Hi guys, does anyone have any advice on boost controllers out there, i mean any particular type i should go for, are they car specific.
Hi mate,
A good one to go for is the Blitz dual-sbc spec s....I know Geff down at RE WORX is doing a good deal on them....well cheap at a little over 200 squid.
STEVE.....
The spec S is only a single solenoid version. The Spec R is the dual version. I have this one on My FD. Not had chance yet to comment on it, but as a boost controller it comes with everything you need and looks pretty good....if thats any help :)
Cheers
adam
And? :) Why spend the extra money if a Spec S will do the job? There are quite a few people using them successfully thats for sure. I know the single solenoid is rated to \'only\' 16psi or some thing but thats probably good enough for most of us! What boost are you going to run on your T04 Adam?
Not to say the Spec R isn\'t a nice item; Geff has one on his car which makes some thing in the region of 450 at the wheels at the moment and has run 11.49 at 127mph.
Both the Spec S and R are great boost controllers for the money, the control on Geff\'s car is faultless, it lets the boost build very quickly but I\'ve not seen any spiking or creep - and with a quite a high target boost at times :D
Others I\'ve heard good things about but not used are the Profec\'s.
I\'m not into the AVC-R myself but if that big lcd display-stuff floats your boat then probably worth a look. Quite expensive though in comparison I think?
And.....the reason being, for an extra 30 quid i could get the spec R!!!!! 16PSI is about 1.1 bar....why run a solenoid to the max cause for an extra 30 notes you can get one that does it easily....that was my reasoning......sorry if that upsets you
Adam
:rollin Upset? No sir :)
Sorry was just pointing out that the spec S, inspite of only having one solenoid, is more than adequate for the majority of FD owners, especially those with twin turbos which must be, oooo - 90% of them?
Seriuosly - what boost are you going to run on your car adam? I think a lot of tuners will tell u that 14psi on pump gas is where you run out of knock protection. The Spec S is rated \'safely\' to 1.2bar or 17.4psi; more than adequate I\'d have said, which was my point...
Oh, and I know you may be able to get them for less! but if you go by the Blitz website, the S retails for £246+vat and the R is £349+vat - a bit more than £30 difference. Whats the point in paying the extra for the sake of it?
As OJ would say *man hugs* Adam, no offense.

Hi rich
Is that how much it\'s putting out:cool , what sort of boost, we were running 1.06kg/mm (15psi) at rotorstock, so must be making a similar amount of power at the moment;) Car will be put on dyno soon, for high boost:eek:
Jason
P.S I do prefer a twin solenoid (for singles) but alot depends on setting any boost controller up

It made 431atw on the rollers before RS, just about made 16psi before tailing off on the little turbo, I\'m guessing its making a bit more on max\'s GT35R, but time has never allowed proper mapping. It has run a bit more than 16psi on the ball bearing turbo though :bandit, its quite fun on the road!
Hopefully one day it\'ll have a turbo as big as ross\' on it, you must be looking for 550atw on the B/P running that thing or the T88, yeah? :)
That black thing makes a lot of noise and has a lot of get up and go on 15psi - take it u will running big boost at pod next month? I\'d like to see it run next time so let us know when u r running matey.
Oh, and whats this about putting the car on a dyno eh?! I didnt think u 2 did dyno\'s :rollin
U 2 going to JAE at the weekend?

It will still be mapped on the road(one with at least 4 lanes!). The car is changing quite alot (ancillaries), I think just a good condition gearbox would make alot of difference to the times aswell as more boost.
Yes we should be at the pod next month.
I am trying to get to JAE at least one day
Bang on with the gearbox, Geff\'s is being rebuilt at the moment - I think it was making more noise than the engine on the way back from RS! And the second hand one he fitted for the last pod outing was w#nked by the time I got it home!
See u at the weekend then hopefully...
Oh and b careful on the road boys :)
Hey Jay,
I think we should all meet up for a rolling road shoot out before we run next. need to be al on the same dyno and same day for true comparrison. Should have my rebuilt gearbox and fingers crossed reworked TO4 back on for pod next month. Bring it on:)
Geff
sorry not about boost controllers but spec S is cheap works well on singels and twins . It is the same controller unit as Spec R but with only one solenoid so you can plumb in another solenoid and have a spec R one. Max uses a profec B controller which works well. keeping controller simple saves time and money don\'t know anyone running avc-r succesfully but please let me know anyone who is
It would make for a fun day out!
Any others up for a challenge?
Perhaps end of next month?
If all the UK rotary builders and tuners got together and did something like this, it would give them a good comparator, and no doubt advance the cause!
It\'s good to talk and exchange knowledge and views, especially amongst you guys!
Max
Awesome. Keep us posted guys, would make fascinating reading i\'m sure. Anyone particularly confident? :D
Hi Rich.... The reason i was funny earlier was that you automatically assumed i was telling him not to get the spec s because it was single solenoid...... I automatically thought that the Spec R was only called Dual....due to dual solenoid and i thought this fella might of thought he was getting a dual solenoid....I admit i am wrong and both Spec S and R are called Dual SBC (for some reason).
I actually got my controller off ebay.... so no i did\'nt get it cheaper than anyone else can...
Boost wise on the T04....i\'m not a 100% sure yet. I\'m probably like 90% of people on here in the fact that 2 months after driving the car i will change my plans yet again an change it....eg bigger turbo. I thought that for the sake of 30 quid i would buy the spec R just incase i go crazy in the future and need it to run more than 1.2 bar....who knows, why limit yourself for 30 quid. That was my opinion.
Yes the spec S does work well on the twins and singles, i have fitted a few for freinds who are very happy with them.
I was just a cheesed as you have had a pop at me a few times on this forum.....for no reason..... I assume you don\'t realise this so i hold nothing against you..... Big hugs and kiss\'s......well less of the kiss\'s i guess
:cool
Have gone for the Apexi, it was cheap, so will report when its on for refence.
Sorry Adam, nothing personal - and apologies too for confusion! how much u get the spec r for then all in out of interest?
Jetpilot - did you get the AVC-R, or the boost control kit for the Power FC perhaps?
Either way report back with results - is it for an FC?
Yeah, its for the FC and it was the AVC-R. Will report back, dont know how happy Tim will be @ RX Motors, i suppose it kinda lies with him to see what he thinks.
I haggled with the bloke on ebay and took the risk....paid him 210 all in. was all brand new and boxed..... So pretty cheap.
