Well.... I thought I\'d start a thread now that I\'m signed up for the double header round of Time Attack this year at Anglesey. I\'d never actually driven the circuit before when I sent in the form so have since done a couple of trackdays there, one in the pouring rain and one in the dry last sunday. As they are running international for the Saturday round and Coastal for the Sunday round I\'ve done one of each. Times are looking pretty good and improving nicely although it\'s hard to judge a baseline as TA haven\'t competed on the international circuit before and last year they were on pirelli road tyres rather than semi-slicks and when I did the Coastal track it was wet. I\'ll hopefully get one more day in there before the rounds on 11th/12th August. Below is a vid of three clear laps I got on Sunday as I managed to get out when everyone must have been having a brew!
http://youtu.be/iyGx8osk2L0
I\'ve still a few bits to get sorted on the car, mostly to meet the regs and a couple of niggles that have surfaced but having just put on a splitter I\'m looking to make a diffuser next if I have time. Also I need to get the rest of the vinyl finished as I\'ve put the TA mandatory stuff on but I need to put the car number on (55 in honour of a certain other 1991 rotary racer :D) and the logos for my main sponsor. Here\'s how its looking now.
The idea is to do the two rounds to learn how it all works, understand if anything needs sorting over winter and then look to get a couple more sponsors and do the whole season next year. Fingers crossed it all goes well!
Looks like a lot of fun mate. Maybe one day I\'ll be able to join in the fun with you :)
Ade
You thinking of coming down mate? We\'ll be camping sat night so it should be a good weekend. Btw give me a shout when you want to change your rack and I\'ll come over.
Neil - great stuff, car seems to be going well from the vid you posted. Keep us posted on progress in TA. Shame it\'s such a bloomin\' long way from Colchester else I\'d come and watch!
Good luck Neil, I wish you well, keep us all posted :Thumbs-up
Awesome news, camping you say....................
Shaun
Looks and sounds great mate, well done, keep us posted on how you get on :)
looks like fun, whats the setup of the car?
Cheers
I fully expected to click this and see and FD - Good on you for using an FC man, best of luck!
That looks great Neil, nice to see the car is running well let me know when you are on track and I will try to turn up to watch.
Thanks for the comments guys :) I intend to keep the thread up to date with what\'s going on.
Shaun if you come camping it gives you good opportunity to get that stove of yours out for its annual airing and make us all a brew ;)
Anyone that comes along feel free to come and say hi, if I\'m lying under the car looking stressed then you can always grab some tools and get stuck in :D
I\'ve another vid from the first TD at Anglesey when it was wet and there was a lot of traffic, as it was a norlog day it was full of elise/exige\'s. Its here: http://youtu.be/9lWeMyhnbhU
PS Festa - I\'ll put a decent spec up soon when I get time to type something up.
Brilliant Stuff Neil!
Best of luck this season. Might just get me interested in Time Attack!
Well I was back at Anglesey yesterday for a cheeky last minute practice but the seal on the water pump went just after lunch depositing all my coolant on track. I came into the pits to find there was virtually no coolant left so it was back on the trailer and home. Luckily it looks like the engine should be ok, fingers crossed.
The morning was pretty good but there were a lot of cars out and I didn\'t get any clear running so didn\'t improve my times much, good practice though.
Pic from the morning:

Sorry to hear that mate, the new paint job looks good on track hope the engine is ok and good luck for the proper run.
Fingers crossed its all good ! Looking very nice !
Shaun
Do you have a build thread for the car?
What is your exhaust setup?
So, disappointigly it turns out that the water pump problem was either caused by or cause water seal failure therefore i wont be at anglesey after all. Engine is now off to WGT for a rebuild to be ready for snetterton in september. Bit gutted for it to happen just a week before Anglesey but theres never a good time I guess.
