Title: Had some welding done today ..
Post by: grinder on November 10, 2012, 04:39:27 PM
Hiya fellow FC owners

When the car was last MOT\'d back in June 2012 , my nice MOT man passed the car , but informed me it wouldnt pass next year due to rust :(

A friend of mine had some welding done by a mobile welder a few years back , and i was happy with the quality of work he did

I got him around to quote me a few weeks back , and we agreed a price and the work was carried out today on my drive way

All i have to do was get the car in the air and take the seats out .. easy enough :)

I will post the passenger side and driver side pics as seperate replies just to keep them seperate

Stu

The silver that you can see is seam sealant , he told me to paint that on , leave it for a week and give it a blast over with Shultz

So thats the plan , got to let it go off before i start to rebuild her

Im not sure how over paintable the sealer is , might give the inside a blast over with white paint .. not really bothered how it looks , its under the carpet ;)

Im going to give the chassis a quick once over with a wire brush on a grinder before i Shultz just so that it all gets a nice even coating

Fingers crossed it should be OK for next years MOT now

I might take the back wheels off , and give the inner arches a once over aswell .. no harm in getting them looking better and sealed !!

The car looks a bit of a mess underneath to be honest , as all the underseal is flaking off etc .. so a once over should make it look nice

And i might give some of the rough metal bits ( near the diff ) a rub down and some white hammerite on them , just so visually they look better

But all in all , im happy with the work done

I was charged £200 for the welding ( no idea if thats cheap or not ) and it took him about 4hrs to do it  .. happy days :D

It has. But it\'ll need doing again at some point I would think. TBH I was gonna get it fully redone underneath this winter rather than patched as such. Then I\'d have the security of knowing it was right before MOT time!
