In that case, based on Saturdays conversations...
Its a Nissan 180RP-S13 Silvia with an SR20 engine, probably of the chuki series?

For Japanese S13s:
R = 3-door liftback with pop-up lights (180SX)
(no R) = 2-door coupe with fixed front lights (Silvia)
P = Post Jan \'91 car with SR20 engine (n/a or turbo)
(no P) = earlier car with CA18 engine (n/a or turbo)
The EU 200SX was an RS13, a 3-door with popups and the CA18 engine, as featured in red earlier in this thread. Although europe got the facelifted body style, they never got the SR20 in the S13 (I suspect this was due to Nissan Europe not wanting to push insurance premiums higher, as skyrocketing premiums were a hot topic at that time).
The car is a Nissan Silvia, hence no \'R\' in the chassis code. This particular one was a PS13 with the SR20DE, but I don\'t recall if the indicator lights betray that or not.
For Brett - this was the n/a Silvia I had when I lived in Japan, rather than the turbo 180 I imported after I returned to the UK.
Come on then Adam....

Mazda xedos?
Yep Xedos 6 I think, the 9\'s are much larger.
Yup, Brett wins, Xedos 6.
From Wikipedia:
Mazda Xedos was a range of executive cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_car) launched by Japanese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan) manufacturer Mazda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda) in 1992.[1]
The original model was the Mazda Xedos 6, which was similar in size and in engine to the BMW 3 Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series).
By 1994, there was a larger model called the Mazda Xedos 9, which was of a similar size to the BMW 5 Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_5_Series).

It isn\'t a Lamborghini, although it is a 60s car and it does have an Italian connection.
fiat zagota?

Fiat 8V Zagato is a good guess, but no.
Ok, I think I may have gone a bit too obscure with that one! That was a concept at the 1966 Tokyo motor show, the Daihatsu Sport. It was designed by Vignale (hence the Italian connection) in 1963 as a fastback; Daihatsu then built a notchback version themselves for the \'66 show.
I\'ll do another one; hopefully this will be a bit easier!

Quite correct well done. Well, should be OSCA 1600GT Zagato as there were different coachbuilders for them but as I\'m all heart it\'s close enough. It couldn\'t be called a Maserati even though it was made by the Maserati brothers as they sold the rights to build cars under their name in 1937 and started up the OSCA company to build cars, simples eh:wave
A lot of people think they were part of Fiat but in fact it was the other way around. Fiat used the Osca engine design in their cars and in return made engines under licence and gave them back to OSCA.

Love the Lister Storm, Wonder what it would have been like with a Twin Turbo 20b :mmmm
Yeah, probably a similar size and weight to a Cosmo so would have worked well with a 20b turbo too. That said, the Jag V12 wasn\'t too shabby - although the XK13 was still its finest hour.

Sorry not to have confirmed sooner, Spartacus was of course absolutely right with the Panther Solo :-)
Thats bugging me.... I know that... I just can\'t think of it right now... arggh! :o
Agreed, the tail light was a bit mean...I thought the New York plate might help but is a front view more familiar? You\'ve seen it before...you really have! ;)
Clues?
An international co-production; America Germany and France were all involved in creating this one off that saw regular use on the road with its designer.
Has this killed the game for everybody? If it has, ignore the above, somebody start it again and I\'ll stay out of it.
Could have been worse...might have been the limited production Volvo sports car made out of the parts bin at Wolseley! :spank
I know this car.... Give us another clue guv?
Maybe offer a couple of clues?
I\'m thinking Opel GT, although it\'s not quite right.. maybe the concept that became the Opel GT?
The who + the what will take you to the answer.
Who:
A Frenchman with an Austrian father who made it big in America. Designer of landmark cars including the Hillman Minx (sic) and several from South Bend, Indiana where he had strong ties. There\'s even an Italian connection too - in the \'forward\' name of one of his most famous designs for those folks.
What:
Opel is not right but I see where you were coming from. The German connection is under the skin...it is the clothes that are French which may be why it has indicators. (Easy from there?)
Type his surname and the car marque - Google will show you a picture.
You could also find him by way of the Pennsylvania Railroad, smoking a Lucky Strike, sipping a coke dispensed from the Electrolux fridge aboard Air Force One...when you know \'who\' you\'ll understand why!
Raymond Lowy, I knew it!
Think that was probably too many clues there though! :)
Anyway - BMW 507, I knew I\'d seen it recently - it was on a Discovery Turbo a few months back... I kept on thinking Auto Union!
Forgotten fibreglass has quite a nice write up:

German. A clue is that the company’s first car had a striking resemblance to a classic American/British design from the 60s.

Nope and Nope. Another clue is that the early cars seem to have link with submarines.

A Bristol Beaufighter ? :2Rolleyes
No but the thinking is sound. A similar mix of US/UK elements from a company with an older name in car manufacturing than Bristol.
Some sort of Modern Jensen?
Why i´m thinking Jaquar...? :)
I know that i have seen that rearlight somewere, and i remember that i hated it... :)
Not a Jaguar and not a Jensen.
This name is older than both of those but the last car to carry it before this one was made in 1948.
Additional clue? -
I\'m sorry chaps - I really thought you\'d get this quickly. It\'s still in production (I think). After going into liquidation in the mid thirties, the name was revived in 1946 but died again two years and 17 cars later, reappearing in the early 2000\'s attached to this front engined coupe with a V8 engine and claimed top speed potential of +200mph.
I\'m beginning to feel like that small boy in the Norwich Union advert...\'I\'m not helping much am I\' :o

should be easy enough
I\'m so glad that nobody else knows and I\'m not the only one whose definition of \'easy\' is more personal than general. :Laugh
It looks oddly familiar and there can\'t be that many double bubble back window treatments out there. Obviously modern, for no really good reason other than to break the silence, I\'ll hazard a guess it is something I can\'t name from TVR.
Assuming that\'s wrong Ad4m - any chance of a clue?
Looks small - like a 2 seater with double bubbles - is it some new Lotus ?
I want to say Zagato something, just because of the double-bubble roof.
Looks a bit like that electric car that was being tarted around in the front of Harrods last year... Fisker Karma?
I seem to recognise this from around 2003-2005. Can\'t put my finger on the name.
Blasted Memory...
It\'s British... I think.
Trident Iceni?
A long shot - the lights look wrong but the centre span between the bubbles looks right and since the company\'s had more lives than the average cat - the parts bin probably changes on a weekly basis! Maybe one of the second (3rd or 4th!) wave prototypes they showed at Goodwood a few years back?
Quick...there\'s a straw...clutch it!
Indeed it is!
I\'m glad that\'s over...:rollin
Another modern, in the hope someone gets it quickly.
Almost convincing from this angle...but wait till you see the 3/4 view
That\'s got a lot of TVR about it in the proportions... not a clue on this one so far for me!
Looks reminiscent of a Jag, but it could be one of those smaller supercar vendors - Ascari, Noble ?
Not TVR, Jaguar, Ascari or Noble. It\'s an Italian \'boutique\' manufacturer. The current one is much better but this was from 2009; part of a planned limited edition of five.
Well... I looked at a Venturi Fetish but it\'s got the wrong headlights.. :s
Ooooh. Found it, that is beautiful! :god
There is a hint of RX8 and new Mazda6 in there!

