Christmas is fast approaching - which means our annual outing to this historic home of UK motor racing is nearing - always highly popular!
I\'ve just checked and
THERE ARE ONLY A FEW SPACES LEFT :2eek
Although this event is still eight weeks away, it\'s popularity is evident!
If you want to come alon to this, book
NOW or you won\'t get a place.
Book via THIS LINK (http://www.mazdaontrack.co.uk/brands-hatch-indy---7th-december-2012---opl-track-day-483-p.asp)
Don\'t book any garages (unless you want one for yourself!) as some have already been booked and I will sort this out with Nick at Mazdaontrack so we share 3 to a garage and will collect a contribution on the day from everyone (£10 for share).
Never done a trackday before? As on all trackdays, they are well managed and marshalled. There will be a comprehensive, compulsory, safety briefing at the start of the day for all drivers, followed by some slow “sighting laps” behind a lead car. There will be plenty of experienced trackheads present who will be only too happy give assistance to any novices. This is a short track, and very easy to learn, but very hard to master! Paddock Hill bend is legendary - immediately after the main straight, where you could be touching 120mph, you see a blind bend as the track dips suddenly downhill and to the right. It\'s an exhilerating feeeling to take this corner at speed...
Provisional timings are: Sign On 7:30 till 8:30
Safety Briefing 08.30
Sighting Laps at 9:00
Lunch break 12:30 – 13:30
Finish - 16.30 (subject to light on the day)
Event Type: Open Pitlane. “Open Pitlane” means you are free to drive on the circuit when you like, for as much as you like, subject to safe numbers on circuit. If you have a standard RX-8, then expect to get about 10-15 minutes on track with around 20-30 minutes to “cool-off”, else you, your engine, tyres and brakes will overheat!

Here are a couple of videos from our last outing to Brands. Note the slightly damp track (not on the racing line!) and the georgeous weather in the pm session!
First video is taken from my car, camera mounted nearside foglight area.
Second video taken in Arnie_O\'s car, with instruction form Steve Brewis.
Speaking to Steve today..... So tempted to get an 8 strip out and join you guys for some fun. Anyone know of a low compression 8 going cheap?
Carl Hayward\'s got one with a 12 month engine warranty for £2750 at the moment. Looks like a nice ride.
I\'m looking for something for half that. Going to strip it out so don\'t want to spend
Money on a car the is going to be
BECAUSE RACE CAR
I may have to strip mine.
Then people will ask "Why is your car noisy with no stereo?"
BECAUSE RACE CAR!
I would leave stereo in so I can blast my driving theme tune as I blasted around a track
I do that sometimes. AC/DC\'s Shoot to Thrill = +2 seconds a lap!
I totally agree. Git a few aggressive rap/hip hop tunes that give my focus 200+ extra HP
When I\'m driving
Oddly, Gangnam Style makes the Mondeo go very fast.
That song needs burning
Don\'t need a stereo, iPod with headphones if you want music or like me I just listen to the exhaust,
Steering ;) gently back onto topic.....
Just confirming that Full MRC members can claim back £15 towards the cost of this event (PM me after the event and I\'ll arrange with Lisa).
Now, what weight can I strip out of my car before Brands.......................:)

Rear seats, door cards passenger seat, spare wheel, roof lining, heating system, hand brake, carpets, sun visors, 6th gear, some fuel, 10ml of brake fluid, gear oil, engine oil, remove some paint, foam out of drivers seat, don\'t eat that second pie and cup of t, go to toilet....... Sure there\'s something I missed.
Would love to come on these track days.
Where can I find the details of future events? If I was a new comer to the site ;)
This thread possibly? (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73930)
casey will no doubt start a 2013 trackday thread later in the year. But I can virtually guarantee it will include but not be limited to Oulton Park in the Spring, Japfest, Cadwell and Brands Hatch in December, with a few others thrown in for good measure.

I\'ll add that to the list :)

If you subscribe to the ***TRACKDAYS 2012*** thread then I post up everything there, with links to individual threads for events as they get within about 8 weeks. I also put trackdays on the forum calendar, which appears at the top of the forum main page. Is there anywhere else you think I could be missing?
No that\'s good, just like to make things available for the lesser people such as myself with rubbish locating skills. More of a practical kind of person.

