Title: water/meth help
Post by: billybobbooth on November 09, 2012, 01:10:28 PM
I\'ve been doing lots of research and going to get a wate/meth injection kit.
I\'m going to run 4 jetsether in the lower or upper intake manifold. Im doing it here as I want the cooling affect as close to the rotors as possible not to cool all the intercooling pipes. And I can get a good jet angle and hidden pipes.

My questions are what size jets will I need looking at hitting about 350-370bhp running 98 shell oct.
I have greddy large front mount. T04b hybrid turbo. Direct cold feed air filter and fully loaded greddy emanage ultimate.

Also what safety devices do people have was looking into some sort of electrical bov/relieve valve system to cut boost levels.

4 jets!!!! overkill, you onnly need one jet before the throttle body and after the IC for your power levels, Aquamist do a good system with failsafes with their HFS systems

You need the nozzles far enough up the inlet piping so that the injecting can vapourish properly. And take more heat out of the charged air

Surly the idea is to get the air as cold as possible when it gets into the combustion chamber? Hence why I wanted to put it ether in the lower or upper inlet so all air has the same cooling and not one getting more than the other?

As I know most people put them on the elbow at the tb

Different auxiliary injection liquids have different properties in terms of cooling.  Water cools in the combustion chamber as it\'s difficult to atomise in the inlet tract but offers more cooling capacity particularly in the combustion/exhaust gas temp, methanol vapourises in the inlet tract better and is better at cooling the intake charge but doesn\'t take as much heat out overall.  However because methanol is a fuel you\'ve got no limit as to how much you can put in to cool it, you\'re limited with water because it doesn\'t burn.

Yes but your air temp sensor is in the throttle body and you need this readings from that to adjust your fuel maps. If you inject the water methanol after that you readings will be way out, your air temps could be 50* and then you would be making it less than half that by adding inject and fuel, which also cools the intake charge BTW,

The water methanol mix needs time to take heat out of the air. Hot air looses its heat by heating up things around it, and water is the best thing to remove heat. Methanol is good too.

Will has explained it far simpler than I can. If you want to learn more about WI and what\'s best to do etc then sign up to the aquamist forum and read through the threads on their, helped me learn a lot

Rice-Racing is worth reading about Water Injection if it\'s for a road car, if you can get past his creative use of english and some of his less savoury personal views he\'s got a lot of knowledge and his kit is designed to atomise the water in the inlet to get maximum intake cooling prior to combustion and he\'s making some serious useable power.

Any idea of what size jet I should use if it\'s going on the elbow?  Will be a 75/25 water/meth  was looking at 50/50 but has too many probs when water injector pump fails or run out of water as I need to keep costs down as a road car and keep it easy to top up

the aquamist kit comes with three jets, I would use the 0.7

If your pump fails its al :censored::censored::censored::censored: up, the percentage mixture makes no difference as to if its goes wrong

Higher concentrations of methanol are corrosive, particularly to things like rubber hoses and plastic parts in pumps, at 75:25 Water:Meth you\'re probably not going to have problems with this however at 50:50 you probably will.

50/50 by weight is the best to start off with. And if your injectant runs out you can just use water alone until it you get some methanol

This is why I want a build in fail safe that cuts boost. I\'m not the sort of guy that has a prob and just carries on.
Makes me really mad at work with our courtesy cars as some people phone up to say it over heated so I carried on driving it and then it just lost all power and stopped.

I\'ll sick with my 75/25 mix. Aquamist does look good. Was also looking at devilsown.

Trying to get some numbers together for a group buy from devils own on fduk, group buy section.

read this, it should clear up some questions for you and probably add new questions in your thread: http://www.alkycontrol.com/ ...check the FAQ section

I ran a 50/50 mix(denature/water) 21psi on 93 oct... over 500whp and it work just fine with two m10 nozzles.

I did not run this particular kit btw, but many 8-9 sec street cars run it and are more than happy.

I can show you pis of what a WM50 engine looks like inside after 30,000km of use at very high boost and power. I am one of the only people to actually have a running car that does this, but most tend to copy the information so I am reluctant to openly display it.

If you want some info and help, then I suggest you e-mail me for a specific need.

Other than that "water injection" is a fantastic thing for any engine ;) even if I do not make an offering I would highly recommend it to anyone :)

I\'m staying N/A for the time being so WI is a bit of a zero net gain for me.  The extra weight would offset any performance gain.  However I\'d be in touch were I to go FI.
