Hi guys, im new to the forum as you can see from my post count.
Im currently thinking about buying either an RX8 or an RX7 as a toy as i have a company car, im pretty clueless witht them so thought this would be a good place to start.
anyway, Hi!
Welcome to MRC :Wave
Do you have a particular variant of the Rx8/Rx7 in mind?
Hi and welcome to MRC :wave
If, as you say you\'re \'clueless\' an RX-8 might be a safer option? Some real bargains to be had at the moment and probably easier and cheaper to get parts etc
Welcome to MRC and we hope you can find what you are looking for, a good place to start would be our own for sale section.
Also, you may have already but make sure you drive both the RX-7 and the RX-8 as you will find the both are quite different vehicles to live with
Welcome.
I had been \'thinking about\' a RX-7 for quite some time, got one last week and now I\'m wondering why I didn\'t do so years ago! V happy :-)
Lots of good info in

What\'s your budget? That will determine your options.
There was a nice article in Car recently with an overview of the three generations of RX-7 and the RX-8.
Once you decide between those four, there are considerations within each type, e.g. Series 6/7/8 for the FD.
I bought a car advertised here, it was nice to be able to search through four years\' worth of the owner\'s posts on here and see the car\'s history.
Hi guys, thanks for all your replies, i think i have some research to do like you say.
If money permits it would be a 7 hands down but i cant help but think an RX8 for £2k is very cheap but maybe thats because its likely to die in 1k miles, is it still cheap though when you look t there potential for engine swaps etc??
I tend to think that the less knowledge one has, the more one should try and avoid the bottom end of the market for any given model. An expert could spot something good for little money, and/or fix any problems. OTOH someone like me is more likely to end up buying a car with problems costing more to fix than it\'s worth, if I go shopping for a bargain.
Therefore, I personally was looking at RX-7s that were mostly around £5-8k, in order to find a 96-onwards car with good history and good compression results. Not to say there aren\'t nice cars to be had cheaper among the earlier FDs, just that I\'m not confident in my ability to pick them out.
Engine swaps are going to be a major undertaking in time and money - it\'s not just about fitting the engine into the bay, it\'s engine mounts, gearbox position, driveshaft length, exhaust, and the biggie, electrics. Unless you find a company offering drive-in, drive-out conversions with a good reputation, then I wouldn\'t expect to swap an engine quickly, easily or cheaply. (not to mention that personally, having now driven a rotary, I wouldn\'t want anything else under my bonnet).
Assuming your budget doesn\'t stretch to £5k for a 96-on \'7, then I would suggest looking for an RX-8 that has been regularly cared for by an enthusiast who understands the rotary engine. Also, research the model differences, and things to look out for when viewing.
The RX-8 should be the best bet for inexpensively dipping a toe in the water of rotary motoring, as long as you find a good one (this was also CAR\'s conclusion I think).
Hi guys. Congrats on the buying an RX-7 samoht!
Triple.O.G - RX-8\'s are a real bargain at the moment, you get a lot for very little money. If you look over on the RX8 owners club forum you will see members cars for sale where you could, as samoht did, look at the car history that\'s been posted up and maximise your chances of getting a good one.
Buying an RX-7 or RX-8 without a good knowledge of the car, history and how the previous owner(s) have looked after the car is like playing Russian Roulette. You could be lucky, but maybe not....
Good luck with finding a good rotary car, whatever model you choose :D I\'ve had an RX-8 for over 8 years and love it. I got the rotary bug and bought a 1983 RX-7 (1st Gen, FB) last year too!
