Title: Apexi PFC and speedo/rev reading
Post by: Cashpoint on November 02, 2012, 04:01:12 PM
Both my speedo and rev counter don\'t sit at 0 with ign on but engine off. So of course they both read high once engine is running and i\'m moving. Speedo is 15mph when standing still and rev counter is at 850rpm. Can I use the  PFC to correct this ?

I think you need to sort the problem out. It could just be your clocks that are bust. I had a set where the petrol level read far too high.

Yeah nothing to do with pfc settings bro, sounds like The clocks/wiring or speed sensor is bad. Has it always been like this or since you connected to the pfc....could be bad wiring to pfc too.

Had a problem where rev would go to 6 o\'clock then drop to where they should be but it was accurate when it wasn\'t doing this. Then more recently it would sit at 800rpm when the engine was off. Sent it off to be repaired and came back with the speedo reading 15+mph when stationary.

Had a rather heated conversation with them as now the speedo will fail MOT.

They rarely check speedo calibration on mot. But on the rare chance they do, they will only fail you if the speedo displays a lower speed than your actually doing, but will not fail if a speedo displays higher speed than your actual. I would try a new cluster mate, if you have a delimiter chip wired into the back of the cluster, a short or bad connection in the wiring could cause this, also make sure the wiring to the pfc is correct.

Speedo isn\'t checked at all in an mot, doesn\'t even come into the proposed changes coming in on the 18 of this month!

Mine is a 99 spec car, so already went for the new cluster route but at between £400 -£800 for a second hand set I\'d decided to try a repair instead.

I had a reread of the mot special notices today and I was mistaken, come the 18 of this month the speedo comes into the mot test, although I am not sure how you are supposed to test it or what you are supposed to check, will have to wait till the 18 till the update the mot manual
