Title: Anyone running a Walbro 400lph fuel pump
Post by: JayD on September 22, 2012, 04:01:41 AM
As the title states

Looking at possibly upgrading mainly for reliability but I\'m currently taking my car over 450-500bhp and I\'m hearing the 255\'s are only really good for 400bhp

Anyone running one? noisy? Feedback?

Cheers

Most people just run a Bosch 044 as they can be run in the tank, I had a Toemi 280lph pump in my FC which would have been good for some bigger power.

If you are looking at bigger power maybe think about running a swirl pot with a smaller lift pump and then some 044s.

I have looked into the Bosch pumps and have see all sorts of issues regarding starvation on less than 1/4 tank going round left handers

Also the cost of have brackets made to drop it in the tank

The walbro 400 is a direct replacement which is what I like no faffing..

As for swirl pot, thats something I have thought about but I\'m not going to spend alot of time on tracks or drag strips :/

I\'m open to ideas Im just don\'t like over complicated setups, to many points of failure

Think of a good fuel setup as an engine warranty, what happens if the pump fails on max boost?

The walbro 255 lph pumps have a good track record, and I\'ve seen setups using 2 of these in parallel which will provide more than enough juice for even monster power !

I am thinking of something like that, it also means you could have it setup so the 2nd pump only switches in at the higher boost levels.

You can run a stock fuel pump and make really good power with no issues on the FD RX7.
well over 500hp is possible. On one car we have had nearly 600hp.

This is what I have heard but I guess what I\'m doing is looking at a replacement in the event of failure.

Given that it\'s 18years old the oem unit I don\'t mind buying a backup to put to one side

Thanks for the response, nice to get confirmation from a tuner :-)
