t rocksolid like i thought..
The left siderail (dont know the exact English name) turned out completely rotted after prying away some underbody coating.
But that doesnt matter for the total project, it just affects the timeframe in which it wad all planned.
As for the engine, it will be built from my S5 TII engine that came out of the car i have owned for almost 8years. I was running it with a BNR stage4 turbo, pushing out somewhere around 400hp.
The engine was rebuilt over 10years ago and still running pretty strong with about 6bar compression
Defined Autoworks has calculated some port specs for me and will complete that with a matching header. They will be cutting custom porting templates for me.
primary ports--- Intake Open- 14 degrees ATDC / Intake Closed - 65 degrees ABDC
Secondary ports--- Intake Open 110 degrees BTDC/ Intake Closed- 65 degrees ABDC
Exhaust will be their race port configuration.
The intake will be a custom built heated inlet manifold that hold dual Weber 28/36DCD carbs.
Long small diameter primary runners for low-end torque, short large secondary runners for high-end hp
the primary and secondary are not connected to eachother, so the huge amount of overlal of the bridge will not affect idle quality and low-speed driveability.
Redline will be at 8500, because of the pretty basic build and everything is calculated to this spec. Higher redline is useless on a streetcar anyway
suspension will be a full gsl-se swap so it sits a little lower, have better brakes and a slip diff.
Also more choice in wheels with the different PCD.

Well, its not too bad considering it is a 38year old car ;)
Besides the siderails and some other small spots, the body is pretty well preserved.
It has however been fixed in the 90\'s, they welded in new rear quarters which was done right.
But the rails were patched with some pieces, which is never a good idea really...
Got lots to do, i will be re-wiring the entire car aswell..
Have had too many electrical gremlins in the FC, i never want to run into stuff like that again!
Furb, love the project, but just my 2 cents here.. after having ported several plates and engines, my opion on porting has changed quite a bit. If I would have to do it al over again, I would leave the primary ports alone (for low end torque and general driveability) at most a little opening up on the closing side. (and a bi of polishing in the runners.
Same thing for the secondary ports but maybe a bit more opening up on the closing side.
People may disagree with that, but in my opinion it\'s more than enoguh when you plan on using the car for the occassional drive around the church, meeting and highway pull against an ignorant Porsche :p. Except if you are draging with a huge turbo and only use the car for that, I would recommend more extreme porting.
I already thought of that, because my initial chats with defined were about a Bridgeport secondary only.
They provided me with a matching primary in case i need it.
when i started thinking about my N/A setup, driveability was my main concern.
I had lost that a bit in the FC, so i know what not to do..
Coming from 400hp, i already knew i was not going to settle for 150rwhp
I set myself a goal of somewhere around 200rwhp, but with low speed driveability.
I did that only after i had found out about the rotary engineering DCD setup, which allows you to drive like stock in the low revs and still have the 200rwhp potential.
Low speed driving should also have about the same mileage as my 929 had from the fsctory, possibly even better.
According to defined, with port specs provided i should obtain anywhere from 210-240rwhp, depending on the tune and accuracy of the calculations for the manifold and header.
With a stock primary 200 should be within reach.
At first They tried to offer me their circuit SPEC streetport, but that would lower my torque too much so i didnt agree to that. It would have 230rwhp potential with those specs.
The new specs would offer about as much no, but lots more torque.

Did you sort the offset problem, if not why not strip the wheels and have the 7mm machined off the back, so much less work than axle narrowing
Need to transfer the rx-7 brakes onto the 929 axle, so i need to cut and weld.anyway...

went to visit the paintshop today to check on the progress
progress is slow due to other work, and also the epoxy coating has made it a bit difficult.
the previous owner had put on somekind of boat coating which is very hard and takes a lot more time to sand. also had troubles with the filler, reacting with the coating.
it took some time to find the right materials and mixtures to make it all stick and stay on like it should.
slow but steady we are getting there.... :)

bodywork has stalled a bit, cause it\'s a bit too hot and humid to do the bodywork.
The filler has hardened before it\'s on the car, and he is not willing to compromise by using different compound. Quality is key, even if that means it will take longer...

Thats looking really nice aye! Been following this quietly for a while now haha. What makes you go with the tophat over the piece you got from T3? Is the standard bit weak or something? I don\'t know too much about this stuff :p
Modified the T3 tophats because they were no good imo.
They were too high, which preloads the spring a lot, and they are not centered so can wiggle around too much
I ordered them just for the bearing, i was lazy to find out what type it was :)

I don\'t know a lot about carb tuning yet, but I will take my time ;)
These are Weber DCD 28/36 carbs, they were used in the 70\'s by Rotary Engineering and sold as a kit with manifold for both 12a and 13b.
People who have had these, say it is the best in the world for a street setup.
Ideal for half bridge
Because they are so rare I decided not to wait for one to come up for sale, but build my own.

Furb, just an observation,
I am sure the RX-4 takes its oil in under the venturies which means the oil gets washed in with a petrol spray.
I am a little worried that you may clog up some of the small jets doing it the way you are ?
If you want I will pull the air filter off the RX-4 and double check
Many different ways to do it.
Feeding it into the float bowl is something that has been done many times on various types of carb.
It\'s not even that much, cause it\'s only 1 line feeding 1 carb feeding 1 rotor.
The amount of fuel going through it should flush it more then enough.
I can also adjust the flow on these fittings, to find the right amount of premix.
If that doesn\'t work out after all, I can always plug up the holes and add fittings to the manifold.
but I doubt it will be an issue

I know.. the server I use doesn't want to work anymore and I can't figure out why.
They worked for a couple of hours, and then no more, Every time...
While they are in the same folder as the older pictures and have the same viewing rights.

i have to sit down for this with my laptop which is rare for me to do :blush:
long story short:
car doesnt run yet, few technical bits need to be sorted before i can try and start it.
the exterior is finished and i gave it a good clean and polish last weekend.
next weekend is the 20th anniversary of the Dutch RX-7 club where it will be put up for display

car has been finished and registered in 2016, got the new engine registered aswell so it is all legal.
engine starts and runs fine, just needs some tuning.
and then life took a turn when i suddenly sold my apartment way sooner then expected.
we bought a new house, and i proposed to my girl and ofcourse she said yes! :)
last couple of months i have only been working in and around the house, havent even been to my garage in a while...
next week ill probably get the car out of storage to get it running well, so i can do a decent burnout on my wedding in July ;)