:Giggle Will66 beat me to it!
I try to arrange a "core" of 4 trackday events per year which, to date, have been supported by MRC "officially" and qualify for a rebate of ~£10-15. Hypothermia kindly helped out this year with the Cadwell Park trackday arrangements back in September. Brands Hatch in December and Japfest in May have started to figure as two "regulars" in the annual calendar, due to their popularity.
Outside the core events there are usally several others, such as Snetterton in July this year, organised by "California Stlye".
I\'m seriously thinking of including Croft next year, maybe in place of Oulton or Cadwell. Donington would be good too, but depends on cost and noise regs. I try and avoid any events less then 105dB static to ensure maximum opportunity for everyone to come along.
Well I for one really hope Cadwell is included in next year as its been my fav to press :)
Final bump for this one as with 66 places already sold it isn\'t going to take long before it\'s sold out (probably 75 max). Last chance.....
Quote from: steve garbutt;838249Well I for one really hope Cadwell is included in next year as its been my fav to press :)
+1 on that!!
Really annoyed I could make it this year as I thoroughly enjoyed it last year. A great track and its probably the track day where I felt I made the most improvement from the start of the day to the end.
Ian.
Btw what hotel are people staying in as I want to book early :)
Thankfully, this is a day trip for me, so not using a hotel :)
For convenience, there is a hotel right at the entrance, but it\'s a Thistle hotel at ~£80/night B&B. I know some guys used a Premier Inn last year to save cost. The "room only" cost for a two night\'s stay, advanced pay, no refund is £86. It\'s about a 10 minute drive to the circuit.
Thistle Link (http://www.thistle.com/hotels/united_kingdom/dartford/thistle_brands_hatch/index.html?tmcampid=11&tmad=c&tmplaceref=ggl2_thuk_19316&gclid=CPeT7pHPg7MCFTMRtAodtywAaA)
Premier Inn link (http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/SEVROY/sevenoaks-/-maidstone)
Steve, have a look at these, and maybe see if there is anything else around. As soon as you choose something, let us know and I\'ll "promote" it on here and over on the RX8OC too. I doubt if anyone else has thought about a hotel yet!
Nearer the time we also need to think a place for a meal on the Friday night. We had a meal at the Beefeater next to the Premier Inn last year, but the service was diabolical, so will try somewhere else this year! Need to book early due to it being the Christmas period!
I thought the Indian place we went to a couple of years ago was quite nice... might not everyone\'s cup of tea mind...
^^ Yep, that place was OK for the food, but rather empty with no atmosphere. I recall we had to hang around waiting for the place to open up :Giggle
I\'ll see if there are any other places nearby we can try.
So, list time, who\'s up for a meal nearby after the event? I\'ll probably need to book something soon as it\'s going to be busy with Christmas bookings.

I would have made it, but, I am not sure about the work commitments hence, I didn\'t put my name down. I think I would have to Gate-crash or contact Phil (thats if he has spare space and willing to take me with him) and jump with him and support him and all of you guys on the track day. ;) :).
Mir
As always, everyone is most welcome to come along and hang around, chat, take pictures, go out on some passenger rides, etc. We should have 4 garages in block together so we can have a good social day in between track stints.
If anyone hasn\'t been to a trackday before and wants to see how they operate this is a good chance to find out. Entry is completely free to the circuit and the pit area. There is a helmet hire (£10, if you don\'t have one) and a £10 passenger sign-on fee, which covers you to passenger in any number of cars for the whole day.
Just over 4 weeks to go now :D
FOOD:mmmm! - Based on the inputs so far, I\'ve booked a table for 10 people at a highly appropriately named pub nearby, "The Rising Sun". Plenty of parking and very near the circuit. Reviews of the pub and food generally very good.
Rising Sun Webpage (http://www.risingsun-fawkham.co.uk/welcome.html)
The only thing is, they need the table clear for another party at 7.30pm, but we can decamp to the bar area at that time if we wish to stay longer. Bearing in mind the light will be fading at ~4pm, allowing for packing up, we should be leaving the circuit by 5pm and so I\'ve said we\'ll aim to get there ~5.30, giving us 2 hours to eat. I hope that\'s OK with everyone as it\'s not easy to find what I hope is a good place to eat in the vicinity of Brands Hatch!
Ray, I\'m sure they\'ll have a curry dish on the menu ;)
Quote and update please (Yes if staying for food, No if not);
1. Zarterone - Yes not the same place as last time that was a nightmare, I think we waited over an hour just to get some pretty poor food half of it went back

Hi guys,
Originally posted up this thread (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=841043&posted=1#post841043) in general chat. Basically need someone\'s help in that I need to video and record a car flying around a track! It\'ll be two microphones in the cabin and possibly one in the engine bay, along with the camera inside.
So if anyone wants to let me clip a couple of microphones and a GoPro to their car drop me an email :)(i won\'t be sticking anything to paintwork or on the outside of the car)
mairja@live.co.uk
Thanks in advance!
I should think you will be spoilt for choice. :) Our track day organiser should perhaps be given first refusal.:god
Thx Ray, but as I\'ll be packing two cameras on the day I\'ll let someone else have the chance to get some footage from their car. As you were the first to post up, are you interested? If not, I\'m sure there will be others!
Jackaleks, in case you were unaware, Brands Hatch will only allow cameras that have fixed mounts, no sucker mounts allowed, no matter how good they are. Just didn\'t want you to waste your time if you were unaware and planning on using any sucker mounts.

