Title: Turbo help
Post by: Eoiny555 on September 01, 2012, 08:49:30 PM
Finally got the car back on the road today but i dont think my turbos are boosting properly. I found the Ypipe coupling was loose so tightnd it along with other hoses.

the turbo kicks in about 2500 rpm. before this my boost gauge is below the 0 mark. when it boosts the gauge goes to 0.4 but will not go any higher regardless of rpm

The car has a HKS evc IV that was installed when i got it but i dont know if this is set properly or has anything to do with the lack of boost

these 2 have been disconnected aswell but i think this is because the evc does thier job

The first pic of your gauge  shows reading under 0 is this when car turned off? if so reading a little low and the actuator spring is set at 0.5 bar and as you have a avcr and the boost solenoids are disconnected i would say your running with out the avcr working.

So running 0.5 bar corrected , Check your avcr settings and connections?

AVCR = Boost controller!

Id follow the installation guide again bud check every thing in its place. The rx7 bleeds air off the actuator so follow the piping to the boost soleniod check connections etc If you have a multimeter check the solenoid coil for continuity. If there is a monitor mode on the HKS check if your reading boost.
If you disconnect pipe to soleniod you will boost massively , quick way to find out the boost controllers at fault!!! BUT BUT BUT YOU RUN THE RISK HERE OF BLOWING UP YOUR MOTOR ....YOU NEED TO GET OFF THE THROTTLE AS SOON AS YOU SEE IT ABOVE 0.5!
Just a quick way to diagnose....pls dont flame me .

Have you check for leaks in the induction route as well? I see a nut missing of your inlet manifold in 1 of your pics?

reset & reprogrammed boost control but still no difference, pic was taken just after i put uim back on but yes its bolted down now. I had a look at piping & found a loose clip on y pipe coupler which i tightened, ive found a small 1" hose split coming off the main pipe from the air filter & also another pipe that bolts down behind the uim on the drivers side has a sheared bolt, could this cause the lack of boost?

Air filter side wont be it as not seeing any pressure only vacuum. Pics of pipe with sheared bolt might help.

Also where\'s your boost gauge plumbed in? UIM? if you got another or move take of to outlet of turbo\'s . ( that\'s where your old solenoids plumb to) and see if there\'s a difference in pressure....difference equal pressure loss.

Some pics of set up etc will help (seq/ non seq )...your running a PFC? what boost you seeing on controller (if fitted).

i ran 0.5 bar for a year when my car was converted to non seq as i just couldn\'t control boost.....could not a get a ebc to control it...now on a good old fashioned MBC at 0.85. no issues!

I fixed the cracked 1" pipe but havnt driven car since, it is connected to what looks like a dump valve with a arrow pointing towards the airfilter (assuming flow direction) its located on the inside of the drivers side strut mount behind air filter
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee28/Eoiny/Mazda/20120902_185240.jpg)

the pipe with the broken bolt again is attached to the back of the air filter piping with a 1" pipe then bokts on to the top of the air control valve at the back of the lim under the uim by the drivers side bulkhead

dont know if its seq/non seq, how do i tell? its got a standatd jap ecu so no pfc

am i right in saying boost should be 1.0 bar dropping to 0.8 @ 4500 rpm when secondary kicks in & then back to 1.0 bar? what rpm should I feel boost starting from?

Hi mate send a pic of complete engine bay...unsure of boost pattern as mine is non seq....its on here somewhere do a search.

The fact your running an ebc and the soleniods are disabled makes me think your non seq....what boost setting have you set in EBC? ) 0.8 max personally whilst setting it up?

Leak or boost setting me thinks i\'m going with latter......

Havnt had a chance to do much with work, i reset the evc again & reprogrammed  but still nothing

heres a pic of engine bay
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee28/Eoiny/Mazda/D1000039.jpg)

been searching online & apparently the vaccum chamber/tank can split & leak so going to check that next. there are 2 small filters on the vaccum lines going to the evc box in engine bay, manual says these should be replaced every 3k miles, ive never replaced them, could these cause it?

also read someone had simmilar boost issues & replaced cat & it fixed it, would it not have failed mot if cat was goosed though or is tbe emissions less strict with rotariees?

Quote from: tiger18;835961Have you checked the throttle eblow o ring?

Only got a chance to look at this now, took off the elbow & the o ring is streched so it wont fit in the groove all the way around, some of the stud threads were damaged also so i took out the studs & replaced them with bolts & cut a bit off the o-ring so it fits in the groove & i ran a bead of silicone sealent around it & bolted it back on, the boost is now going up to .7 bar so looks like ive found the issue.

I am going to get a new o-ring to seal it properly & hopefully this will make up the small bit of missing boost. Any one know what size o-ring i need?

Thanks for your help :-)

im looking at getting these http://www.wannaspeed.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=83_96&products_id=182

anybody any experience with this company?

its round like the 20B ones guess it dosent matter as long as its the correct length?