Kodiak has it right...and the floor!
But for my money it\'s still fugly from the side. The glass does not look like it belongs tucked up above that high waist. Still, just me obviously!:rollin
If the second pic was your go Kodiak.
Cheetah?
Correct Jinx.
Damn that was fast.
EDIT: No really... The pic was awful! The Angle doesn\'t show the most distinctive features of the car (sitting on the diff for instance), no badge was shown... How, by the power of Greyskull, did you guess that?
Because I (like you?) had a model of one as a kid! They fetch fantastic money in the US but are not well known here...except possibly by boys who resist growing up!
I think the fact that everything I once dreamed of owning is now the preserve of city boys or lottery winners, has changed the old car scene for the worse. Time was when a knackered old race car was just a knackered old race car not an instant investment opportunity. Of course back then, if you bought one it would still have been knackered...but it would have been your knackered old race car! :evillaugh
And now for something completely different, although like the Cheetah it is a child of the sixties... Another foreigner, another forgotten make swallowed by another name...one that is everywhere you look these days.
Asa 1000 Gt?
You\'re back...excellent!
Technically you\'re wrong...there\'s no wing vent...but I bet these two are near identical from this angle. Asa such a knowing \'guess\' too because Italian ideas do sometimes wind up in photocopiers and who\'s to say how many good ones Bertone had in an average year.
You\'re travelling in absolutely the right area...wrong country. Think about the name \'that is everywhere\' and you\'ll be there.

Ford Cortina Mk3?
Celica TA22....

I have to say mk1 Celica too... :)
Well done Brett :)
OK ladies and gentlemen - lets see what you make of this! :mmmm
Is it a hearse?
Nope!
:Giggle
Chrysler Valiant
Nice try, but nope! :D
Chevy Stationwagon?
Again, nope!

You haven\'t seen half the cars int his thread so I don\'t count that as an official clue :Hammer
LMAO... Ok, Ok! :p
This particular example was built in 1969... estate versions are in single figures, saloon variants exceeded 20,000 produced.
I was quessin hearse too... :) Though one. Shapes are from american built, but... AMC?
It\'s not American - wrong side of the Atlantic :)
Rover P6 Estate.
Nearer, in the right country now, but not right!
One of those Morris things, the minor estate or something?
Nope - slightly more upmarket than that! (And that should have totally given the game away now!)
Rolls Royce silver shadow estate
A Wolsey ?
We have a winner! Mr Spartacus is correct :)
Right, try this one on for size.(http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/rhdv8/ha-crop_zps31be3582.jpg)
After a couple of looks I\'m unsure if thats the front or the back...
But as this isn\'t QI and obvious guesses aren\'t penalised.
C3 Corvette?
I´m thinking Italian... just dont remember that name... :)
It\'s the front if that helps.
No not a corvette
It so looks like this

Prof, well done; wow, that was a sneaky one, if correct (and it looks spot on!) :god

IS it a BMW CSI 750 or 780 - can never remember the numbers...
Nooo... Only the 8 Series had pop-ups didn\'t it?
(and the M1)
I stuck it up as a complete picture because it looks so much like a Ferrari 400, but your all much too clever to get caught out that easily:D
Clive I\'m guessing I was right then?(http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa293/rhdv8/bitter-sc-coupe-03_zps59606dcc.jpg)

I\'ll go then - just give me 2 ticks to photoshop something ;)
:Giggle
Here you go:
(bit risky doing a front on shot)
Alfa Montreal?
Cross between a Lancia gamma coupe and a Monteverdi 375.
Which makes it a Maserati kyalami.

Nope, same sort of period and same sort of maker made the erm same sort of car:yes
Both used a V8 but this one wasn\'t as fancy as the Maserati unit.
Wow, if you look the grills on the wing and the body swage line is the same on the Kyalami
But because of it you gave me enough clues
Here you go a more manly version of the De Tomaso Longchamp
Here you go, acknowledged as one of, if not the most beautiful spyder ever created

Well I\'d guess it\'s a Ferrari and the colour looks very giallo fly (Ferrari yellow)
But which one?
For a first guess I\'d say a 275 GTS, 2nd guess would be a California spyder and 3rd and final would be a 330 GTS:2Rolleyes.
Scratch all that it\'s a Maserati Ghibli spyder now I notice the small section of yellow hood cover.
We have a Winner

Completely wrong guess...!
Ferrari 412?
Looks like some kind of 70\'s muscle car or possibly an Aston as some of those looked similar...
There aren\'t too many cars with angled up exhausts in the centre...
Could be a Pantera, but its a weird colour for one of those?
EDIT: I\'m going with Pantera.
Brett you are warm with your Ferrari 412 guess but colder with Pantera.
Prof has the era right but not an Aston.
Colour wise, it\'s typical-ish for this make and size of car.

De Tomaso?!
Nope......think a few clues in order.....british.......and only 1 ever made because the company folded shortly afterwards.....body wont rust either !
Has the company ever come back since it folded?
Looks kinda Piper GT but not as there are a lot more than 1 of those.
Company long gone......and not a piper Gt.
Welsh origins.....and an austin engine.....cars were overly expensive for the time and vat sealed the makers fate.
Gilbern T11? Isn\'t Google wonderful :Laugh
^^I\'d never have got that one without the clues :o
How about this one?

Thanks boosted, but it\'s more down to my search skills than knowledge - I\'d never heard of Gilbern! Fascinating reading about the history of the company though, so thanks for digging that one up :Thumbs-up

Is it the Argyll Turbo GT?!
Just google searches it, and yes it is! :)
Argyll Turbo - correct, I was expecting to have to give a few clues, so well done sir, over to you!
Really long wheelbase, mid-engine 70\'s "supercar" that never made it, costing more than a Porsche 911 at the time
It was purely the wheel and the roofline that gave it away for me. Remember seeing one in a book when I was younger and it\'s remained in my memory ever since apparently! I\'ll put one up as soon as I find a worthy contender! Also, better check its not something that has already been put up!

Initially thought it was a Mini Marcos... but no.
Rear window seems european but the rear bumper (especially the tail light) looks very classic Americana.
Stumped. Very Stumped
Looking at a Mini Marcos/Ford Murcury/Kharman Ghia-esque thing... Not a clue :Thumbsup!
Is that one of those Citroen or Peugeot streamliners...
but then wire spokeys suggests a 1960\'s vintage
Nope to all guesses so far... I\'ll give you a tip. It\'s European.
Another clue... It was raced by a famous British racing driver in Le Mans. This particular car I\'ve put the photo up of is of a redesigned car by a British designer. The model this car was based on we\'re produced in the late 50s and less than a dozen were made.
Ferrari 250GT SWB

I though the Lister\'s had a less bulbous back end

here you go ............
Looks 1930\'s, maybe an ERA racing car (if the flag is a clue and not a false trail!), but the exhaust is more modern? Thinking maybe some modern replica on a 1930\'s race car....or could be wildly off-beam :D
Not an ERA car, not a replica :)
Napier Railton.
Quote from: Will66;850149Napier Railton.
:yes :yes winner!
:Hammer I knew I\'d seen the car somewhere - Brooklands of course!
The car that flies :Laugh
Yeah.... sod that! :Giggle
Next!:wiggle
Here you go, not a concept but a real production car and I used to own one, now apparently super rare
First clue is that this is the front with the bonnet up
Did it come in yellow?
Is it a corvair?
No, but correct country and has a V8
Chrysler 300C?
Looks a little like the Dodge Charger, but not quite the same......
2nd thoughts, also looks a bit like the Chevvy Impala or Caprice?
Quote from: re japi;850537Chrysler 300C?
Very very close, yes it\'s Mopar
Couple of more goes and I will put you out of your misery
Gets boring if it all goes on too long
Plymouth Fury?
Quote from: Kevint;850545Plymouth Fury?
We have a winner (sorry wrong thread :Giggle)
Yes its a Plymouth Sport Fury, my one was identical in white with a black vinal roof and the same condition as the one in the picture
The picture belies that the thing was the size of a house!
Damn, i was thinking of Fury. :/ Yes, its a massive boat. Amerivan 60´ sport coupes were massive :)
Something a little different
What a...? :)

Here\'s the next one (sorry for the delay)
Triumph Stag? Poss a Jag? :P
Daimler Dart?
not any of those :driving
Is it a TR6?
Aston martin DB5? No real reason for thinking that as most 60s cars had chrome bumpers. Got an MGB GT outside with them.
The man is right, its a 1976 Triumph TR6 and here is the very car
Quote from: Spartacus;851543Is it a TR6?
My bad - sorry I didn\'t respond yesterdday - yes It\'s the wonderful Triumph TR6 - not just motorbikes and Bras :Laugh
Clive - do you know the owner ?

