Title: MRC forum and reliability
Post by: Mikey22 on July 06, 2012, 10:30:26 AM
Hey All,

I\'m just sat here at work on a wee break having my morning roll (we order hot rolls on a friday :) ) and i was pondering a little.

Im 26 nearly 27 and i\'ve had a few cars in my time. From my first car which was a T reg nissan micra to smart roadsters and clio sports. I\'ve also been apart of owners forums for pretty much all the cars i\'ve owned and i\'ve actually come to notice something.

MRC is by far the best forum ive ever been on......and i think i know why, People say that the rotary is such and unreliable engine. Perhaps thats true and perhaps its not. However i\'d like to think that it is due this this unreliability that the MRC forum is so successful.

We all feel each others pain when something goes wrong with our rotaries and we all feel each others joys when they are going good! Because of all the little hicups and niggles the rotaries have means everyone is there to help. If it wasnt for all the problems then this community wouldnt be so close.

I mean can you imagine the honda forum?.....hey is there anything wrong with your honda?....nope nothing wrong with my honda what about yours? bit of a stupid question really we mock those who have problems with their cars :rollin

I\'ve used honda as an example due to my brother owning a honda civic type S and everytime we walk past those AA or RAC guys for breakdown cover he says to them \'no thanks mate i own a honda!\' as if its never gonna break down ever! lol

I remember being on the Smart forum and the biggest discussion on there was about who owned their car outright! i mean it was just snobs wanting to be above everyone else! I felt like an outcast just cos i had my car on finance :Nono!

But not on here! here everyone is in the same boat, Most on here would go out of their way to help another rotary owner no matter who they were or where.

Thats just what i think anyways so this is me saying :cheers to MRC and all its members.

Wishing you all happy :3gears-rh:burnout:Thumbsup!

Mike

I thought this was a post about the reliability of the forum Mike! :Giggle

Thanks for the comments and I think you are right - we\'re a real community. I have to say that a lot of that is down to Clive and Lisa, this isn\'t just a hobby for them it\'s a life long commitment / obsession ;)  They welcome everyone - if you\'re new and you turn up to an event they will go out of their way to introduce themselves and take a real interest in you and your car. A lot of clubs of all types can make you feel like a real outsider until you \'accepted\' and that\'s not the case with MRC. :Thumbs-up

Reliability with the forum? never! :p

Its just really weird the way things work. I spent £7k on my first smart car £12 on my second and £15K on my clio sport 200 and less than £2K on my rx7 and its the rx7 (MRC) forum that has the best people on it!

The renault forums were just full of people fighting over the types of cars (e.g Clio 197 owners usually hated the clio 200 and the 200 owners hated the 197)

It was petty, But on here if you have an RX4 RX6 RX7 or RX8 FC/FD it dont matter. Everyones interested and its just good banter!

Many discussions on here about the supposed reliability of the rotary and perhaps your right as thats why there is a good spirit between us rotor heads, because we know its not really true! Or should i say, no more unreliable than any other tuned car!

I picked up a Mitsubishi Evo5 steering wheel last night for my daily (a rvr) and the guy had just bought an Evo5, the previous owner had gone through 3 engines in 5000 miles and it was pretty much standard :)

I\'ve said it before and i\'ll say it again, we are a strange little mixed up family which has its ups and downs from time to time but when the chips are down there\'s always someone there to help pick you up and offer advice and help.
Yes these car do have their problems and if you haven\'t had one... just wait 5 minutes, but without them i feel we\'d never be a strong or passionate about them and in a way it brings us all together. You have to have the lows to appraciate the highs.
Mikey, you mention the Honda guys that never have breakdowns or issues. What do they actually talk about then other than buying and selling parts and meeting up to say their car is still working!?! Where\'s the fun in that? Its helping each other out that gets us all involved and builds the friendships that are so tight.

Adam

Ada7 this is what i mean. It must be so dull and mundane! Yey everyones car works! boohoo!.....lets have some good old fashion breakdowns then people can offer hints tips and where ever possible cheats! (oh waits its not the PS3 is it?)

Its like saying....i went for a really nice drive today........but nothing happened. Everything worked....we got there safely.

Where as on here it would be like.....went for a drive today!...it was magical!...i broke down half way round!...i didnt know what to do! then by some magical mischief John came racing round the corner in his FD saw me in trouble and pulled over! We then fixed my car!....In the rain!......eating burgers!!!......then we went for pints and laughed at all the drifting we did on the way to the pub!

Now thats a story!

(i would like to point out that this story is entirely fictional and any resemblence to people or events is completely coincidental :p )

Excellent thread Mike :Thumbs-up, shows us how the other half live :o

Your right owning a Rotary can be akin to thrashing your back with stinging nettles at times, especially if your trying to extract huge amounts of horsepower from the poor little Rotary "but" many many people find Rotary Power very addictive and revel in owning and driving somthing that is different to the norm.

As recently as yesterday the biggest problem we always have is that people are scared stiff of the "unknown" rotary which along with helping peoples ownership of Mazda Rotarys are the two foundations which brought the club into being some ten years ago :driving

i have to admit though , your right about us all pulling together

there are times when we all moan at each other and everything kicks off - but as soon as someone is in trouble with their car , there are usually offers on the table of assistance ( free parts , people time and assistance etc... )

i can remember being at rotorstock and im sure someone blew a diff , you couldnt get near the car for that many people wanting to help ..

to me that shows the forum spirit / and real in real life :D :D

I have made some really good friends on here .. and i cant say that about any other forum i frequent ( yes there are others ;) )

Currently my rotary is proving more reliable than my daily, although it\'s not always the case.  Nonetheless, it\'s a great club!

Great club and in all honesty I\'ve never had a more reliable car, far more reliable than any of my previous Hondas , vti type r etc.

It\'s as clive says most are too frightened to see what the rotary fuss is all about and that keeps them rare. In my eyes it\'s worth it.

I think this is a great Club :yes & it is true that we help each other out when needed too :cool

I have to thank Clive publicly for his foresight of saying that my Diff Oil should be replaced on the third service & it then turned out I needed a New Limited Slip Diff & it was shere luck that the R3 was still under Warranty, otherwise would of been stuck with a 3.5k bill :(

I am now on my second rotary :yes & was a time that wasn\'t going to renew my Membership,as I had sold my first RX-8  ,but am glad I didn\'t & am still a fully paid up member :D & now on my second RX-8 R3 & still also have the MPS,just to remind me how good the Rotary Engine is :D

Roll on Rotorstockkkkkkkkkkkkk :cheers
