Title: coolant issues
Post by: anthony on September 22, 2012, 10:37:45 AM
Found a nice puddle of water under the car which came from the drivers side small under tray. That connects to the arch liner.

Belive this has come from the overflow tanks overflow.

As part of a test I was suggested to remove the AST -> overflow pipe to see if water passes to test if the caps are broken.

1.) Does anyone know if coolant should be coming out of the AST pipe that connects to the overflow when cold ?

Or should it ONLY pass when the pressure has built up?

Mine is dribbling out on cold and I am not sure going on previous posts if this is normal or not.

If this is bad:

2.) I am Struggling with the mazda parts center to order or for them to work out  what the AST and engine cap parts are.

Can anyone confirm if this is an AST cap with the spring ?

Or know anywhere else online i can order an AST and engine cap as it\'s probably worth replacing anyway so i can rule it out.

thanks all

Hello Anthony sorry to hear you have problems,

Yes that cap is fine and it may be worth changing both caps anyway as sometimes the seals inside the cap do not seal and cause problems

(you can use the same cap on both)

Hopefully this is no more than too much water being put in the system as too much water will be pushed out where you describe.

Only top up via the cap actualy on the engine and leave the others alone as the system will find its own level.

"if" it is not this then sadly it will mean that a water seal has failed inside the engine and the combustion inside the engine is pushing the water out, lets hope its the first thing.

Hope this helps
