Cadwell Park, Wednesday, 12th Sept, full day, Open Pitlane format
We\'re going back to Cadwell Park!
If you\'re a newcomer to track days then this is a very well managed and marshalled event. Many people have gained an appreciation of track days here on this circuit in the rolling British countryside - most are now enjoying regular track days and digging deep into their pockets after having being seduced by Cadwell. You\'ve been warned!
The day consists of a briefing and slow sighting laps behind a lead car to familiarise yourself. Paid instruction is available (and recommended) and there will be quite a few experienced trackheads who will be happy to give assistance.

Tina and Nick took very good care of us on all the times that we\'ve visited - please mention my name (Ian Jefferies) and Cadwell Park when booking your room so they know we\'re part of the same group.
I\'ve booked 11th and 12th so there\'s a relaxing drive there and back.

Off topic a little but i need some sticky rubber on my car for this so anyone know where i can get 4 Federal 595 RSR\'s from ?
Have a chat with Neil, he knows the Distributor in Wigan.
Shaun
Or give Nick Dougill a call and see if he can supply the Feds. 07818 003267 or nick.dougill at mazdaontrack dot co dot uk. Price has gone up since I bought mine, so if you can get less than £150 a corner for the 235/40/18 it would be good. That\'s the closest match to OEM rolling diameter available and the ones I\'ve used for the past 2 years.
This would have been good;
CAMSKILL (http://www.camskill.co.uk/m118b1878s1146p64175/Federal_Tyres_Trackday_Track_Day_Federal_595RSR_Federal_595_RSR_-_235_40_R_18_91W_TL_/RS_GB)
...but only showing ONE left. Good price though!!
Cheers :)

Don\'t worry. If you turn up there are plenty of us that will take you out in the passenger seat !
Shaun
The price for the event has now gone up to £139 and the discount code has expired.
Well done to all those who have already signed up :D
Ian.
Started fitting my brake bias gauges into the car and had some issues getting the brakes bled properly. Started trying again today and found my Atomic Rex Pedal Box has started to split apart at the master cylinders :2Mad
I need to get the full assembly out and remake the box with thicker gauge steel. Not at all happy about it.
So....... is there anybody looking for a ticket, willing to sell at the discounted rate.
Going to email Javalin to see if they can give me a refund too.
Not a happy bunny at the minute........
Shaun
:2eek:2eek Terrible news Shaun. From what you say I guess you\'ve got no chance of getting it fixed in time for Cadwell :(?
Terrible news Shaun.
I know it may mean doing the job twice, but can the current crack be weld repaired and then the box remade in thick gauge material as a winter project ?
It will be a real shame if you cannot make Cadwell.
Chris
Thats bad news mate, it wouldnt be the same without you
Damn not the best of news for ya Shawn.
As Chris says can ya not weld it up in situe for now ?
I\'m looking at trying to get it sorted this week. Got the ball rolling about cancelling the trackday and hotel :(
I don\'t want to chance fixing it and having serious issues.
Shaun
Cars Fixed :D Took all bloomin week. Patched and beefed box up and refit in car. Feels much better now.
Cya Tuesday Night, only leaving Blackpool at 4:30pm (Work) so may get some Tea on the way.
Shaun
Great news Shaun :driving
Looks like we\'ll see you in the bar then!
Brilliant news Shaun, see you at the bar.
Chris
Steve, Jim,
What time are you setting off on Tuesday and are you travelling together ?
Chris
Good news Shaun. Glad you\'ve got sorted.
Ade
Glad you got sorted shaun, good job you found the problem before hand.
Steve - bit late i guess but if you are still after federals give james at service and sport a ring on 01942 218498 as he always has a good stock in.
Neil