I\'m Brian and so\'s my wife!
Isn\'t it Clive now ?
Ah - Sparticle must say whether he was right or not - doh - my bad
It was def a Jensen Healey, great car if you could keep an engine that held water
Try this one, bang up to date.
Mazda 6 race car :Talking1:mmmm
Yep, the picture is one of the Mazda 6 diesel race cars at Daytona this year
Reason for putting it up is that it is actualy the RX-8 chassis under the body, there\'s a big feature on the car in Race Tech this month
My copy hasn\'t arrived :(
Ok, here we go - something a little different and fairly low volume. :wave
Thrust SSC
Quote from: Brett;851822My copy hasn\'t arrived :(
On a tangent off this - is the magazine with your car featured out yet Brett ?
Correct, Thrust SSC! :wave
And my car is in Practical Performance Car which is out on the 28th, available from all good Newsagents :Giggle
PS Clive was right with the jensen Healey:Snoring
And now for something completely different....

Quote from: Brett;851891Landrover? :)
Nope :) Not a Landy
Pinafarina 250GT?
No, not a 250GT
2 week old Lancia?
I think we need a little help with this one:eek:,
I would say 1950\'s possibly a Plymouth De Soto and its not a fiberglass car :Giggles
1970\'s-ish Kharman Ghia?
ok some clues - it\'s not a British car, nor Italian.
I don\'t want to give too much away - but it\'s quite old - 50\'s is probably right. Sad to see such an important milestone car in such a state...
ok - 50"s is just too early - it was 1960 :)
Looks a bit like the first Wankel powered car.
EDIT: Developed by NSU that is
Quote from: Kodiak;851928Looks a bit like the first Wankel powered car.

Another clue:
The next model to follow this is still in production in a variant form today !!!
Is that pic the front end or the back end?
Quote from: Brett;851964Is that pic the front end or the back end?
Front :cheers
That\'s a front.
Quote from: Kodiak;851971That\'s a front.
Well strictly speaking that\'s the front nearside wing :), but it\'s the front half of the car you are looking at
Another clue
If it\'s an indication that the car is something edable then it got to be a Trabant, but it looks rusty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Quote from: clive;851993If it\'s an indication that the car is something edable then it got to be a Trabant, but it looks rusty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honda S600?

This was/is a very popular vehicle - should be no trouble for you lot! :Talking1
Cortina ?
Nope, wrong manufacturer and country...
Bringing this thread back... Is it a Fiat?
Nope, wrong country :)
First time on this thread....if its what I think it is it was a popular car round this part of the world and there are still a few around....the Subaru Brat pick-up?
You have it spot on! The full pic is at work though..
Cheers Brett...it was the bull bar that got me thinking in that direction.

Trident Clipper - in one of its early incarnations
Trident Clipper it is Jinx. Well done.
Over to you
This is unfair. You are showing cars that i have never heard! ;)
Come on Mr Jinx...
Too obvious probably...well it is once you know what it is (That\'s a clue)
Looks very much like the Allard Clipper?
Looks like an accident in the 2CV factory?
Quote from: Brett;853648Looks like an accident in the 2CV factory?
:Giggle:Giggle
No idea what that thing is, but it\'s one of the ugliest things I\'ve seen ;)
Did Noddy\'s car have a collision with a Reliant Robin?
Well done Ken D - only right in the circumstances - one Clipper for another!
I have a collection of ads from the fifties which invest small cars with additional scale. There\'s a Morris Minor advert on my office wall in which the parents clearly risk losing their two kids due to the cavernous interior but the Clipper\'s ad is just mental. Unlike other Allards this thing was tiny. Think about the size of a standard number plate then contrast it with the scale of the driver shown in the ad. LOL!
Thanks jinx.
Yes I recall my Dad collected a lot of 50\'s advertising stuff and I know exactly what you mean. Today of course we have grown use to capacious interiors even on what are relatively small cars - there again cars have grown somewhat in size - Fiat 500 is a case in point!
Here\'s the next one to think about:
Looks slightly Romanian?
Not from Romania Brett.
Is it a Wartberg ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;853747Is it a Wartberg ?
Yes, it is indeed a Wartburg - going to name the model?
Damn, i know that. Wargburg 353! Looks like 80´s model because it has black plastic bumbers :)
Quote from: re japi;853767Damn, i know that. Wargburg 353! Looks like 80´s model because it has black plastic bumbers :)
That\'ll do nicely - it is the Wartburg 353 from former East Germany. A production run of over 1 million cars in a 22 year period. And surprisingly good performance for a 3 cylinder 55 bhp engine.
Well GSB got us to Wartburg but you finished the job, so over to you re japi.
For some reason i cant insert image... Please wait...
"This BMP image has the incorrect file extension." ???
Valid file extensions are doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png txt zip
Can you try as a jpeg? Something like Paint will allow you to save a bmp as a jpeg.
Cheers
Kevin
bmp images generally have large file sizes as they are not "compressed", so the forum software won\'t allow them (they take up too much storage). Can you convert to the common jpg format? You could try this free online convertor if you are not sure how to do it;

:Laugh \'morning kevin; yep, paint should do it too :)

Ok, here it is! Thanks for advices :) Im not good at computers. I usually repearthem with a fist... ;)
Toyota Crown?
I think its Russian but cant think of any names
Would that name be Volga Gaz by any chance?
And we have a winner! :) Jinx, your turn.
For some reason i downsized that picture alot. It didt want to go smaller, and that was only option. :)
Inspired choice re japi! I confess the answer only clicked after Clive\'s \'russian\' prompt so, to advertise the identity of the next one a little bit...
Unexciting and quietly desperate American car maker, WLTM English sportsman with GSOH and continental carrosserie connections, for days out and image boosts.
Good morning....looks like a Nash Healey?
Correct....what will you have - kewpie doll or cigar? I should warn you that we are temporarily out of stock of both
Quote from: jinx;853993Correct....what will you have - kewpie doll or cigar? I should warn you that we are temporarily out of stock of both
Thanks Jinx - nice challenge. As for the prize I\'ll just take the money thanks!! Mind you with the era of that car I should say "open the box"!
Here\'s something a little newer.....
Matra Simca Bagheera ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854015Matra Simca Bagheera ?
Well that must be the shorted live challenge! Yes it is the Bagheera...well done. Over to you!
I will Post up a Picture later today once I worked it out :)
Oh by the way,I have a 1:24 scale Model of a Bagheera :evillaugh
That was a fast one!
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854020Oh by the way,I have a 1:24 scale Model of a Bagheera :evillaugh
Any other cars you have models of - just so I know which ones to avoid:)
@Ken : I have about 200+ Cars in my collection :Giggle
How about this then....... it should be quite easy to some on here :yes
I was just going to sign out.....Hillman Hunter GLS?
QuoteI have about 200+ Cars in my collection
Mmm, just what I didn\'t want to hear!
You just too good at this Ken :Giggle
Ok over to you then :2Rolleyes
Thanks Nigel...these are the kind of cars I remember as a kid.
I learnt to drive in my dads.....
Austin 1300
Austin 1100, lol
Quote from: Will66;854044Austin 1300
Not an Austin 1300.
QuoteAustin 1100, lol
Not that either!
(that was my first car - well, the Morris badged version)
Austin 1800 ?
or
Austin Maxi ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854052Austin 1800 ?
or
Austin Maxi ?
Near enough with your first guess...it\'s the Morris 1800.
(can\'t imagine driving a car of that size/weight today without power steering - still it was good for building up the arm muscles and at the time I knew no better!)
Well done and back to you!
I remember going in one of these when I was a kid, except it was also Brand New back then :rollin
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854057I remember going in one of these when I was a kid, except it was also Brand New back then
I was 12 I think when Dad got the 1800 (so 1970)...stayed in the family until the mid 80\'s at which point the rust was doing its job!
Is yours a Chrysler 2 litre? Or perhaps the 1.8?
Its the 180 in the Photo Ken,so I give it to you :yes
The one I went in was a 2 litre in Dark Gold Metallic :Giggle
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854064Its the 180 in the Photo Ken,so I give it to you :yes