Also I dug out and updated the car spec as follows:

Ahhhhhhhhhh gutted for you mate. Like you say never a good time for this to happen but
it could be worse it could have thrown a tip. Glass half full and all that :)
Ade
So sorry to hear about that Neil :(
I was looking forward to hearing how you got on at Anglesey.
As above, get some porting done whilst the rebuild is being done maybe :D
Gutted for you mate. was going to pop down and watch you at Anglesey hope you will have it all sorted soon.
Yeah it could of been worse, mind you I\'m not discounting the possibility of more damage until it\'s opened up.
It\'s already got some big bridge ports so more porting isn\'t really on the cards. I\'m generally running 1bar on track giving me around 530bhp but I may have a slightly higher boost map added for those 1 off flying laps. I certainly think the car can put down a bit more power in the dry but am less confident that the gearbox can take it.
Snetterton is a long way for us northern lot but hopefully the engine will be done in time for a trackday there before the TA weekend.
When you get to Snett or Brands just let me know as they are both easy for me tog et to. Would like to see you and the car on track :Thumbs-up
Will do, welcome to a ride out if we\'re there for a trackday too.
Got the engine apart last weekend and it turned out that the rotor housings have warped due to the heat. The new ones arrived mid week but need to go for machining to put the dowels in. Should know from Pip on Monday when it will be ready but it\'s going to need some running in and isn\'t road legal so the clocks ticking for Snetterton.
Anyone with trade plates fancy some noisey and uncomfortable trips up and down the m6?? :rollin
Is there no trackdays between it and this, could run round track all day clocking the miles up !
Shaun
That\'s probably what it will have to be, good lesson in carrying speed going round with half revs haha. It doesn\'t help that I\'m away with work the week before so I only have 3 weeks from now to get everything ready.
I bet there are plenty of people willing to bed it in for you :Giggle
Shaun
Engine is back in and run but showed up a leak in the rad so thats out for repair but I\'m planning to be at oulton on fri for its run in before pip does the final map. I\'m now signed up to be competing on Sunday 23rd Sept at snetterton and will be there the fri before to practice since i\'ve never driven there before. Hopefully a day will get me familiar enough to do ok on the sunday.
Good news :D
Shaun
Yeah nice one mate. Hope it all goes well.
Ade
Excellent news! You\'ve love Snetterton I\'m sure. As a "veteran" ;):Laugh of 2 trackdays there myself I shall most certainly be going back regularly.
I asume it\'s the full "300" circuit you are driving and not one of the shorter 100 or 200 variants?
Neil, I\'m flying back into the UK on Sat, 22nd Sept so I will try and make it along on the Sunday if all goes well. Is there any form of timetable for the Sunday? Is there any charge for spectators, or is it a bit like a trackday, just turn up and wander around - I\'ve no idea as I\'ve never been to one of these days before :)
Snetterton on the 23rd? I think I shall go watch that! According to the Time Attack site, they\'re using the 300 circuit on the 22nd and the 200 circuit (like the old Snetterton only a bit different) on the Sunday.
Glad to hear you have got the beast running again good luck on the 23rd hope it all goes well mate.
Well no news on the rad yet, so wont be at oulton today, time to think of a plan b. Hopefully will be able to sort something during the week.
For snetterton there will be a timetable but doesnt look like its released yet, when it is it should come up on the time attack website but also the modified live site www.modifiedlive.co.uk (http://www.modifiedlive.co.uk)
There\'s a ticket price for the show, £17 in advance or £22 on the gate.
Paul Buckmaster as Myself (both Fds3)have entered on Sunday, I will be @ Brands racing in a Semsec event on Saturday, going up Saturday night , all welcome visit us in Pit Garage 1 on Sunday.
I\'m in garage 3 so will pop next door and say hi lol. For me there\'s good news and bad news. Good news is I will be there and taking part, bad news is the engine isnt fully run in and hence I will be at limited revs and only 0.6bar of boost. Not ideal with Snetterton favouring power but better than having to pull out again!
