Hey guys, just fitted these babies, just wondered if it would be a problem to block off that hole in front of the intercooler where the stock air filter gets its air bith a piece of aluminium or something. I am looking for ideas for the best way to block it off really.
Hi
Have you considered where you are going to get that loverly cold air from, your nice new filters are sitting directly above the radiator - which is BLASTING hot air at your filters, not very good for intake temps - sure you will get the nice intake sounds..............................not much else though:rolleyes:
Yeah, unless I find a custom fibreglass/carbon thing to do the job I was going to get a box fabricated from aluminium tread plate with cold air ducting.
I reckon the best way to block this hole is with aluminium tread plate with foam on the back to provide a seal either screwed or rivited on top. I just wanted to know if anyone knew of any problems doing this might create.
I didnt think the 2" by 1" hole in the bottom of the air box thing at the front of the engine would provide enough/any cold air for the filters anyway. I also reckoned that if all the cold air from the front duct went to the intercooler alone instead of the intercooler and the airbox this would provide better cooling for the intercooler at the same time.
That setup doesnt look quite right to me. the pipe comming from the air pump should go to a small filter that gets mounted to the plastic pannel that used to sit at the front and there should be another pipe comming from the back somewhere to attach to the first filter instead of the one from the air pump. please correct me if im wrong.
No you are correc, this is slightly different to the normal setup. I dontreally know ifit is ok but I have connected the air pump to the outlet on one of the flters and the one that comes from the back I have connected to the hks baffle and that leads to the pipe that is normally on the right of the std airbox, I dont know what the pipe from the back of the engine is ? I dont know if anyone can shed light on this.
The feed to the air pump normally goes to an adapter which you screw on to the air transfer box in front of the intercooler. The pipe from the back of the engine is supposed to go to the HKS baffle and then to the pipe at the right of the stock air filter box acording to the picture on the HKS japanese instruction manual.
I covered that hole with some strong sticking duck tape. But then again i have a vent in my front bumper that supplies air to my filter.