Thanks Nigel - not seen one of those on the road for many years. Wonder how many are still around?
Here\'s my next offering....
Is it a Simca 1100 or another engine size ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854098Is it a Simca 1100 or another engine size ?
Simca 1100 will do just fine. Back to you (again).
Are we the only 2 playing this game :evillaugh
Ok how about this then :)
QuoteAre we the only 2 playing this game
Looks very much that way :)
Your engine looks like it belongs in one of these - the NSU RO.80:
You are just too good Ken :evillaugh
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854107You are just too good Ken :evillaugh
Thanks - I may not have any car models but I do have a few books that help....anyway you\'re not doing so bad yourself :).
Time for me to hit the hay now, so here is my last offering of the day:
Is it a Lancer EVO ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854111Is it a Lancer EVO ?
I just had to look in one more time! No, not an EVO. Night.....
Is it a Honda Intera ? (not spellt right)
Now drawn a blank :( & off to Bed :WaveBye
Something Suzuki like about that?
Morning all...not a Honda or Suzuki...in fact not from Japan.
European manufacturer.
Morning all :D
Is it a Mercedes 190 ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854125Morning all :D
Is it a Mercedes 190 ?
Afternoon Nigel...not a Merc....
Want to see a bit more....?
Is it a Audi Quattro Coupe ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854155Is it a Audi Quattro Coupe ?
Nope!
Here\'s a little more of the car.....
Sorry drawn a blank :( ,but I seen that fender before, but can\'t put my finger on it :(
A VW Golf ?
Seat Leon?
seat ibiza MkI ?
Not a Seat or a VW.
Perhaps a little assistance....the car manufacturer is very well known, as is this particular model name. However this is an updated version that was not offered in the UK.
Sorry I give up :(
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854183Sorry I give up :(
Can\'t have that - here\'s the uncropped version.....
Still none the wiser :(
I am going to kick myself,aren\'t I :Laugh
Is it a Renault ?
Is it a Lada ?
QuoteI am going to kick myself,aren\'t I
Quite possibly, although its not particularly recognisable (unless you happen to know it) from a side view. The front would give it away :).
Not a Lada or a Renault.
The original version (which you certainly will know) came out in the late 70\'s. There was also a much sought after version which is probably still regarded as an excellent performance car, even by todays standards. Another version used to feature a lot on the TV:)
Calling it a night now.:Snoring:Snoring
Is it a Lancia Delta 3dr Hatchback :)
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854193Is it a Lancia Delta 3dr Hatchback
Good enough Nigel....it\'s the suped up version...the Delta HPE 2.0HF. Needless to say its the 2nd generation model that was not marketed in the UK.
Got there in the end :Thumbsup!....over to you
I suddenly thought of the Lancia Delta & so went searching :Laugh
That was hard one :)
Quote from: re japi;854208That was hard one :)
I found myself following a French plated one a few months ago - until then I hadn\'t realised there was a 2nd generation model:)
Ok here goes, try this one :)
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854218Ok here goes, try this one :)
I\'ve been looking at the car in the background more than the subject. But, I think its given me the answer.....is it a Daf 66 (or Volvo 66)?
Now I look at it of course it can\'t be the Volvo version.
Its not the Volvo but yes its the Daf 66 :)
Over to you Ken.......................
Thanks Nigel....
Here\'s my second car....well the model anyway!
Should go quickly I suspect.
Lancia HPE or Coupe Version
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;854268Lancia HPE or Coupe Version
In this case it was the Coupe version, but they both look the same in that view. Lovely car despite the inevitable rust eating away at it!:)
Your turn!
I always liked the HPE Version :cool
Ok something easy :Laugh
Not sure about the "easy" bit....wire mesh headlight protectors....offroader/4WD maybe?
Its not 4WD or Offroader :)
Getting distracted by those wire mesh protectors...:(. Were they standard fitment for this car?
I know that gril! Just dont remember...
Morning....I have just noticed something on the radiator grille. See my highlighted picture below. Looks like the start of a diagonal....would that make this a Volvo? Follows on quite well from Daf:)

Ok this is the next one, fairly easy from what some of us are like, there is enough info for the sharp eye\'d to work out the make, and nearly enough to work out the exact model, but not quite enough without guessing. good luck...

Sorry - I guess and then forget to check back!
The design is so well known, this is easier than it looks at first glance, plus it includes a handy link to both the last one and the last one I did.

Triumph Dolomite - the original version?
Well done Ken...a winner...but I\'ll put you down as a non-smoker as you weren\'t tempted by the additional virtual cigar!
In case anyone was still puzzling: If joined up, the other dots linked the Triumph running gear under the skin of Ken\'s Bond Equipe with Donald Healey, the lead engineer at Triumph on the Dolomite project - fifteen or so years before he put his name to that badge engineered Nash in an Italian suit that was my last!
PS It looks better as a tourer (most things do!) but the picture was handy
Very nice :)

Nice challenge.
Another big radiator grille to consider.
A Chrysler Imperial? (36-38?)
I had three strong candidates straight off - all of them wrong so it was down to Google this time I\'m afraid. Were you a fan already or find it looking for waterfall grilles LOL?
QuoteA Chrysler Imperial? (36-38?)
That will do...the Chrysler Airflow Imperial from 1937.
QuoteI had three strong candidates straight off - all of them wrong so it was down to Google this time I\'m afraid. Were you a fan already or find it looking for waterfall grilles LOL?
Intrigued....what were your other candidates? Not a big fan, but I figured one good turn etc....:)
Nice find anyway Ken - a confusing time at Chrysler! All those slope fronted Airflows, Imperials with and without the split grille and/or different headlight designs allegedly from the same year - then by 39 everything has changed and they are off with their two step front end that is pretty much the defining look of the period. They seemed to switched the grille design from horizontal to vertical from model to model, year to year...Dammit...a googler\'s nightmare!
First thought we might still be at home with one of those \'racy\' post war, Abbot Hillmans. Once noticed though, that light detailing was far too fancy - suggesting France or America. A Fiat in a fancy French clothes? No...I went for the US - wanting it to be a Hudson or maybe a Zephyr - special or otherwise but...
Enough...No more running boards I promise (Only KenD seems to get them!) Here is something I always wanted but never got to own…and now probably never will!
That list is so long it\'s no clue at all, I\'ll add more if it stalls.

