Title: FD coolant temp on an Fd
Post by: boosted on July 03, 2012, 03:19:45 PM
At what point would cause concern on an FD with an apexi Fc Monitoring Coolant temps?
Knock ?

I have another track day soon and saw some 100+ temps on the Apexi in monitor mode last time so have boxed in my rad  (50mm alloy)......however i have a frikin great front mount blocking it!
On road due to traffic and not driving anywhere near like i drive on track max ive seen is 88 deg C.

Thanks:chat

I would get an oil temp gauge fitted, with an uprated radiator there is a lot of water to heat up before it registers any extra temp even though the engine might be overheating. If you have an oil temp gauge which is in direct contact with the engine you will get a more accurate reading :) just an idea.

Yes much better idea ...Ive got an old Tims unit and sender in the garage. Doing an airfield circuit soon and whilst she is 88 and never moves on the road i\'ll fashion it up and see what temp the oil is. Stock gauge is rubbish.

Hi,
If it helps, I have a Fluidyne Ali Radiator with twin fans and a massive front mount.
General running about in traffic, water temp is around 80-85, if stopped for a while with engine running temp goes to 88 when fans turn on, couple of secs and temp is back to 80.

On track, I generally see same temps as above.

I do have oil pressure and temp gauges. Oil is usually about 125 deg C when moving and slowly moves up. Max oil temp I\'ve seen was 160 stuck for a long time in traffic.
Obviously the oil pressure drops as the temp gets higher. Generally when engine has been running for a while pressure is around 50 psi (i think, cannot remember calibration on gauge). Worse pressure when engine is worked hard, or stuck in traffic it stays around 30.

I watch and monitor, water temp, air inlet temp, oil temp and pressure all the time when using the FD.

I have a full splitter, back to the front subframe, but the front nose has large air intakes for Intercooler and Oil coolers. I have resisted boxing in the oil coolers, (but that\'s just my personal preference). But I have cut away the wheel liners at the back of the oil coolers and fitted wire mesh.
My idea was to allow hot air thru\' the cooler and in to the wheel area without forcing it up and over the wheel arch and out the side vent.

Chris

Can i just check guys what temps your seeing on Apexi power FC monitor?  I tend to run around on the road at 88 deg C  but as soon as i hit track steadily rises about a degree a lap of Coombe.