Sorry I wasn\'t able to make it over to Snetterton guys. We only got home at midnight from our flight and drive back from Gatwick. Too tired on the Sunday to do much!
How did it go? If you were driving in the morning I\'m guessing it was dry. If later in the day it would\'ve been very wet?
It was a good day for us, we had 2 sessions in the morning which was warm up and practice in the dry then qualifying and the final in the wet. It started raining just before we went out for qualifying and they ended up red flagging the session and restarting it once everyone had wets on under yellows for a couple of laps.
Given the boost restrictions I was quite pleased as I finished 14th overall out of 22 runners in club including 3 retirements and was 4th in the rwd class. I was off 3rd place by a couple of seconds which was Umar in his FD but I\'m happy with that for a first run and never having driven Snetterton berore. Was good to get a feel for how they run the day too. Now I can\'t wait for next years season to start!
:Thumbs-up Sounds like an excellent result, especially under the circumstances. Keep us posted on when you are next running - I\'ll try to get along to any track within a reasonable distance from Colchester to watch.
I went to Snet on Saturday, saw the FC on a trailer, couldn\'t make Sunday due to work.
Well done mate sounds like you had a good weekend it\'s to see the FC is running great again and the quick chat at Pip\'s.
Will come and watch you next year when you are on track when near by.
Oh yes, just say when your at Oulton and we will make a NW members meet :D
Shaun

She\'s looking good Niel
Looks really great mate shame about the weather but that\'s the story of this year.
I\'m now officially signed up for the full season this year so fingers crossed that it all goes to plan. Biggest worry at the moment is whether I can get the car quiet enough to compete at Donnigton although they haven\'t confirmed what the noise limit will be yet.
The schedule is pretty good for me this year, although I\'ve only driven half of the tracks before only 2 of them are far enough away to need an over night stay. So I\'ll be able to do Cadwell, Oulton, Donnigton and Croft there and back on the same day which makes life a bit easier.
Dates are:
Round 1 – 1st April, Cadwell Park
Round 2 – 11th May, Croft
Round 3 – 9th June, Snetterton
Round 4 – 20th July, Oulton Park
Round 5 (Pro class) – 8th September, Silverstone
Round 5 (Club class) – 14th September, Donington
Round 6 – 29th September, Brands Hatch
Awesome news :D Will be at Oulton for sure :D
Shaun
I\'ll be at Snetterton.
Nice one sounds like it\'s going to be great fun :Thumbs-up
Will be at Oulton to give you some support. :Thumbsup!
So... first round of the season on monday at cadwell. I\'ve had exactly no running since Snetterton which is less than ideal but between bad weather and work commitments it just hasnt been possible. Just finished fitting a new set of ap 4 pots to the front with ds3000 pads so I\'ll have to bed them in during the warm up session. Other than that i\'ve only added a stiffer rear arb. If anybody is heading down to watch we have a marquee the car will be in so come and say hello, it actually looks like its going to be dry!
Won\'t be able to make it to this one Neil, but good luck on Monday; hope to see you at another round later in the year :driving
Hope all goes well. Can\'t make this one but want to get to Oulton for sure !
Enjoy :D
Shaun
Good luck mate hope it all goes well for you on Monday.
Monday went well, despite it being very cold the track was dry all day and once you got some temperatures in the tyres the grip really wasn\'t too bad. I found I had to keep up thye pace to keep the temps up though so the sessions were pretty flat out.
In the morning sessions I was really just re-learning the track and getting the brakes bedded in. Come qualifying I built up the pace and managed 3rd in class. For the final I struggled with traffic and only managed a couple of decent laps and didn\'t improve on my qualifying pace and finished in 4th therefore missing out on the podium.
Because of the way the points work for qual and final I\'m currently tied for third place in the championship so not a bad start to the season. I suspect Croft wont be the best for me having never been and not being able to get a trackday in before hand. Lots of time on youtube watching videos I think! You do drop your lowest scoring round but ideally I\'ll keep that incase I have any DNF\'s.

