Thought I would share with everyone whats has gone wrong with my car this weekend;
Plugs and leads need changing, its like driving a bucking bronco
Clutch is making a loud mechanical noise when depressed fully.
Steering is all over the shop
Great eh, on top of that my old car still isn\'t working properly so I feel like a git because my mate who bought it hasn\'t had a decent drive in it yet!
Its times like this when I feel like whats the point, you get one problem sorted then another happens.
Well at least the engine hasn\'t blown up yet, that will probably happen tomorrow.
Sounds similar to how I feel.
I havnt driven it properly since Febuary now and am verging on giving up.
Hang in there Gman!
It\'ll be worth it in the end.
I also have a long list of problems, but I know when it\'s all sorted, I\'ll have a grin from ear to ear everytime I floor it!!
It\'s a bit like golf - damn stupid game - a good walk spoilt, and all that stuff, but just hit one sweet shot that goes just where you want it to go, and you forget all about the crappy shots that plague you!!
I know how you feel Gman, sometimes I look at the car and think about how still needs doing, how much its gonna cost etc, but then on reflection I think about how far the car has come from when I first picked it up.
Problems come and go, make a list and work through \'em, I spend about 6 hours a week fixing things on mine! And thats after using up most of my holiday last year to get the thing road worthy!
Never give up people, Ive had mine nearly 4 years and still spending money on it. Mostly cosmetic stuff mind you but it\'s worth it everytime you take it out. Know any other cars that turn\'s so many heads.......not many keep spending and smiling cheers Leigh.
im sure i beat u graham!!!!!!!!:D :reallymad

Hello Gman, long time no hear.
The problem with your clutch is more than likely the thrust bearing.
Ditch your Power steering and limit the all over the shop feeling.
You persevire(sp) and hang in there, and she will pay you back one day.
Keep well,

Just about keeping well john, you?
Sorry to sound thick but what is the thrust bearing?
I am thinking of getting rid of the PS but the wheels are so wide I want to be able to turn the steering wheel! I think i need to set the suspension out of drift mode but it keeps scaring garages.
It does repay me but only when i am on a straight road!
Oh yeah one more thing is my speedo is still broke........i just have no time to do anything, need to change the bumper for my new one also before JAE.
if you get the steering sorted - let me know how you did it - mine is still pulling to the left
although i did fix the vibration ( well 80% fixed ) by re-adjusting the front wheel bearings ( they have a tendancy to come loose :( )
Mines always pulled slightly to the left too, I\'ve found that tyre pressure and shitty B roads make it worse, wheras motorway driving is usually ok.
motorways , A roads , B road - doesnt matter
point car in a straight line and let go of the wheel - you can see it turn slightly to the left and away it goes :(
Thrust bearing... In general terms it is a bearing which engages the clutch plate assembly together to give "grip". Best way to make sure it is or is´nt the problem, is to have the engine idle and depress the clutch. If you get a wirring noise, that is the bearing.
If you have a habit of waiting at lights etc, with the clutch depressed, this is the main cause of premature bearing failure.
I hope that this helps.

Does that mean new clutch? :(
No, not necessarily. It does mean box out and clutch off though. Up side is that you will be able to see the state of your clutch. I don´t know the going rate for the bearing change. Just make sure that it is the culprit, and then take her to a reputable rotary bloke.

Does it effect the performance of the car a lot? and will it finally go if I keep driving it?
It will come to a point when you can´t select gears properly. It should last a while...but how long has it been on its way out for? When it gets to this point, you will start grinding syncros.

Only for a couple of months and I hardly drive it. More money down the shitter..........great.
stupid question mode on (AKA Si\'s monopoly

) is it less potentially damaging when travelling either at very slow speeds or at a standstill at lights etc to select neutral & not use clutch at all & cruise slowly out of gear or put handbrake on? Just wondered as i\'ve been doing it more in the mondeo when stuck in traffic rather than sitting there with the clutch down but was trying to work out which would do more damage.....
Si (AKA the retarded one (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/drowned/dork.gif) lol)
Hi Graham
My turbo II had bump steer problems with stock suspension, Do you find it follows the ruts in the road quite severly? I found that a good matched set of tyres with a slightly higher ratio side wall, 45 instead of 40\'s helped a lot.
It might be worth having it 4 wheel aligned, you cant just have the front tracked as the backs may need adjusting, if you have it tracked normally, they set the front with the backs, if they are wrong then fronts will be wrong.
How many miles has it done? it may be a combination of the above and some worn out bearings, steering rack and bushes etc.
Also TII have some sort of anti camber set up on the back, you can by replacement bushes which eliminate this, it works well when its new but once worn, it gets a bit fluffy. I know tim at RX motors has fitted some in the past.
If you think your clutch may need replacing in the near future then dont replace your thrust bearing as most clutch kits come with a new one and you wont pay any fitting (come off with the old clutch) It should rattle for quite a while before wearing out completely.
Are you sure that the bucking is the plugs? It might be tuning depending on what ECU you have. If the idle control valve has been blanked off then that may cause it.

tony
Christ Tony do you have a couple of RX7 data banks in your head!
Thanks for the info,
I have fully adjustable camber suspension so I think it may still be set up in \'drift mode\'
Its done quite a few miles but i think the wheels suspension have been replaced pretty recently.
I am presuming the plugs and leads need changing as it idles very lumpy and I can here and feel a slight miss below 3000 rpm, as the idle control valve I have no idea what to look for.
I may be having the clutch looked at soon so i will soon find out. its the usual problem that there are no garages near me willing to do to much to it because its different. I don\'t even have the time to sort out the speedo.
It hasn\'t been tuned for UK use as its a fresh import thats also on my list.
Pip at WGT does a 4 wheel laser check for £70. It my seem a lot but he isn\'t \'quickfit\' he cecks everything, camber castor, the lot.
Mind you, I\'ve just noticed your in Essex ...... ooops!
I\'ll get my coat! ........ Taxi!!!(http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/auto/car-smiley-003.gif)