Not a problem! i\'m going to make some heavy duty clamps for my mics and i\'ve got a cage mount for the GoPro.

:) Somehow I very much doubt that, and with your new suspension upgrade you should easily be breaking the 60 second Indy laptime (if it\'s not to damp!)
I am a yes for food... should really start paying attention to this thread
^^ :spank Lucky I guessed you\'d probably stay for food Aston :Giggle
What you trying to say Malcolm?
Nothing more than I hoped/guessed you\'d stay to eat and I booked you a place even though you didn\'t say you\'d be staying :)
What did you think I was saying
Guys,
The day is almost upon you and I\'m feeling pretty gutted at not joining you at Brands.
Have a great day and all come back safely.
Chris
Thanks Chris - sorry you are not with us on this one, we\'ll miss you not being with us :driving
Well, at least we should be snow free :Laugh; it\'s going to be cold and windy, with maybe the odd light shower but some sunny intervals too!
NickD called me this morning to re-confirm the total of FIVE garages we have booked, so the first person arriving tomorrow should see some signs up on a block of garages with either my name, or something with a rotary connection to it!
Please keep one garage clear for Pukka, as he\'s got a lot of gear to disgorge and needs more space, the rest of us have 2.5 cars/garage, so we can just use whatever one is convenient at the time.
See you all soon :wave

Good to hear the weather will be reasonable for you all tomorrow. Keep it on the black stuff and off the green stuff.
Have a drink for me Steve.
I\'ll be in touch in the new year, I have some mods that will require your assistance.
Chris
Look forward to catching up Chris :)
Just for ya drink. Now am looking forward to drinking it haha

Gutted I couldn\'t make this one but been busy so not had time to look at my car as it sick, but will be there next year ,so have a good day and put in a lap for me ,see you all soon
Jim
^^ You were missed Jim - you\'d have had some fun in the slippery conditions in the morning. I very much look forward to seeing you next year!
However, it was good to see Clive come along to say hello to everyone and bring the inevitable few bits for people, like brakepads :) - and thx for payment for the February trackday Clive.
The next bit is what I have posted up on the RX8OC forum, so if you\'ve already read that then don\'t waste your time reading it again!
Well, I got home totally cream-crackered last night and went to bed early before I had a chance to post up about the day.
Firstly, thanks to everyone who came along and made the day so enjoyable, especially given the rather miserable weather we were greeted with as we exited the briefing - sleet!! Luckily, the weather improved throughout the day; the track conditions changing from "like skating on ice" to just a bit greasy, with some dry lines developing throughout the afternoon. It certainly wasn\'t as cold as I was expecting either :D
Various thoughts from me;
Aston - so sorry you weren\'t able to take your place, you were missed on track and around the pits, hope you are able to make the next one. Please speak to Pete (conann) who took a half day of your place last minute and will make some contribution to your lost day.
Will - best of luck with sorting out your engine problem. I was on the track the 2nd time your car started to belch smoke and it was such a sad sight to see. Good to see you are thinking positively about dealing with whatever the issue turns out to be. Remember that Clive had this happen at Cadwell and it cleared itself, theory I believe was a chuck of carbon had temporarily wedged a seal open and dislodged itself later.
Another sad sight of the day was seeing "bits" flying up from somewhere at the end of Cooper Straight and seeing people running to the fence at the back of the paddock. Once I\'d got there I saw the very sad sight of Phil\'s (Pukka) beautifully track prepped RX-7 pointing the wrong way on the circuit, having bounced off the Armco along the straight during it\'s first track session :( . Shades of the issue Seanp had at Bedford several years back? The car didn\'t seem too badly damaged, but was trailered home later in the morning. I very much hope to see this car performing on track next year.
Everyone - most impressed with the driving skills out there is such slippery conditions :god. I honestly didn\'t enjoy my first session, it was just too skittish with my poor tyre choice, such that I was only able to achieve 77secs a lap  instead of my usual 62-63 in the dry with the same setup. I\'m pleased to say my times and enjoyment improved immensely as the day wore on and the smile had most certainly returned after lunch :D
Laugh of the day - NickD in the briefing; "the most difficult situation to deal with out there will be hypothermia"  - sorry you weren\'t able to join us Ian :D
Ray - I\'ll have to get a set of those overalls, excellent piece of kit! Impressed with the acceleration you were getting out of the corners, looking from (increasingly) further behind :( :D
Paul - you\'ll be awesome in the MX-5 with those Federals, MUST get a passenger ride with you before change the car again
Steve - "Most Gravel Collected Award" :Giggle , thankfully nothing else collected ;)
Ian - awesome passenger ride where you were extracting everything out of the car, very impressed with the Vred\'s in the wet.
Chris - ditto, your car sounded great and performed superbly on the RE050\'s
Pete - thanks for your thoughts on the Falkens on track, having serious deliberation now!
Dre - hey, how did we miss not passengering with each other! Sorry the Black flag for noise put a slight dampener on the day for you.
Nige - great to see you having fun and smiling throughout the day, relieved nothing happened as you had no insurance cover!
I thoroughly enjoyed the food, atmosphere, sights ;):) and most of all, the company, in the pub restaurant. Shame about the rather chaotic parking, but shows the place is popular!
I look forward to seeing many of you again in February, when I\'m hoping for one of the those lovely crisp days with bright sunshine and a DRY track to play with :driving
Yes was a fantastic day :)
Found out I\'m quick when it\'s really wet even though I was on semi slicks :rollin
Don\'t know where I got the grip from considering the semi slicks I had on and most were finding it very slipy.
It\'s was only a slight gravel rash and a small impact with the barrier :D no harm done :)
I\'ll get a vid of me getting totally wrong and ending up in the little litter and some of my good laps on the wet, I\'ll edit them as they are about 30 mins long with waiting in the pits and all.
You too can now experience the thrill of hitting the armco on a trackday!!
Could of been a lot worse!!
http://youtu.be/NH0s4KAP6_Y
See you in February had a great Christmas !!:Santa
Was very lucky there, it could have been a bigger impact.
Glad everything was ok, apart from a bit of cosmetic work.
Ouch, I watched the video and every time it passed on Cooper Straight I was tensing up, waiting for the incident. Didn\'t realise it was several laps before it happened, so I was a wreck before I saw what actually happened. Quite a hard impact there, so pleased no-one hurt and the car didn\'t look too bad back in the garage. Was it just cosmetic damage, or did some suspension components get bent?

