Title: Coolant buzzer problems again!
Post by: Mikey22 on October 15, 2012, 08:46:50 PM
Hey guys,

I\'m in need of some help again. After starting my rx7 up today the low buzzer warning came on. This hasn\'t came on for ages since i bled the system and used a bottle of k-seal. Now i would say that a coolant seal has gone however there is no smoke coming from exhaust after the few few minutes (condensation smoke) and it idles fine. Are there any hotspots for coolant pipe leaks etc? Such as at the turbo? Ive checked everything in visible range but im wondering if its something hidden somewhere.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Hi mikey
I have had the same problem my Fd was leaking water. Small split in top of rad.
Had a problem finding it we think its been leaking for long time.
Just got bigger over time. It was right at top of rad. Arfter the car as got to max temp.
Turn it of then. Have a look right at top behind the fuse box at the front under bonnet catch. We had k seal in it we could see it on top edg of rad. Hope this helps

I would also check the lines where the heater hose attaches to the block - its on the spark plug side right at the bottom at the back (well it is on an FC) mine had a tiny leak there which caused it to gradually leak over time. I would also check that the AST and rad caps seals are clean and that they are firmly on else they will leak slightly when up to temperature.

Also check to make sure your rad hoses are clean I found a build up of crud
And corrosion so pipes would not seal properly OEM clips would not seal it. Took pipes off scrapped all crap off fitted new clips.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick reply, just been out to her now and had a go at bleeding the system to see if the buzzer would go off. Now i used a crude but effective old irn bru bottle cut in half as a filler. Put it in the filler cap (or the hole) topped up till about a 3rd full then started the engine. I ran the car upto 84 degrees and it wouldnt go any higher, well it got to 85 but thats it.  So id assume the thermostat was fully open. Not many bubble came up and i tried massaging all the pipes i could see however the buzzer continued to sound. I checked the overflow and it was between the lines of full and empty.

The only other thing im going to do soon is trade as many pipes as possible for silicone or new pipes etc. Although i\'ve already replaced quite a few.

Could there be a blockage in the block? Im just thinking how to move it on out.

Have you taken the pipe of the small one on the block behind intake
To let all the air out. You have to let it flow a bit. Just a thought

Found out why the buzzer was going off!

Found that a connector had come loose and detached down by the spark plugs. Must have come loose from the engine vibration (plastic connector looks broken) so will have to electrical tape it to keep it together. However as soon as i reconnected them the buzzer went off!

Strange as i took the pipe to the back of the TB off and filled with coolant it was pouring out of both the rubber pipe and the TB so it couldnt have been an air lock. so decided to check electrical connectors and sure enough one was not connected.

Happy ending!
