d\'oh!
i put too much oil in when topping up, and all was well at low speeds, but when i accelerated a bit harder (joining the motorway), smoke started pouring out of the exhaust.
i went to a local mechanic and he drained the oil and put a more reasonable amount back in. i drove away and it seemed to have done the trick, but later on after i started the engine (after it was off for about 10 min) the smoke started again.
i assume there is still some extra and it needs to be burned off. but what effects will this have on my engine and the turbos?
will it damage the engine/ turbos/ exhaust in any way?
could it be smoking again because of the second turbo?
i have a standard fd3s twin turbo, any help would be appreciated,
thanks
Mine was over-filled once but i got no smoke, how full was it?
Is the smoke definatly coming from the exhaust? It could be oil burning off from around the engine bay.
Also watch out for leaks around the sump gasket now, if you still have your undertray on, take it off and check! Too much oil can over pressurize the sump and blow the gasket! Be aware that if that is the case, as well as losing oil, you will get no indication from the dash until its too late.
what colour is the smoke?
if its like a light grey that will be the oil just burning from somewhere, undertray or something, this exacty what happend to my old car.
it because you car is starting to warm up hence it burning the access oil from where it went everywhere under the car.
Try and clean some of the remaining oil off from under the car.
