Title: New owner in Upminster
Post by: SuperVM on July 09, 2012, 09:35:53 PM
After many years of wanting one and being distracted by other cars along the way, I\'ve finally gotten my first FD.  It was a bit of a surprise as I didn\'t think I\'d get it for the price I paid, so I still had my E36 M3 Evo at the time and the wife wouldn\'t let me keep both, so away the M3 went.  After some initial problems with the second turbo not spooling (solved with a replacement check valve) an oil change and some rust treatment and sealant underneath the car, it has been great.

The engine was rebuilt around 13,000 miles ago by WGT and is running a Power FC that has been mapped for 341 BHP.  I love the handling of the car and definitely the pace, though at the moment I\'m not overly enamored with the sequential turbo setup, my main problem with it is there seems to be a spot at which it is possible to get no boost from the second turbo on a downshift.  My plan for the time being is to give it a full service, new pads and discs and then start collecting the bits for a single turbo.  Some fairly rubbish pictures:

If anyone recognises the car, please give me a shout.

Wow, you really are just down the road from me!  I drive through South Ockendon fairly regularly, so you may well see the car at some point.  You\'re welcome to come over to have a chat and look over the car one evening, though I\'ll have to negotiate that with my increasingly pregnant wife.  Feel free to drop me a PM and we can sort something out.

What time is the Dartford meet?

Dartford meet is usually from about 7:30 though I have been there early the last couple of meets.
Would be good to get some 7s along too.

Rear:8.0/7.7/8.0

Pretty happy with that. :)

Happy days dude
Out of interest where did you get it done and what was the rpm it was at.
Did they normalise it to the standard 250rpm
So are you free in the evenings we have a couple of club meets through the month

Got it done by Ed (Ed RX7 Parts) and yes it was at 250 RPM.  I have pictures, but didn\'t think they were vastly interesting and they also contain my chassis number, so have to tweak them before posting.  I\'ve got a two year old and a two week old, so hardly any free time at the moment.  As part of a deal struck over the new one\'s middle name, I\'m permitted some car time in the future though. :)

I know it\'s a change of topic but I have the same problem with the second turbo not always kicking in. How hard is it to change the check valve?

It\'s not very difficult.  I removed the air intake and corresponding hoses as well as the black box (air tank).  The check valve that had gone wrong was under here and I replaced it with an aquarium valve from pets at home.  I also replaced some of the vacuum hoses and intake pipe couplers while I was at it.

I can\'t find it on their site, but I always see it in store when I go.  It\'s a blak and white non-return valve in the aquarium section.  If I\'m there again soon, I\'ll get a picture for you.

good car spares places should be able to supply you with Check valves to meet your requirements dude.
Recently fitted one on Mr Froggy\'s Brake Servo pipe after swapping out the Nasty black stuff for nice Red Samco
