The lights went up by themselves when the car was parked & would not retract with either the button on dash or turning on/off headlights. I replaced the retractor switch on the dash but no difference.
I checked through the troubleshooting in the fsm & all seemed ok, continuity at switch, correct voltage in plugs, all fuses seem ok but then got to the actuator motors.
It says to connect certain points on the plug to positive battery & ground, when i do this i can hear a relay click but the lights do not move.
Next step was the retractor relay in the relay box at the front of the engine bay but my car does not have one or any wiring going to the underside of the relay box where the retractor relay should be. I have now identified that as it is a japanese import t does not have the above mentioned relay but instead has individual relays in each retractor motor.
There is a thread on RX7club that a guy replaced these relays as they were corroded but the problem is they are discontinued.
Is there a way of bypassing these relays to confirm they are at fault or can anyone that has good knowledge of electrical systems/components reccomend a soloution other than new/2nd hand motors?
All I can say is if they have both popped up its most likely not the headlights but a faulty relay.
The Retra relay (black) is in the drivers side footwell mounted to the F100 flasher/CPU box.
Just had a look in the footwell, there is a connection above the fusebox labeled F100 looks like a 2 pin relay can be connected but there is no relay there just 2 green plug connections

Might have thrown you off the scent with the F100 reference (you have pictured the joint box). It\'s the flasher relay/CPU you are after - struggling to attach a pic so see below link for an image. There should be a metal spider bracket attached to it that the retra relay is mounted on (at the top from memory).
Hope I\'m right or I\'m going to struggle to put our car back together otherwise!

It\'s been a while since I\'ve seen these parts fitted so it is possible I\'ve made a mistake.....
at work now but will look tonight or tomorrow
if the relay was at fault surely the motor would operate when connected to battery directly? but it only makes a clic noise thats why i suspected the relay inside the motor
If so, what was the resolutuion. I have a similar issue.
thanks

Ive not actually got round to sorting it out but im 99% sure the problem is the retractor relay, it is located on top of the F100 relay box in the picture on post number 4 above, when i wiggled it around the lights pop up & down again, just need to get hold of one, as far as i know the same relay is used in some early mx5\'s swell, heres a pic of it

also found this post http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=1449.0 which seems to be same issue
thanks, i will have a look next weekend.

Same with mine, that relay in foot well was the cause, it\'s further back than the fuse box, i.e. closer to you and to the right when you\'re looking
Yesterday i shorted the brown & red wires on the connector & the lights do pop up & down with the button on the dash so you could do that as a temp fix if u want
Yes tried the fix as you suggested and it has worked, thanks. Will now begin the hunt for a replacement relay.

I have the relay you are after available. If you still need one, send me an email rex7rex7 at gmail.com
Bone,
thanks for the offer, however you are about 12hrs too late. I have just bought one as a best offer from a certain well known internet auction site. If i have any probs with it, i\'ll give you a shout.