All sorted for the next few track days but after that ill give him a ring :)
Thanks for a great day.
The weather wasn\'t kind in the afternoon but the morning was fantastic :D The weather on the drive back down the M180 was terrible, really heavy rain and massive standing water !
Got back at 7pm with a chippy tea :D
Cheers again to everybody as always. See you at the next one !
Shaun
Thanks for a great day at Cadwell.
Managed to get three very good runs in during the morning sessions, glad I did as the afternoon was wet and my FD and wet tracks do not mix well.
Seemed like there were a lot of smiling faces from the MRC & RX8 members after each session, so I can assume everyone else enjoyed themselves too.
Felt a little sorry for the guy with the new Lotus who stuffed it in to the barriers.
Like Shaun, the drive home was dreadful due to the torrential rain and standing water.
See some of you at Jap show Final at the end of September.
Chris
Good to hear you had a great day :Thumbs-up (or a great morning at the very least :2Rolleyes )
Really hope I can make it back to Cadwell sometime next year.
Ian.
Thanks to Ian (Hypo) for organising this outing for us all.
I had 4 solid runs in the morning and went out 2 or 3 times in the afternoon, just to see what it was like! In the early pm session it was damp and grip was pretty good. Later, as it poured down, there was a lot of DSC intervention, esp at "Park", off the main uphill straight. I just love the RX-8 DSC in these conditions as a safety net :) I would never have taken a well cared for FD out there in the wet, so I think Chris and Shaun made absolutely the right decision, especially as we all witnessed the Lotus Evora excursion and the sad result of its argument with the armco:(
All in all, another very successful and thoroughly enjoyable outing.
When\'s the next one?.......:) Well, there will definitely be the "traditional" December outing to Brands Hatch; I\'ll post up some details later, but booking is already available via the Mazda on Track website. We may also possibly squeeze in another one in before then, if people pester me enough with suggestions....
Once again i enjoyed it so much that im still grinning.
I got at least 4 runs out in the morning then while spectating and making my mind up weather to go out again in the early afternoon we witnessed several cars almost loos it in the rain and then the lotus trying to pick a fight with some armco, sadly the armco won.
So i decided to see how slippy it really was out there :), To say the least i was astounded how much grip i had in the wet  so i had my longest session of the day in the rain with hardly any cars on track :Laugh, BTH i didnt want to come in but i thought id better give the car a rest :o
I certainly wont heitate driving round a track in the wet again.
Thanks Ian for organising this and roll on the next one and count me in the december Brans hatch one :Laugh
I look forward to seeing you again at Brands Steve :Thumbs-up
Just for reference puposes :):Laugh I had a quick look through my in-car video and had these laptimes (all S/F line times);
Dry; best 1.56s (OK, nothing stunning, have done better on previous trips)
Damp; best 2.02s, quite pleased with that
Wet (standing water); 2.20, 2.21, 2.22, 2.23 quite pleased with the consistency, if nothing else!
Any videos ?? Mine didn\'t quite work, shows me switching it on and sticking it down then switching off !
Shaun
You asked....:Laugh
Video of a couple of laps using my old low res camera.... Hypothermia in the passenger seat;
CLICK on the GEARWHEEL and select 1080 HD to get slightly better quality
Lovely and smooth !
Any of the drive by ??
Shaun
:) Thankyou Shaun, what you didn\'t see was the DSC going wild at 2 or 3 places when it thought I was having too much fun :Laugh
I\'ve looked through my video and can\'t see any of you coming past. Either you weren\'t driving quick enough or, (much!) more plausibly, you weren\'t on track at the same time as me.
I did see you come past me at some point in the day, but I think I was a passenger with someone else at the time, so not on my camera.
Do you have any of me coming past you ? :Giggle :rollin
I\'ve got some of you driving past me in the pit area Steve ;):D
Must have been Ian then !
Shaun
Quote from: Casey;835786I\'ve got some of you driving past me in the pit area Steve ;):D
I almost took you when you were on your cooldown lap :cool
^^:Laugh:Laugh:Laugh.............
Had a great day ,thanks again Ian for sorting it out .Ian should have some good video of me in the wet he was toying with me and wouldn\'t go past ,I think he was enjoying him self watching me making a hash of it
:Hammer
Roll on the next outing
:driving
Sorry I had it run off after but it was a good thing I did ,I didn\'t get finished at work till after five in the morning as it was
Sorry Jim - I would have loved to have some video recorded of that but my batteries had all died by that point, so I\'ve only got morning sessions and the drive down to the petrol station :(
Still it was fun watching the semi-slicks try and work on more water then they\'re capable of handling. And the driver having fun while doing it :Thumbs-up
A big thank you to everyone who managed to get on to the day - I didn\'t think that Cadwell was going to be popular on a Wednesday and you all proved me wrong! Absolutely brilliant and we\'re going to have to go back again next year...
Ian.
Some highlights from the video:
@4:15 Completely the wrong line and wrong gear through Hall Bends. The RX8 doesn\'t quite have the right gear ratios for Cadwell and there are several places where you\'re holding on the rev limiter rather than change up into the next gear. That may change with semi-slick tyres rather than the road tyres that I\'m using.
@7:15: chasing down an Audio S4 (B5 variant). If you ever want to see the difference between torque and handling in the corners then this is probably it. The Audi has around 260 bhp to the RX8\'s 230bhp and you can see the gap opened up on the straights where the turbo on the Audi kicks in. For 3/4 of a lap I\'m chasing until some heavy braking in Charlies and the advantage is kindly conceded.
@10:45 Forgot to turn in on the corner (oops!) after focusing too much on the gear change down to 3rd.
@14:15 The kit car that overtook in the inside of Mansfield corner was spilling fuel onto its exhaust. While the overtake was technically outside the rules of the day (no overtaking within the corners) this wasn\'t an issue due to the track positioning and the relative capabilities of the two cars.

Great vids Ian :D
Jim ya a mad man in the wet
Very good videos :D I noticed I said I got 2 good sessions, but I was out for just over 30mins per session and everything was running very well. My tires where starting to turn into chewing gum but I could have got quite a few more laps in !
Shaun
Hi Guys,
I have some footage of Steve (briefly) and Shaun, but not sure how to load on here. Its saved in windows movie maker, any ideas ?
Thanks
Chris
An upload onto YouTube will do the job, they take most formats (you\'ll need an account) and the vid can be added to the forum once its on there.
Cheers,
Ian.
Chris, if you use Windows Live Movie Maker (free download available) then you can easily import your videos, do simple edits and upload DIRECTLY to youtube from within the program. It\'s what I do, as it\'s the easiest and quickest way of publishing video onto the internet. If you need any detailed advice just let me know and I\'ll gladly help out.

Excellent bit of video Chris, well done for getting there in the end :Thumbs-up Hope you are OK with me embedding it in your post above.
I think that\'s N1xon you\'ve got in there too in the grey RX-8, so you\'ve done a good job to capture a lot of "rear ends" :)
Amazing to see how your car just effortlessly accelerates on the straights :cool
Are you going to post the video up on the RX8OC as not all the guys are on here? Or would you be happy for me to post it over there on your behalf?
nice video Chris, thats one quick car you have there, I have some footage myself from the afternoon that i will have to post, just need to edit it a lot as it is 25mins long, I know 25mins to get round :Hammer
jim
Awesome Video :D
Mine looks really stable through the corners as well. Just need to get some clear runs............ Those darn scoobies !
