Pretty much reakon I\'ve just thrown a tip! :(
Come of the dual carageway after an enthusiastic run did 100yards and felt it running lumpy then it died and won\'t start although I don\'t want to keep turning it, recovery on the way..... I need to phone uncle Era I think!
not done a chuff test yet but just preparing for the worst can anyone recommend a good write up for engine removal?
gearbox on or off?

found this one that looks ok

Post by: mpk490p on April 22, 2014, 11:00:10 AM
ok so thankfully i may have jumped the gun here
after just parking it Friday and having no time to look at it i finally got round to a chuff test yesterday, 3 good chuffs on each rotor so thats all good :D (Both rotors sounded the same as the video)
however after pulling the plugs the leading ones where really black and I\'m surprised it has been running at all! (Ashamed to say i haven\'t changed them since owning the car about 4.5k) i did have some new that i was going to drop in on the next service, dropped these in but still not starting so l left them out as i\'m hopping it just flooded now, will hopefully get another chance to look at it today

Post by: cyman on April 22, 2014, 02:42:48 PM
If plugs are black you need to check that there is still a spark then work back from there. Leads, coils, coil and ignition wiring. Also check any odd reading on off commander of you have one as I had similar issue that was related to contacts at the ecu causing temp sensor to read minus figures and it changed the trimming so much it didn\'t run right at all.

Fingers crossed something simple
Title: Bit more on the project (FD)
Post by: mpk490p on April 22, 2014, 03:11:51 PM
yes checked spark on all 3 coils yesterday and they were all good so fingers crossed it just blew out a spark plug and then flooded
Title: Bit more on the project (FD)
Post by: mpk490p on April 27, 2014, 04:00:57 PM
after having a good look back at some videos using a piston compression tester and slowing them down from what i can see i have lost compression on both rotors:confused:would certainly explain why it won\'t get close to starting and totally failed on me
obviously this isn\'t as reliable as a proper tester but below are the results i can see
R1
C1 25PSI
C2 25PSI
C3 85PSi
https://flic.kr/p/nobDBP
R2
C1 84PSI
C2 30PSI
C3 70PSI

anyone near Santapod with a engine hoist i could borrow in a couple of weeks!

Seems strange mate that you were driving and then low compression on both chambers...mine got me home on 1 rotor! so your getting spark? what about fuel? Sounds fuel or electrical timing to me.
Title: Bit more on the project (FD)
Post by: mpk490p on April 27, 2014, 08:08:10 PM
yes I\'ve had that before and got home on 1 rotor, fuel and spark all good and strong, its had new plugs since trying to start it, theory is bits from one rotor broke and entered the other via the turbo :(

So engine debris from 1 chamber exits through exhaust manifold hits turbo compressor wheel and fires back up manifold and enters other chambers...i can see it being possible but that would be really unlucky and a 1in a million shot.

Really hope this is not the case is it worth getting rotary tester on there before you pull motor?

they will backlight blue once lit
also discovered the ABS and Heat bulb had been removed, presuming this means they were trying to hide issues!
will stick some bulbs in and see what we get!

ok not done much of a update here,
so the engine is at Oldones waiting to be stripped (next couple of weeks)
meanwhile i have been stripping and cleaning the engine bay, plenty of bits on order (929 brake master, clutch master and slave rebuild kits, fuellab FPR, a few shinny bits from DM\'s) also doing the callipers they just need stripping off along with all the wishbones for blasting (have another set that have been poly bushed to go on) should have a Exedy Hyper single on its way soon, poly engine mounts are here oh and did i mention cleaning! also had my injectors flow tested and cleaned where needed :D:thumbsup:

Title: Bit more on the project (FD)
Post by: mpk490p on June 02, 2014, 06:20:09 PM
the tips were still in there although a couple felt like they were stuck back in the rotor still guessing really until it gets pulled, i think it could be corner seals, not pulled the turbos apart yet either to look at the damage

Looking real good :)

Quick question if you don't mind. I plan on doing my diff bushes next year and giving the back end a bit of love (ooooh errrr). How hard was it to get the diff out using axle stands? Do you need the whole car up in the air or can you just get away with the back?

i only had the rear in the air mind you i don't have an engine or front bumper on so don't know if you will get away with lifting it that high with the bumper on.
was a bit of a pin on my own but i used a trolly jack to get the diff out and back in just takes a bit of patients and strength to do  ;)

So managed to get a bit more done now the weather has improved!
got the Apexi IC and rad mock fitted, just need to make up some brakcets for the rad then figure how the under tray with fit! Currently the rad sits right on top of where the under tray will be so low but it can't be fitted any higher

Talk about timing! so the engine is due to be fitted next weekend and BNR twins come up for sale! :D they should arrive just in time ;)
seen some good data for running 18-19psi making 400RWHP (US) so looking forward to getting these on..... lucky i already have the additional bits to support this (1680 secondaries, larger intercooler, 3bar map sensor) may look at water injection just to help keep things cool

So while most were off at japfest having a blast I did a few more jobs on the FD
Fitted the street diffuser, had to cut the re spats to make it all work but happy with the end result!

Changed the diff oil and fitted a diff brace (what a pig!) most photos I've seen they don't have the extra bracing mine has? (Answers on a postcard, mines a RS so maybe a stock upgrade?) Anyway after a few words and a bit of cutting it all got put together just hope it doesn't need to come off in a hurry!
