Ummm, hard to say. What power are you running/looking to run?

I would take a guess that with uprated discs and pads you should be ok for road use, with a full AP/Brembo upgrade for track usage.

Have to say i\'m a little dissappointed with the standard brake setup on my 92fd,  maybe it\'s just cos it\'s got old brake fluid in  who knows. Anyway as i\'ve just been informed by my garage that the front pads are just about had it i think this would be an ideal time to upgrade.

So Front disks, front and rear pads what sort and where from.

Black Diamond pads seem to have got a reasonable review looking back through the previous posts any others? And what disks have you tried?

Thanks
Mark

For its weight the FD is probably "over" braked. A few years ago it held the record for the quickest stopping production car. I\'d suggest you check your fluid and current pad state. My pads are almost dead and braking performance is still excellent (I can\'t comment on fade as I\'ve not tracked it yet).

I might be going for black diamond pads and drilled disks when I replace mine but to be honest it\'s more to do with the fact that they are far cheaper than the Mazda alternatives and look more bling!!

Editted to add: Try Clive (shyauto.com) if you are after a quote for black diamond pads and some "uprated" disks.

I\'m hoping to get some new front disks, pads all round and semi-racing fluid before trax if I can find the funds.  No complaints about the stopping power of the brakes - my experience so far is that they\'re more capable than the tyres (i.e. you can get the abs to kick in quite easily!).  Better tyres (i.e. not jap ones) would probably help too.

Was having a play with a bloke in a big merc on the way back from JAE (private road).  Stopped from top of 2nd gear (so ~70) really sharply when I noticed the next set of lights were on red.  Slightly scary moment until I realised just how good the breaks are!  Got a big thumbs up fro the merc too!

Never knew that

Yeah i suspect it maybe down to the brake fluid more than any thing else. It just doesn\'t seem to have the bite of my old car (FTO) but that did have upgraded pads (padgids) and disks (drilled) will get a quote / recommendation from Shyauto as they seemed to be mentioned a few times.

Thanks

I can do Brembo/Project Mu/Endless discs and Endless Pads. Clive (who runs Shyauto) definatly does Hawk pads, not sure what else he has up his sleeve!

Sorry to ressurect this but I\'ve just got to say something,

Mark C, theres a very real possibility that your calipers are starting to cease.  If you dont do your own servicing then make sure you get your service guy to check all of the calipers for this.  Bad fluid will result in some odd pedal feel and may boil off and extreme use but it should\'nt make you brakes feel \'dissapointing\' on an FD.  Before going for the upgrade make sure you calipers are in top condition, ceasing calipers can warp or even break the discs!

 Ok, I\'m done!

I used Black Diamond pads and Mintex discs all round at Bruntingthorpe this weekend.  They were not very good, infact pretty dissapointing and I didnt feel I was working them that hard.

That said, I was having to use 5th on the straight so it was hauling in some serious speed, but just not as well as I wouldof liked.

Anyone know where you can buy new calipers or get them re built?

Think one of my front ones has seized as it allways pulls to the right when braking
