Title: Need Help
Post by: Mikey22 on June 27, 2012, 08:23:18 PM
Need some help with engine symptoms. Engine stall a few seconds after start and surging of idle.

Ok i\'ve finally got round to having a tinker with the car as its been stood for a few weeks. Ive taken the spark plugs out and cranked over and replaced spark plugs. It finally sprung into life however the plugs were a little black (new ones on the way)

The car idles fine when its in drive and has load on the engine. However in park or Neutral it surges up and down. Have looked at the tps and the apexi says its set at 0.70 which i think is right. I managed to get it to sit for a while at 900rpm and it sounded great. But then start with the surging again.

After a while i turned the car off and now i cant get started again. I\'ve changed the coil pack and spark leads. like i say plugs are on their way. Is there anything else i should be looking for?

Thanks for your help

Wolfie1 when you got it tuned up how much did it cost you?

I always associate things like taking it to a specialist with mega bucks. I simply cant think of anything else that i can do. Ive replaced the coil pack and the plugs and the leads and its still not right.

Ive looked all over to make sure my vac lines are correct and the only one i cant find an end for is the vac box under the plenum. One side isnt leading to anywhere however i cant find where its supposed to go.

cheers

Plugs only foul if its not running right - what spark plugs have you got? Are you running 9s all round?

When did you last change the HT leads? Also, that sounds like an air leak or you are getting some unmetered air getting in somewhere, have you checked all the pipes and intake for any leaks?

HT leads were changed last week along with the coil pack.

I\'ve checked for cracked pipes etc The only thing i can think of is would it make a difference if youve lost a nut from from the TB?

The idle air hole for the intake is tiny and that supports the car to idle, even a tiny tiny hole (especially if its unmetered going into the engine) will make a difference, I would get a nut and ensure that the TB is sealed correctly - perhaps also lightly spray a tiny bit of WD40 around where the nut is missing, if there is a rise in rpm then thats where the leak is, but I would definatly make sure that the TB is sealed before trying anything else.

My guess that if it is the TB not sealing is that as the engine vibrates the hole gets slightly wider making an even bigger air leak which then stalls out the car due to unmetered air getting in.

well i think his work and experience are a very fair price, a remap is £350. last time i was down he supplied, made and fitted a custom exhaust, fitted a hks front pipe, fitted 1680 injectors and aeromotive fpr and remapped it for £900 (i supplied the injectors, fpr and injectors) i work in a garage myself and see garage costs for jobs all the time and his prices are good plus you get the peace of mind its going to be done right and the engine isint going to overboost or anything like that and go pop
