Title: Yrrtum from Germany
Post by: Yrrtum on July 10, 2012, 02:03:35 PM
Hey Rotorheads,

ny name is Björn, im from NRW Germany, 32 years old and i finally got my FD last autumn. I always wanted to have a RX-7. I wanted to have a FC Turbo 2 for many years but something always went wrong... So my carcareer startet totally different:

My first car was a Civic EG5 which ended blown up to 0.65bar eventually.
After that i had a mere Civic EP2 Sport unlimited wich had an incredible low fuelconsumption (around 5.2l/60mls) but wasnt very fun to drive.

Then i got a Skyline R33 GTS-T. I liked her alot. I slammed it, but 18" on her, 400R bodykit, rebuilt engine, new turbo and so on... Until the day that someone tossed a full coan of black paint over my white beauty...

I cleaned every bit of paint, took me 40hrs of work, and i really lost interrest in the car at that time.

A few weeks earlier i heard about a black 97 FD3S that is goind to be a sole soon. I contacted the seller, we met for a testdrive and voila i bought a really nice FD3S Type RB Bathurst :)

Thats how my baby looks like, now:

Welcome mate, one piece of advise (this is coming from someone who has experienced this advice before), don\'t go with 3mm apex seals. Stay with 2mm apex seals. I have had an experience with 3mm before and trust me, it\'s not advisable. Unless and off course, if you have 3mm groved rotors already than it may be fine to go 3mm on apex seals.

Cheers

Hey Mir,

what experiences have you had wit 3mm apex seals?
i have about 1.2bar (17.4psi) of boost in mind when
everything is done and all the people here recommend
3mm seals when going over 0.9bar (13psi)...

Mate, groove cutting for apex seals and balancing rotors is a big issue. Apart from that, 3mm apex seals get rotor housings wear quickly and generally they are not ideal. I have had an experience with them, where they never broke but, wore the housings badly! Hence I bought new housings for my 20b.

Hi Mate

My input is as follows:

My Input: Yes, you would need that.
My Input: NO
My input: Yes go for a nice Street Port-Pineapple racing does a nice Street Port Template
My Input: Why a Wastegate porting? Are you staying twin turbo? if not, Contact Trind FD on here who has 55mm wastegate for sale and job done. Alternatively, if you are staying twin turbo, I have yet to see the results and hp gain by porting your wastegate:Thumbs-up
My Input: Stay away from that thing. Go for either a stock pump or a Bosch 044 in tank pump.
My Input: Why twin Plate? I think you are going for a Mild Power. A single Plate Exedy Clutch would be up for your power goals
My Input: Its entirely up to you :)
My Input: to which colour?

Please mention what are your power aims and we can work something out:Thumbs-up

- approved ^^

3mm apex seals
My Input: NO
- in consideration

some minor porting
My input: Yes go for a nice Street Port-Pineapple racing does a nice Street Port Template
- thats what my idea was

wastegate porting
My Input: Why a Wastegate porting? Are you staying twin turbo? if not, Contact Trind FD on here who has 55mm wastegate for sale and job done. Alternatively, if you are staying twin turbo, I have yet to see the results and hp gain by porting your wastegate
- the oem wastegate doesnt seem to be able to handle all the exhaustgases since i installed 2.75" turboback exhaust...

walbro fuelpump
My Input: Stay away from that thing. Go for either a stock pump or a Bosch 044 in tank pump.
- i was all fine with the walbro in my skyline so i wanted to go with it again

os giken twinplate clutch with lightend flywheel
My Input: Why twin Plate? I think you are going for a Mild Power. A single Plate Exedy Clutch would be up for your power goals
- i have one on hand for a good price and i like the idea of having a twin ;) and i testdrove one and really liked the pedalfeel

new samco fuel- and waterlines
My Input: Its entirely up to you
- kk ^^

some engineroom parts will be painted in rim color
My Input: to which colour?
- neon green (see my rims on the pics) and red (like the oem dome pillar bar)

Please mention what are your power aims and we can work something out
- my aims are roughly 320-350hp ~ 1,2-1,3bar of boost

Real sorry to hear you lost the engine on such a nice car :(,

Biggest biggest thing to add to the above is to find somebody to map/tune the car properly as it will not matter what you do to the engine if its tuned badly ,

Hope this helps

Valid Point Clive, but our man never mentioned that he wants to get involved with the Aftermarket ECU. Hence, I didn\'t mention the tune because I am sure he wouldn\'t want to send his Stock ECU to Re Amemyia or Panspeed to get it mapped and tuned :King.

But, off course, yrrtum, look into the Aftermarket ECU, contrary to famous opinion/believe, I would prefer Motec M2R over PowerFC all day long.

Cheers

*word*

but, since im far from being rich, i will get the engine built properly first and then try
to get a nice PowerFC with Commander. And im aiming to get it street tuned for all driving conditions (idle, cruising, halfthrottle, WOT) rather than dyno tuned for max power...

but it will take some time to acchieve, i just moved out from my ex gf and had to buy all the funiture and kitchen and stuff for my new home...
