Title: Its making LOADS of noise
Post by: J4P RX on July 16, 2004, 07:05:48 PM
Just driven it (ok only 2 miles) with the new suspension on, and theres loads of knocking noises.  Its seriously load and very constant.  It doesnt feel like anything is happening at the time though.

Should this concern me?  Bear in mind im drifting at Silverstone tomorrow too...

Hi Lee

Is it working per say, i mean, does it feel like its damping right etc.
It would be very wierd for suspension to make noises like you are suggesting.

& you mean it dont feel like the suspensions bouncing at all or that knocking isn\'t doing anything?

It feels ok, no-where near pushing it though as the noise concerned me.

I spoke to the guy who fitted it and he doesnt know what it could be as he assures me everything is done up properly.

not sure what the FC suspension looks like (semi struts up front and rear ?)

What have you had done ? new struts, springs, bushes ? everything ?

I would go round what you can see and spanner check everything to ensure its tight. The usual suspects are the nuts that holds the shock absorber rod into the strut top. (causes the shock absorber rod to bounce around under normal vibration)

As I saif i\'m not too sure what the FC looks like suspension wise so I could be way off ... to be sure its not somthing it should be doing if fitted correctly.

Did the kit contain solid top mounts? If it does then that will be it!

The standard suspension uses rubber top mounts to kill this noise.

Lee, i also am no expert. Just know they were worn but cant see how it would make them knock unless they were bottoming out so to speak.
I would try for a second opion from a garage, just in case.

Ok, Lee, it looks like Fish has jumped to the rescue. It does contain pillow mounts.

If you have solid top mounts then the rattle is normal.