...and an onborad vid of my last lap in the final:
http://youtu.be/JD-uPJc8TYw
Well done Neil, that\'s a none to shabby start to the season :Thumbsup!
Enjoyed the video; nice smooth lap which I made a 1m45s? For reference, the best I\'ve done at Cadwell in my RX-8 is 1m55s, so a massive 10 seconds faster :god
Are you in the same class ass umar??
Awesome result. Looks fantastic bit ok kit to really enjoy :D
Looking forward to seeing this run at a trackday too !
Shaun
Good job. Good vid. :)
I just loved when she comes to full boost and goes whaaaam!!! Goes like grazy :p Awesome track weapon...
I`m very gealous to you guys. Every track there has awesome layout. Height differences and so on... :)
Well done mate that\'s great for your first outing can\'t wait to watch you at oulton.
Thanks guys! Yes same class as Umar who took 1st in both qual and the final followed by Ronnie who took 2nd in both.
That lap was a 1:45.0, my best on the day was 1:44.7 but even given the cold weather I reckon I had at least a mid 1:43 given a bit more running as I was knocking time out quite consistently as I got used to the amount of grip. The hardest thing was locking up under braking as it was very easy to do but luckily it wasn\'t hurting the tyres as much as it usually would on a warmer day so it wasn\'t a disaster. Still very pleased to have come away with some decent points in the bag!
Looking good Neil!
Top work, well done and great to see more rotary presence out there, attacking the tarmac :Thumbs-up:3gears-rh
I\'m in urgent need of a new set of coilovers or just a pair of fronts if necesary. I need them to compete st croft in two weeks as one of mine has had it. If anyone knows of any let me know, i\'ll consider anything just now but something good would be a bonus :-)
Picked the car up from wgt today fresh with some shiny new coilovers and a new gearbox ready for the journey down to snetterton tomorrow for time attack on sunday. Anybody coming down we\'re in garage 21 so feel free to drop by. Time to make up for missing Croft!
All the best luck, go get them :D
When are you doing Oulton ?
Shaun
Good luck on Sunday Neil. Sorry I can\'t make it as we will are leaving the UK on holiday tomorrow! What bad timing, as Snett is just a hour up the road and the weather forecast looks great. I\'d have come up to see you and taken my camera too!
:)
Good luck you should have a great day in the sun
Dam it Neil. I\'ve just driven back from Great Yarmouth today. If I\'d have known I\'d have called in. Oh well next time mate. Good luck.
Ade
How did you get on mate hope it all went well for you.
Snetterton seemed to be the only bit of the country that wasnt warm yesterday but that said it was pretty perfect for engine temps (not to mention driver temps!). I had vibration on the brakes all day which was helped by tighteneing the wheel bearings a little but never really went away, that combined with being pulled for noise due to the exhaust splitting meant a busy day in the pits. I made it out for all the sessions though and steadily got quicker, i finished second in qual and third in the final so getting my first podium! Also some pretty good points for the championship but i\'m just waiting on the update to see where that leaves me.
All in a great day, I\'ll look to put up some video and pics when i get that all sorted. It was good to meet you Carl and i\'ll hopefully see you at another round too.
ps shaun oulton is next up, 20th july i think
I saw your qualifying session, the car looked good.
Great news on the podium mate well done. Oulton is on the 20th July and I will be there to cheer you on and help in the pits where needed.
:Thumbsup!
Outstanding result :D
Shaun
Nice to meet you too Neil,
The car looked very good up the pit straight when I was on the pit wall!
Glad you got the back box sorted!
Congrats Neil, keep up the good work :)
Many congrats on the podium Neil, especially as you had some issues on the day to resolve :Thumbsup!
Sorry I missed seeing you due to being out of the UK!
Is there another round later in the year at a track in the "south"?
