Title: wheel studs...
Post by: leggysrx7 on July 20, 2004, 08:14:42 PM
Help...

....looking to get my split rim 17" alloy wheels refurbed, centre piece blasted and painted, and the outside edge polished, however most companies won\'t touch them unless i can get replacement stud\'s incase they break as they strip the wheels down....I\'ve included a picture of the studs required...

....does anyone know where i\'d get some from???It\'s either refurbishment of the current wheels or buying new ones.......

Any advice welcome.

Buy some more!!

I\'ll take those off your hands if you ask nicely.  I suppose.

Wouldn\'t have thought it would be hard to get hold of those jobbies though as they must be standard bits.

maybe worth asking local or not so local wheel/tyre experts presuming it wasn\'t one which told you this? Surely it\'s basically just a fancy wheel chrome (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/ruinkai/coolgleamA.gif)screw/allen key kinda thing.......

Do you have anywhere near that specialises in nuts and bolts, you might want to take one to them and see if they can match it?

Ill consider them if they are for sale :p

They need to use the correct torque settings on them and if thats ok I dont see any reason why one would snap.  Refurbing split rims is a pain in though.

Donato....

...received an email back and it seems that Thomas Smith Fasteners might be able to help.....I\'m heading there on Friday so i\'ll let you know.....

....reckon i might manage to get them off though without breaking them though...couple of hours soaked in WD40 and the correct tools and i\'ll be sorted.....

...think you mentioned refurbing your wheels....I\'m thinking of using a company called \'trims and things\' up in coatbridge....decent quote and excellent recommendation....again i\'ll let you know how it goes.....

..hows the motor??

Hi Marc,

That would be great if you can let me know as my wheels are a bit tired looking.

Engine is still at WGT but most of the parts are assembled and ready to go. depends on when i get my engine back as im off on holiday in a week so hopefully get it back before then and at least get started on it. Costing an absolute fortune but it will be worth it in the end as it should be more powerful and more reliable too.

Hopefully one day we can get a Scottish meet together when everyones car is actually working!

How much is the wheel refurbishment costing? Hopefully be able to afford that after rebuild and respray!

Cheers

...guy reckons it\'ll cost around £250 for the refurb, thats me getting the middle section blasted and painted silver, and the outer edge re polished. He\'ll sort out the kerbing as well...how much is the respray gonna cost you??always liked the idea of getting my car resprayed......

Im to scared to get quotes for the respray until my rebuild is finished! :D

Is that £250 for all 4 wheels?? Are you to take them apart yourself? Or is that £250 a wheel  I havent had quotes for this before so i have no idea...
Title: wheel studs...
Post by: leggysrx7 on July 22, 2004, 09:45:54 AM
the first place quoted me £350 for all four wheels, that was to blast them back them, weld the damaged parts then respray them a chrome finish...the full wheel....that was the place in Airdrie that i mentioned a few months ago....

..place in coatbridge is around £250 for four wheels, but he\'ll rub back the damage as its on the outer edge (obviously!!) then re polish, keeping to the original design....that\'s including strippin them down..his concern though was  if he broke a stud....i might do that for him by soaking them in wd40, leaving for a couple of days them taking them off...reckon it\'ll take a wee bit off the price.....just wanna confirm that i can get replacement studs.....just incase!!!!!Either that or it\'ll be new alloy wheels......

Hi Mate,

I need as many studs that break when i refurb the wheels! I think im going to leave the wheels till last, i cant keep spending spending spending... After last weeks bonnet purchase i may have some sleek headlights now and Im off on holiday on saturday.

i think the wheel refurb might be a 2005 event now...as long as the rest of it is done i can live with that!

Good luck with the MOT, keep us posted on how you get on..

Cheers