QuoteOld Porsche, before 911. Dont remember what was it called...
That would be the Porsche 356...in this case the 1600 Coupe I think?
Jinx, yes the number of style changes at Chrysler in those few years was amazing, certainly by todays standards. Still it certainly must have provided for some variety on the roads then!
QuoteFirst thought we might still be at home with one of those \'racy\' post war, Abbot Hillmans. Once noticed though, that light detailing was far too fancy - suggesting France or America. Ah, a nice selection....will see if I can oblige in future challenges! I recall an acquaintance of mine in the US used to own a classic Hudson Commodore. He is now sadly departed, but I wonder what happened to the car?
A keen eyed call re japi. It certainly looks like a 356 and for a very good reason....but when you see beyond the doors, they are not so much alike. I\'m sorry to say you have fallen into a fiendish \'Name that car\' image cropping trap. :)
Hi Ken. Got distracted - it took me so long to type that answer to re jap, yours overlapped! You\'ve got the trap out of the way plus the really big clue... and once again there is an element of looking back to earlier answers...

That got me thinking....and a quick search revealed...the Frazer-Nash Continental. I think that "fits the bill"?
Ken, yes that i was thinking. And that was a good trap. Good one Jinx :)
Winner....For lots of reasons (none of them in the least bit scientific) this, rather than a Ford Capri, is the car I always promised myself more than any other. AFN imported Porsche and BMW - they looted a 956 for its doors and glass then nipped off to Williams and Pritchard for the rest. The Continental was going to be the next big thing after the successful Sebring and Mille Miglia models but, along with its BMW V8, it got killed off by world events. Almost stillborn - despite the hopeful announcement and massive press coverage it was little more than a proptoype with a scrap of carpet - luvverly. If I ever win the lottery...
I think this is the last of two (three?) made - I so badly wanted the green one used in all the black and white photo shoots! It is mercifully owned by someone who drives it rather than watching its value increase in a temperature controlled cocoon. It was a surprise to get so excited when I tripped over it parked casually at the back of the old paddock at Silverstone in 2011 but it was a proper boyhood dream and a genuine \'hen\'s tooth\' so maybe I could be forgiven. The sun was shining, my anorak was in the car and I don\'t think anybody noticed....till now.
Ball in your court Ken
Excellent taste jinx. Yes a very impressive car indeed. Keep doing the lottery - you never know. Incidentally I did own a Capri 2.0 GT, Mk1 for a while! As for my dream machine...well I\'ll save it for a future challenge. In the meantime my next one is another "keep it in the family" job. Back to you jinx.
Too easy to be any sort of mystery but following Ken\'s theme...and back on solid ground...here\'s an, admittedly slightly less distinguished, escapee from my family\'s archives. Undistinguished perhaps but, as the first car with proper doors my brother ever owned, it had a certain novelty value in our house.
Ken: My Dad was offered a blower Bentley for less than £50 just after WW2. He was already \'extending\' his petrol coupons with paraffin, leaving ever larger clouds of blue smoke behind him as each month progressed, so felt the blower would be both too conspicuous and juicy. Every now and again he still closes his study door and...screams.
Well if its what I believe it to be its not bad for a first car (with doors that is!)...a Gilbern Invader MkIII?
£50 just after WW2....well that doesn\'t sound much, but bring that forward to today and its a good sum of money...even so a Bentley would probably have given a healthy return! My Dad sold the Lagonda in 1970 for a coupe of hundred....but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Ya, its a AC. But those rims tels me that it is Ace. :)
Tru dat... I wouldnt of thought those rims would of gone on a cobra... Ah well.
I discounted an AC Ace which I thought it was straight off because of the strange swage line around the wheel arch that I could not find in any pictures,
Have you got the whole picture ?
Like Clive I discounted the Ace simply because of those flaired wheel arches...but now I look I see there were indeed some Ace\'s that had them. Found this on a quick search...not quite the same...but close

Here it is. I found it Google search Cobra, but im sure that ist Ace...
When I looked at the ace I noticed a feature line around the side lights. Around the area you\'d fit canards.
There doesn\'t appear to be that on this car but the rear arches seem too small and there\'s no bonnet scoop.
Interesting car :Thumbsup!
Shame we can\'t find the full story for it on the internet

Im useless at this game.
Me too. :) I thought i was good recognizing cars. Few guys here knows everything :)
Hmmm.....looks a bit merc like?
It does look like a Merc, but it ain\'t. Probably the right era for the Merc you\'re thinking of but rarer.
There\'s something very Wiesmann about it too... (although I\'m guessing the Era is actually \'50s?)
Mmm, nothing springs to mind on this one. There are a few cars that I\'ve found with that kind of exhaust set up, but none that match.
Other than the era, if I can ask a couple of questions....are we talking a rare car as in make or is it the model that\'s rare? And is this a standard arrangement or modified?
It\'s a Rare Model of a 1950s manufacturer that is probably something you\'ll not see everyday but isn\'t a rare manufacturer.
Definitely doing some head scratching here....was this a road going car or limited to the race track? I ask as those exhausts are pretty unusual for the 50\'s and would not have been legal in some countries.
I went with a hunch and started looking up Le Mans races. Would it be the Aston Martin DBR2?
KenD wins.
It\'s the Rizk replica, the stub exhausts are because it has an E Type motor rather than an Aston Martin one.
Thanks Will. Some nice shots on the net of this unique car. My favourite is this one:

I guess this would be the Warwick GT in light of your clue jinx, although as you imply from this angle it could be the Peerless GT Coupe. Eventually developed into something probably more well known:)
Not sure about the lights...Aston Martin DB4 springs to mind....but not the obvious car to take them from?
Part Number, part number Ken? Sorry, no extra points for you!! :rollin A win with the Peerless (Warwick) GT though, later reborn as something else entirely. A carefully lit studio shot makes it look quite elegant; a shame that real life is less kind. Mind you, the same could be said about me.
I must stop playing this game, I\'m getting all misty eyed about an age when real men wore overalls and flat caps, rode a Raleigh \'All Steel Bicycle\' to work and had a Woodbine in the corner of their mouth or no further away than behind their ear. Those days when \'holiday\' meant reading the \'Sporting Life\' aboard a sternly upholstered Bedford OB coach en route to Butlins where the week would pass under lead grey skies (colour photos being for the gentry), among dreams of one day owning a Ford Anglia.
Have all the pigeons gone? Someone pass me a whippet, I\'m feeling a mite peckish.