So we\'re at Oulton Saturday for what is looking to be a scorching day, think all the tape will be of the rad for this one! I\'m hopeful for a bit of home circuit advantage although Darron in the vx220 is also from these parts so we\'ll see. We\'re in garage 26 this time for anyone coming down that wants to come by. Fingers crossed I\'ll be spraying the champagne again lol!

Going to try and be there, will make sure I pop in and say hi !
Shaun
Good luck on Saturday :3gears-rh
Do they no longer have the EDC running at the TA events?
Not this year, the drift content at TA events is meagre.
They\'ve replaced it with the civic cup, dunno if that\'s any better
It\'s a lot of VTEC noise, that\'s for sure. Time Attack is a good watch though, I went to the Snetterton round this year and from the top of one of the bankings you can pretty much see the whole track. There are some quick machines out there, particularly in the Pro classes.
Did you find out what the fault was ?
Shaun
No not yet, comoression test is next on the list :-( Fingers crossed its good and we\'re hunting for something else
Fingers crossed.
as above mate will keep everything crossed.
Hope all is well with the issue Neil,
I hope to be at Donnington so look forward to seeing you and your car there too! Might be 5 rotary cars there if you can make it too!
All the best mate!
Good news is that after basically retiring from oulton when the engine developed a serious misfire during practice the car is now sorted and running again ready for Donnington. There are a few other more minor repairs to do in the next two weeks but hopefully they wont be an issue. I\'ve never been to donnington so it will be a case of doing my best to learn it in the first two sessions as there are no trackdays I can do between now and then.
Good news man.Fingers crossed for a better round this time for you.
Ade
Thanks bud, hoping for a smooth round mechanically so I can focus on figuring out how to get round the track lol!
Clockwise for a start!
What was up with it in the end then?
Wrong way round then, maybe plenty of people will have to re-learn the circuit !
Shaun
Have you resolved the suspension feel as well, you where not getting used to the balance of the car on the new coilovers at Oulton ?
Shaun
Glad you have got it sorted mate what was it in the end? Good luck for Donnington I\'m sure you quickly lean the circuit.
Quote from: shaunwil;863889Wrong way round then, maybe plenty of people will have to re-learn the circuit !
Shaun
I\'m sure Donnington is clockwise. In fact i\'m certain it is thinking about it. Not that I\'ve actually driven it. The FC ain\'t allowed on there cause its too noisy!
Ade
Oops, First Corner is a Right thinking about it :Giggle
Doh !
Shaun
It was the map sensor on its way out so it was screwing up the fueling, with the laptop plugged in it was reading ok though which was confusing.
I have the same noise issue with Donnington and am hoping they are a bit more relaxed for TA but I have an extra silencer if I need it.
I think donnington is one of the tracks on Grid so I might have to dig that out, all the best drivers learn the tracks from games.... honest!
Donnington is definitely clockwise. Lots of right handers, big elevation change and very fast. It\'s a lot of fun in the RX8. Watch out for the camber on the fist left hander (Craner Curves?) it gave me a brown trousers moment when the back stepped out under power at 90mph.
hi neil r u still interested in my std rear fc spoiler? cheers mick 07894 707535
Good luck tomorrow at Brands Hatch Neil :chat
I was planning to come along, until my son texted me this morning to ask me to come with him to view a used Audi A1 with him tomorrow. He\'s put a deposit on it at a local dealer and expects to buy it tomorrow (with dad\'s help :Laugh) if it checks out. So, sorry not to be able to be there to see the last round. I hope someone else can get along to take some pics and video.
It seems the Noble has got the Club RWD class sewn up, but it seems neck and neck between you and Umar in his FD for runner-up. Great to see two RX-7\'s doing well, and no disgrace to be lagging the Noble!
Again, good luck and let us have a "race report" later!
I was at Brands on Sunday and watched the FC run, looked good out there! Great to see rotaries competing.
Does someone have vids from that event?
I do believe Neil came second in his class and umar in an FD finished third for the season :)