It was a good day! My RX8 will be back and hopefully faster and lighter. I have sinister designs on doing something motorsport-y too.

I\'ll probably be in touch in the New Year Carl. :D
Is will going for a PP inlet side port outlet combo? Hmmmmm???????
I\'m going to have a crack at seeing if I can be competitive in the Club N/A section of the Time Attack Championship. The current champion is driving an E46 BMW M3 with a standard engine. If Top Gear is to be believed then an M3 laps their test track in the same time as an RX8. I figure that with a pokier motor, some weight loss and more grip I may be able to no be embarrassed.

With a serious custom motor we could give you over 300hp but that costs alot.
Using the RX8 engine with certain mods and losing weight we can make it competitive im sure.

The top gear test track is always referred to as a power circuit too so on tight English race tracks you should be good to go.
I don\'t believe that the e46 has a standard engine for one second, I would I aginf he has got at least a "Cam" in it, what ever they are I don\'t know:)

Just out of curiosity, how much for one of those 300hp NA motors? Not like I\'ve been thinking about my next project much;) PM please:D
They\'re not cheap!
But I\'ll be in touch in the New Year about something more affordable than a 300 bhp N/a PP screamer.

Almost certainly, but I\'m looking to see if I can be competitive in the Club N/A class. Not outright.

@ the moment Looks like the undertray/splitter/Front bumper/indicator/feed side skirt/Oil cooler/front wing/Rear quarter/2 armco dents in both rims/lower arm bolt bent, so once again it could of been a lot worse, still will changing the turbo/exhaust/intake/diff over the next few weeks just a bit more work !! Hi Phil,
At least you were trying! soon have it fixed i reckon.:cool
It would be good to see you at Brands on the 22nd of Feb Phil.
I saw you going to Snett a couple of months back with your car on the trailer, i was going the other way in my black RX8 coming back from the Saturday time attack.
Hoping we can get George out for the 22nd in his time attack FD too.

See you in February had a great Christmas !!:Santa
Yeah when we were watching you from the pits, we all said oh f**k at the same time!
Say thank you to your lady wife for the curry it was awesome ! :cheers
What do you mean?
Phils\' wife made curry in the pit Garage , it was lovely just what we needed to warm up , it was freezing brrrr
Sorry BlitzBoy. I got what you meant. That was directed at Carl.
You forgot your quote button Will lol
Didnt even realize you were there Mark, did you stay long ?
I was there in the Morning session, I was hoping to get a pax ride in Phil\'s machine, chatting to Phil and Clive, was cool watching the Mazdas go round the track, but was amazed with the Mk1 Golf with the 1.8 turbo engine staying glued to the rear of the R35 GTR!!
The morning session for me was the best as i had loads of fun in the snow and rain :D
Yep the golf was quick, he overtook me a few times but i managed to stay a little closer to the back of him in the wet.
You thinking of a track car Blitz ?
No, but might take my street silver FD on a few track days next year for a laugh
