Title: Looked at two more

One unregisterd 96/N fresh import yesterday at a dealer - an RB I believe - there was no model type on the door sticker.

Very clean, standard except from a cat back exhaust, roughly 100,000km and sill running in KM. Can\'t really fault the car other than it being a base model and having zero paperwork except for the export certificate. Nice set of staggered BBS LMs on it too. Tiny spot of rust on the corner of the drivers wing where it meets the a-pillar and a tiny bit of laquer flake on where the drivers wing meets the bumper. Would want the dealer to sort those as part of the deal.

the turbo change over was quite noticable, I don\'t wanna say jerky but it wasnt overly smooth.

Then looked at an RS this morning. Been in the country since 04, rebuilt engines and turbos 20k ago with a couple of minor niggles

1. slight misfire on idle which you can feel through the car as it misses.
2. Rev counter sometimes over reads by 1500rpm
3. rear wiper not working

How easy would 1 and 2 be to sort?

Turbo changeover far smoother, rolling road printout showing 283hp this time last year

The paintwork wasnt as good, also it\'d had a tiny knock on the rear resulting it needing a new rear bumper, with very very minor misalignment between the bumper and rear quarter at the bottom near the wheel arch.

Both cars up for the same amount £5500.

RB - fresh import, no history, really minor body work niggles
RS - well cared for car with lots of history and a rebuilt, needs a bit of body work and not sure if hte panel misalignment can be sorted.

Leaning towards the RB but what puts me off is the lack of the nice bits that the RS has, and also the mileage with no proof of rebuild

Hmmm, not sure.

I\'d go with the RS every day of the week. A good history car is exactly what it says on the tin. An import needs to be very special with good history around 100k miles in my book. Exchange rate is poor too so it may be bottom of the auction if only around 5.5k.

Who is the importer of the RB ?

Only other worry is to see if you can have it jacked up and checked for rust. Not usually a real issue with the FD but always worth checking. Body work can be fixed and isn\'t crucial in real terms.

The importer is Dormans Cars in Lingfield, Surrey. Mostly imports Mazda Bongos and more mainstream stuff but brought in this RX7 in March

Having looked over the sold prices on Japan used cars

http://www.japaneseusedcars.com/auction/auctions_results.htm

It appears to be on the money for an RB based on the mileage and condition, assuming it wasnt an R/A grade, which I felt unlikely as all the panels were spot on with no evidence of paint anywhere.

Thanks for the advice, need to have a good think. :)

sounds like you are being very picky dude..not a bad thing at all, but these are all at least 15 years old and as such are going to have minor paint imperfections etc. Id be surprised if you find many with 100% original paint. as for history, u wont get a fresh import with history ever...they come over with no paperwork. as reassuring as history is, i dont read much into it...id rather just inspect the car properly and make sure all is well at the time of buying.

Martin at Speedline has a nice RZ up at similar money, probably worth a look?

Thanks but I\'ve already been to see it :)

Adam, fair points all round. I guess I\'m just holding out for the perfect car. The RS was a nice car, but something at the back of my head says hold off and see what else pops up.

Also EDRX7Parts has handed my e-mail address to another RZ owner who is apparently looking to sell.