I\'m sure the same could be said about a lot of us! Other readers please do not take offence:Laugh.
Thinking of overalls I recall my elder brother in the mid 60\'s slowly putting together a Berkeley in our garage. And I remember going on holidays with family friends in a Bedford Dormobile Mk1. Not sure there was any Woodbines though:)
Those were the days, mainly British built cars on the roads...wonder how many on this forum can say they own a British made car today....I can\'t!
Right enough of that, stand-by for the next one.
Back to the family car theme now....said elder brother got himself one of these:
That looks like a Reliant Scimitar...the early coupe not the GTE sportshatch? I don\'t remember them being that comfy in the back but then realised the theme was \'family\' cars not \'family cars\'!
If I\'m right can re japi put up something obscure from the tundra?
Re japi - in case of interest:- the number of small UK car companies were partly a product of:
1. Poor supply of the home market after the war because manufacturer\'s steel quotas (everything was rationed) depended on the volume of their exports.
2. As a result of \'1\', the arrival of glass fibre materials for bodywork in the 1950\'s led to an explosion of small firms offering replacement clothes for pre-war Austin 7 and Ford 8 chassis - the birth of the UK specials and kit car industry where brands like Rochdale began. This in turn kick-started post war motorsport which added more names to the list.
3. Lastly, the tax system meant, with a little work bolting sub assemblies together, buyers could dodge punitive \'new car\' tax rates. Small makers could keep their costs and the price of a new sports car down to push sales up to a viable level - sometimes very low. Several (like Lotus) offered a "buyer assembled" option right into the sixties.
If not interested ignore this explanation and post something none of us have heard of!:Laugh

I probably would have done but when jinx first suggested inviting you to post something from the tundra I thought I would take an advance look of cars from the region - safe to say that what you posted didn\'t fall into that category:).
Now the chances are you won\'t have seen one of these - but there again...?
Nothing against Finland\'s engineers or workforce but you do wonder how many Boxster customers know their new car was not built in Germany! Like those BMW owners who discover their new 6 or 7 series was made in Korea on the track next to the Kia something or other!
Could be worse I suppose - Years ago a friend\'s father was insanely proud of his new 420G Jaguar. It was parked in front of his factory when the lunchtime football went underneath it. He watched one of his employees reach under his pride and joy to retrieve the ball and when he reappeared he looked up to the office window...
"Did you know your car has \'Export Reject\' stickers all over it underneath boss?"
Those were days when the appropriately named Lofty England, Jaguar\'s customer relations manager, told buyers complaining about rust or paint defects that they had only bought the engine and gearbox - Jaguar just gave them the rest to take it away in.
And no, I don\'t have a clue what that is Ken :D
Quotebut you do wonder how many Boxster customers know their new car was not built in Germany! Like those BMW owners who discover their new 6 or 7 series was made in Korea on the track next to the Kia something or other!
A good point jinx. Whereas we might expect it with some manufacturers I suspect most owners of German cars would have expected their piece of precision engineering made by the worlds finest engineers to have been produced in Germany. Even Mercedes allows Mexico not only to produce its range of cars, but also to use locally produced parts - a Mexican Merc...mmm, not sure about that!

In Coventry they had the Rover parts bin and created poetry. The people behind the car shown here, started with a clean sheet, probably more money than sense and the use of a once famous name. They produced this. :xconfused
I doubt you need them but I couldn\'t give you any clues anyway because I can\'t imagine what they were thinking of.

I\'d say Spyker but from memory the lights are wrong...
Isn\'t this an open hybrid sports car or something odd....if it\'s what I think it is (trouble is I can\'t remember the name!) it had a BMW engine....??
Kodiak - No not a Spyker (another famous name poorly served of late) To be fair there though was an alternative rear light treatment on later versions of this item. Amazingly there were enough customers with ludicrously fat wallets and no taste to make the idea of a production run a reality. Depends on which one you\'re thinking of! One particular theme is probably more associated with it\'s predecessor :).
Sorry - been busy with work... but I will return! :Giggle
C\'mon jinx, are you going to name it? :D
Had three of these in varying Zephyr and Zodiac MK4 guises, plus two MK11\'s and two MK 3\'s with the last being a rare Zodiac Executive with floor change and single front seats , they made excellent tow cars :Thumbsup!

This particular one is the Zephyr Mk IV:Thumbsup!
As for the theme tune...well one starred in Auf Wiedersehen Pet and the latter episodes of Z-cars.
Rare sight on the roads today. I remember having a Dinky model of the Zodiac or was it the Executive?
Over to you Clive.
I still got my Diecast Model of the Ford Zodiac in Bronze Metallic :yes it\'s worth about £20 approx
In the absence of another challenge....
There is a reason they are a rare sight... they were...what\'s the expression? ...Oh yes, bloody awful. :D
Now I have happy memories of a two tone grey Mk2 and a gloriously vulgar Mk3 Zodiac in bottle green with shiny alloys but not the Mk IV..with it\'s huge long bonnet with spare wheel stowed in there...because they could...and the lumpy running V4 or V6 engines - the 4 so underdeveloped and badly made, in hot climates it could prove difficult to turn off!
These things lifted an inside wheel on the first rumour of a corner and were known for dramatic handling that had strong men clenching their buttocks. Over the years Ford put anti-roll bars, radial tyres and power steering on the top models in order to try and imbue them with acceptable road manners. The poor folks in the Zephyrs just got ever lower geared steering to offset the confusing nose-heavy, front-light, driving experience.. which just made them feel even soggier. The body was a rust trap and there was enough of it to make a substantial pile. The seats were huge too but not any too comfortable unless you were one of those heavily built Essex lads who spent their days in a JCB!
They were, like all Fords, costed to a tenth of an old penny then built down to a price - and in this case it really showed. (For the incongruously named \'Executive\' variant it cost Ford as much to do a whole interior in leather as Rolls Royce spent on part of one door card.)
A disappointing swan song, the MkIV\'s were the last time Ford in Britain made a car on their own, their replacement was the Anglo-German Granada. Wrong to lay the blame at a single door but one of the MkIV\'s designers went on to father another British great...the Morris Marina.:2Confused
I\'m amazed to hear they made great tow cars; accelerating without any weight on the back was like driving a blunt fronted, woolly speedboat when that big flat bonnet pointed up at the sky! What were you towing Clive... marshmallows? :Laugh
Andrew, you have such a way with words :Laugh
I\'ll find another I owned tonight when the world calms down :Viking
Here\'s another two of my "tow" cars, both from the same stable but 11 years apart both should be easy which is why I have only shown a little :wiggle
Does it have a floor in those pictures? :Giggle
Quote from: Brett;856517Does it have a floor in those pictures? :Giggle
I would suggest that if either still exist they won\'t have any floors left in them anyway :Giggle
History - yes
Mystery - no.
Having said in the past to how you much preferred a Zephyr to a Mk II Jaguar (first picture), it is quite surprising to see you went on to an XJ6 (picture 2) for your tow barge. I take it the supply of £10 Zodiacs with expendable back axles had dried up?
Mind you, as that\'s a Leyland era XJ it was a brave choice - almost randomly fitted with parts from different suppliers on different sides of the car. I was once at a Jaguar parts counter when the customer in front of me was asked for the build date of his car. Knowing the actual date (not just the year or even month) was the only way they had of working out which of the more than a dozen different types of headlight bowl his car was likely to have been fitted with!
Jags.....Mark 2 and a XJ6 Series 2?
Edit...looks like jinx was there first!!
Very glad to see you back Ken, having been concerned that you either were, or were closely related to, the designer of the Mk IV Zephyr and had been left reeling at the vitriolic candour of my unsolicited and unkind recollections. Clive made it easy because he has mentioned before that no Jaguar he had owned ever showed any evidence of grace, space or pace. I suggested he might have paid more than £20 for one with an MOT but was withered by a single glance and never brought it up again.
Moving swiftly on...if that\'s ok...I have absolutely no personal connection with the subject of tonight\'s puzzle except to say I\'ve seen a few...but then again...too few to mention. It is another British bred sportscar no longer with us but, in a reversal of the usual story, this one died with a full order book coupled to a lack of interest from the manufacturer.
I was hoping this, my last for a while at least, would run for a little longer than the previous one but I somehow doubt it will. We need a few more of those obscure Latvian supercars from the late 90\'s, made for the affluent local \'industrialists\', to bring the mystery back. :Giggle
Look a bit Jensen Healey?
Jensen Healey was a good guess but, in a politically correct sense, something other than correct.
Thanks for the welcome back jinx. I have been around but just busy with work and (as you saw) I didn\'t look in quite quick enough on Clive\'s last one! Don\'t worry, I\'m no fan of the Zephyr/Zodiac Mk IV range and I think you described them reasonably accurately, admittedly I suspect, not entirely along the lines of Ford\'s sales pitch at the time:). I did have a Capri Mk1 at one time but I was young enough to appreciate its appearance as opposed to its somewhat dubious handling qualities - having said that I\'m sure it was a vast improvement of the aforementioned Fords!
Right, your challenge....a Unipower GT?
For all those lovers of the Zephyr MkIV
Here you go,
First was a Jaguar MKII 3.8 MOD, that I paid the princely sum of £80 at the age of 17 from a Bowater Scot director who took the car with him when he retired , still remember it cost me £75 to insure
Beautiful condition car, chauffeur driven all its life and at the time worth nothing (then) !, didn\'t go bad though as I was told it had the E-type engine in it.
Had a bizarre rear suspension set up with a panard rod that for some reason kept ripping itself out of the chassis till I beefed it up,
No idea why it tore itself out as this was a rot free car, maybe, just maybe I cornered a little too fast with it :driving
Couldn\'t find an identical XJ6 Daimler Jag, mine was a 3.6, green sand with a brown vinyl roof and green velor interior, sounds hideous but it was actually a gorgeous looking car, sold it after an offer I couldn\'t refuse :cool.
Hi Ken... Yes Unipower GT - now often referred to as a kit car but sold fully built. Amazingly they closed the factory doors after the first 75 with a bulging order book and deposits taken. The original partners having disagreed and split up, the remaining ones decided car production was just a distraction and pulled the plug.
Photos really don\'t do it justice and as (Mk IV Zephyr\'s aside!) it is easier to design a big car well, the Unipower was all the more impressive. This picture makes the roof look tall and the tail heavy but seen for real it was a very sleek little thing. Many sprouted enormous wheel arches to accommodate ever-wider rims for racing, which makes those original 10" alloys (Dunlops or Cosmics?) even rarer and just right!
Your ball.
I don\'t know why you don\'t like MkII\'s Clive....OK, apart from the Moss gearbox, heavy steering, indifferent standard brakes and [lest we forget] the rust. That said, I saw one parked among modern super cars outside a posh foreign hotel and it looked right at home. I would have taken it as my first choice. By chance I met the owner and he told me my opinion was shared by others because he\'d already turned down more than he paid for it at the auction he was on the way home from!
Quote from: jinx;856571I don\'t know why you don\'t like MkII\'s
Ahh, never said I didn\'t like it indeed I wish it was still in garage in the same as I bought it condition, like you say though, heavy steering, truck box and little to no brakes, plus horrible understeer leading into snap oversteer also used to make my back ache like mad on a journey , BUT huge charisma as did the series 2 Daimler at the time,
One Jag I wouldn\'t want again was the series 3 which was a badly put together tin can by comparison, made by an almost dead British Leyland it really should not have sported a Jag badge, they recon that one of the last was inspected as it came off the line and 170 snagging faults were found !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks jinx. I always wondered what would have happened had the GT been developed further. As you say it was proving itself to be in demand yet they closed the doors on it. Oh well....
Here is the next one:

Quote from: jinx;856644Aha...bonnet side vent and curved chrome.... that\'ll make it a Lea Francis 2.5?
That\'s the one jinx. Quite a performer in its day developing 120 bhp with a top speed over 100. Somewhat overshadowed (and outsold) by the Jaguar XK series.
Over to you.
Interesting to note how far ahead of the rest, Lyons was with the XK but looking back now the LeaF looks rather classy whereas, in the wrong light, an XK can look almost tarty...but maybe that\'s the owners! :Laugh Years ago I helped to drop dirt-cheap Mk10/S-Type engines in more than one XK to keep them running. Damned if I know where the seemingly endless supply of matching numbers cars has come from today but maybe if you have the current purchase price, originality is easy to arrange. ;)
I\'ve got man-flu...a really serious case mind you...none your limp-wristed, 24-hour, hairdresser\'s man-flu. Anyway, I\'m stuck here feeling particularly sorry for myself so somebody has to pay - hence this devious puzzle posted without so much as a single clue as to its country of origin.....
Good to know I\'m not the only one who gets proper flu as opposed to some short lived imitation which used to be called "a cold"!
I\'ve been running round in circles on this one, but I think I now have it. My assumptions went...Italian, Ferrari but which model....looked at the 365 GTC, 330 GTC, 500 Superfast and 275 GTB. The light arrangements weren\'t quite right on the first 3, and all the pictures of the latter show it with headlight covers.....but take away the covers and....bingo.
So I reckon it\'s the Ferrari 275 GTB?
Did I not warn you it was devious? Clearly the mind and pen behind this had a soft spot for those you list and probably even the bloke they got in afterwards to sort it out too, though he never worked for Ferrari, but no...it is none of them.
I\'ll be polishing my \'Devious\' merit badge while you think again. Muhahaha
Hmmmmmm, I thought Ferrari straight off but a quick search killed imediatly that because of the quarter bumpers
I suspect something plastic now
Ker-pow....No. You are looking at cold hard metal....and not just the car. (What, no smiley for steely-hearted resolve? )
alfa romeo spider.
No...but that does put you closer to the eye that tidied up the original design of this to produce the final thing.
Looks like a 300s... Possibly a variant done by another firm.
Kodiak - if you mean Maserati, then the answer is......no.
I did think Ferrari was a little too obvious. There again jinx your devious comment may have been a bluff. Sadly for me it wasn\'t:).
So after some more head scratching, I was looking at Intermeccanica...and moving on from that, could this be the Apollo GT?
^ How does he do it? :D
You have it! A fine Intermeccanica co-production with Apollo\'s several, serial, entrepreneurial owners in the US - but not even Scaglione salvaged that rather uncomfortable rear quarter profile.
Well done Ken, I bet that took some googling on top the lateral thinking! I found it by accident looking for information on racing cars from Bertone a while back. Scaglione did some of the real landmark Alfas - so the Spider guess earlier on was spiritually close - even if it was totally wrong and the car by Pininfarina. :Laugh
Apollo\'s founders apparently hired Scaglione to improve their original (US) design. IM made the bodies and shipped them to the US for the mechanicals. As this was the mid to late sixties you would have thought it would have been easier to buy a Euro crossbreed off the peg.. Bristol, ISO, Monteverdi or even a Facel Vega...there was plenty of choice!
If things had gone on I was going to muddy the water with a Scottish red herring because Buick supplied the engine and that was started by a Scotsman...albeit in 1903! :evillaugh
Back to you. At least it wasn\'t just thee and me that time!
I quite like that.. I take it they are going for about £1200 these days and available in the autotrader bargins section?
Sorry, they\'ve never appeared in my "Best car you can get for £1200" game.
QuoteWell done Ken, I bet that took some googling on top the lateral thinking! I found it by accident looking for information on racing cars from Bertone a while back
Thanks jinx...yes it definitely took some finding. I used the Alfa Romeo clue to see what the likes of Pininfarina, Zagato and Bertone were upto. After getting nowhere, I looked up Italian car manufacturers (little knowing that in fact I was looking for an American company). Anyway I found Intermeccanica; from there is was relatively straightforward:).
Better see what I can find now....
Let\'s see how this one does. No connection to the last challenge! Off to hit the hay now so I\'ll say night night!

