Post by: Jot17 on August 07, 2012, 02:07:53 PM
Hey guys,

I want to ask what apexi power fc do I need what model number?
My chassis number starts of fd3s 4. Is that a 1992-1995? Because my car is registered as 1996 so I\'m confused lol please let me know if you guys know what power fc I need.

Thanks!!

The Apexi model numbering scheme can be a bit confusing as they dont match your cars chassis number.

If your car chassis number starts FD3S-4xxxxx then your car is a 1996 model which requires the Apexi PFC starting with the serial number FD3S5

If you have trouble finding one, I have a 1996 FD leaving Japan soon which is for breaking which has one.  Probably available in about 8 weeks time.

Ok, the reason why I asked is because I read up on here somewhere that fd3s-4 is 1992-95 so maybe that was wrong, but that\'s great thanks for the info, and as for the power fc, if I don\'t have one by then, then I will get in contact on your number if that\'s ok.

Thank You!
Jot

Hi Jot

Sorry I\'m still away the moment so haven\'t had a chance to look at popping round to see you, but I haven\'t forgotten.

Martin\'s right - the thing that is confusing it that the chassis number is FD3S-4 but the ECU will be part number FD3S5.

The ECU I had was FD3S4 which was for a 92-95 8-Bit ECU, which has different connectors.

Martin, the car thats coming from Japan - is it possible to take a look at the parts once it arrives - it will be the little bits and pieces I need....

Cheers
Dave

Hi,

I did reply on your parts for sale thread but you didn\'t reply so I thought you was busy, I want to ask another question, what is the difference between 8bit and 16bit, which one would I need?

Thanks.

Understand you can use an 8bit \'FD3S\' or 16bit \'FD3S5\' on your 1996 car (these units are for 1995-1998 models).

Although, Mazda\'s term "16-bit" can be vague. It\'s possible the chip itself didn\'t change at all. They may have had a slower 16-bit-instruction-capable hybrid chip running 8-bit math routines for faster execution time. Maybe for the newer configuration, they may have simply bumped the clockspeed up and changed the instructions and data-tables (ram/rom size) to work with 16-bit routines. Some of the 8bit ecu\'s had a three plug configuration and the newer units had four plugs. Either way there are harnesses out there for these. Drop me an email if you are still looking for one of these.
