Title: engine stutter
Post by: jimbo_GR on November 16, 2012, 01:09:29 AM
Hi guys looking for assistance

Symtoms:
From stationary when pulling off in 1st or reverse i get to start moving and the car judders, almost as if she\'s going to stall.... i give her more Rev\'s and she moves but the juddering continues until im on my way... the problem doesnt occur once im moving ie: in 2nd,3rd gears...

what ive done so far:
initial thought air in the clutch system. Bled it... no cure
Replaced Master and slave cylinders with new parts from MRC parts shop, bled again... now sytoms still there although not as bad.

Its not so bad now but i can still feel it... a few times when i have been out for a couple of hours on journeys if im heavy footed the gearbox will \'freeze\'... by this i mean the gearbox wont let me select any gear... i roll to a stop and im stuck for like, 15/20 mins until it lets me back in again...
i have changed gearbox oil to find its like new, sump plug had a small amount of metal filings on it but nothing that would raise suspicion..

Im just stuck now as i use my FD for charity work and being able to get back and fourth is a must...

Can anyone suggest anything i may have overlooked?
:Thumbsup!

I get a similar issue but its due the type of clutch i have and how i launch the clutch. I usually hold the revs just over 2 and release the clutch smoothly and thats fine. but if i have the revs low and release the clutch it jadders. but then again my clutch is very heavy and it has a harsh response. hope that helps.

i had a similar issue years ago, I was told that the judder was a result of years of built up "stick" on the flywheel... Few good slips and it seemed to resolve the issue for a small amount of time before it creeped back.. Although i ended up replacing the complete assembly due to other issues and remember the judder was there after gone. So could have been potentially dodgy/Worn finger springs on the pressure plate , or possibly the Pilot bearing that the gearbox aligns to as i changed that at the same time too.

Thanks i will try your suggestions.
Do you think the stutter and gearbox \'freeze\' could be related?

Have you got a short shifter fitted? mine is abit stiff but thats due to the short shifter that i have. which i will remove at some point to stock so it will be smoother for me.

Real sorry to say this sounds like a clutch assembly fault and the only way you will find out is to take the gear box out:(