I know of a complete but disassembled specimen if you would be interested! Unfortunately most of the mechanical bits, carefully wrapped and labelled, are under a huge pile of spare parts for church organs with the body and chassis sat on top! I\'ll see if I can\'t come up with something to keep the interest levels up.
Very well...another rummage down the back of the sofa for this one. No clues again...I\'m still coughing.
That\'s an AC Ace.
"No it\'s not but it\'s an understandable reaction to what you can see of it! :)
Another head scratcher, but I think this could be a car with a famous connection because Steve McQueen decided to buy one. I believe its a Siata 208S.
That\'s the one...a pretty package for Fiat\'s V8 engine. The clue car was Steve McQueen\'s. This one wasn\'t owned by anyone famous but you can at least see all of it! All yours Ken.
Thanks jinx. According to wiki it seems McQueen may have rebadged it as a Ferrari? Wonder if that\'s true?
Keeping to a sporty theme, another little red number to consider:
Well it\'s a Stanguellini 1100 but I only know that because having ignored it while I tried to catch up on other stuff I Googled to find it on my tea break. TBH I thought it might be an OSCA based on the Siata\'s background neighbour or a total red herring in the sense of not being Italian at all!
I\'m still a bit behind so do another one Ken...see if you can capture their attention. You might be better going for something with zircon encrusted titanium alloy wheels and 15 inch wide tyres unless it is isn\'t only the two of us who remember the joyful scream of a firm walled cross-ply! :D
It is indeed Stanguellini 1100TC. I confess to stumbling across it whilst researching something else. Looks like I\'ll hold off on the MT.4 for a few months to give you time to forget:)

I won\'t speak for jinx Casey but when I was a kid I was always getting Observers books of either cars or aircraft, so I built up, and still do have quite a collection. Also each year I used to get the big Motor Show guides featuring all the latest models. On top of that my elder brother was a mechanic initially at BMC and then Ford, so our house was always full of car mags of some description. It\'s the Ascari FGT, the first product from Ascari in 1995.
As Will correctly identified the maker I think that this one should go to him....so over to you Will.
Dammit, does no one try at this, I googled Ascari, they only made four or five models of car. Any numpty could have found the solution out and I was deliberately not posting the answer.
Now I\'ve got to find something good.

Gents, I don\'t want to get involved in an argument over who should have been awarded the last one. I had assumed that Will was looking for P6 as opposed to 2000/2200/3500 SC/TC etc. In fairness my P6 comment was a little flippant though!
In the circumstances it\'s probably best I withdraw my offering and hand control over to Nigel.
(it wasn\'t a Corvair though:))
So it was either a Imp or NSU then :yes

Oh not as bad as I feared then....I\'ll assume the car and driver are correct, so it\'s either the location or the year....let\'s try year - 1984?
Spot on.
Here is the vid of the incident. approx. 2.30 in the vid.

With the angle of that bonnet, would it be the Metro in one of it\'s guises?

Not a Metro, but manufacturer is correct! (Albeit in a later form)

Again in the same family but not an early SD1 design
Think what the "lay of the land" is and also out of the box power wise.

not a fifties favourite - one for the modernists...shouldn\'t take somebody very long. :WaveBye
MR2 with a shoddy bodykit? ;)
no...but I won\'t tell them you said that
Oh dear. Another clue?
Evening jinx. Interesting challenge and a definite head scratcher!
However I think it is that rather unsuccessful sports car, the Breckland Beira?
Thank heavens for that...thought I\'d killed your thread.
Shame about the Beira, lots of press and promise but 2008 was so the wrong time to launch a new sports car with an LS2 engine...or rather - another new sports car with... :Hammer
Hats off to you. Me - coat on. :WaveBye
QuoteThank heavens for that...thought I\'d killed your thread.
Yes, sorry I was a bit slow on that one - I\'ll try harder next time:D.
QuoteShame about the Beira, lots of press and promise but 2008 was so the wrong time to launch a new sports car with an LS2 engine...or rather - another new sports car with... :Hammer
I\'m sure it seemed like a good idea at the time - but as you say timing was totally wrong. Hey ho, we all learn by our mistakes!
QuoteHats off to you. Me - coat on. :WaveBye
I hope you don\'t get too hot in that coat:)
Right, a complete car for a change.
Is it a DKW ?
Quote from: GreySilver Beast;860682Is it a DKW ?
Not a DKW Nigel - and not German.
"Not German" rather does for my guess of a Lloyd 400 which was only good as far forward as the A post anyway.
Never mind, the coat will keep me warm against the cold wind of failure. :)

Yes, very similar in looks to the Lloyd, but there is no connection that I am aware of.
Looks like this one has everyone stumped.
Some clues may therefore help:
Over 500,000 produced between 1957 and 1983 (yes I do mean 1983!)

Humber super snipe?
Quote from: HaywardRotary;861027Humber super snipe?
Good enough - it was actually the Imperial, but no external differences with the field of view I provided :)
All yours.
Here we go
No takers?
Here\'s a clue, Le Mans
The Rover/BRM gas turbine prototype?
If I\'m right - yet more evidence of the engineering milestones toppled at Solihull and then forgotten about. No wonder Audi\'s engineers were gobsmacked when they toured \'the rover\' and saw all the stuff its management never did anything with!
Carl - You\'ll remember the mid engined V8 sports coupe with the unstyled bodywork that Bill Boddy drove and pronounced spectacularly good only for Rover\'s top team to ignore the effect it might have had on sales. Now there was a lesson learned well in Ingolstadt! LOL
Spot on Andrew.
I do remember the v8 mid engine car yes.
Here is the Rover/BRM Le Mans race car.
Too flamboyant to be very difficult but also a \'house style\' familiar on different chassis. (FOS attendees beware!)
Is it Facel ?
Sorry Nigel, not a Facel and not French.
Is it a Willment Cobra ?
Good man - absolutely on the right track but not the right chassis. The chassis and body share the same nationality and you recently saw the chassis wearing different clothes, parked next to the bodystyle on a different host....think side lawn FOS :D
No interest? It\'s the Supersonic body style from Ghia - a signature design for the firm from 1953. It was first shown on an Alfa Romeo but subsequently translated to other chassis. This is one of the eight Fiat V8\'s to get the rocket ship treatment when Fiat could not shift enough of their standard offering. Goodwood showed a standard Fiat version next to one of the Jaguar XK120\'s that wore the Ghia body.
Clearly out of synch again - so I\'d suggest Nigel takes the honours as there was indeed a Cobra that got the supersonic treatment as late as 1965.
"Supersonic body style from Ghia"
Stayed out of this one as we had this discussion at Goodwood , Ghia obviously believed one size fits all etc :Giggle
I didn\'t see these cars at the show as from about 2pm I had my Accident :(
Will post a photo up in due course................ :)
Here you go :D
Looks very Russian
Very warm Clive :D
Has this gone dead ?
It\'s a GT86 or two, am I getting warmer ?
Come on put everyone out of their misery so the thread lives again
Or Subaru version of it? :)

I\'d guess at Chevy or Buick?
Well it\'s not a Yank Car,but Clive was the closest as its Russian :)
Its a Gaz Limo :yes
Ok over to you Clive..........................
Morning all.
Been on my hols so I\'ve not had much in the way of oppporunity to look in. Anyway I see things are hopefully moving again?
Back on track then
Well, my initial thought was a Japanese car and a few came to mind - but none are quite right. Will investigate a little further later.
Datsun Voilet or Datsun Pickup ?
Well, my investigations have not revealed too much. A lot similar, but none identical. Care to give us a clue Clive?
As Ken said give us a clue Clive :yes
Sorry been away and things :o
"clue" I thought I would resurrect the thread with a Rotary :cool
Is it a Rotary Pickup Truck ?
That\'s the one,
Next one then :)
Old Saab 96?
