Hi all,
Im new on here. Im looking at selling my MR2 turbo and getting a gen 3 RX7.
It appears that there are loads of different types of RX7 to go for, like Type R, S, etc.
Could anyone explain or point me in the right direction what kind to go for pls?
Im after a manual, pref black, with all the extras eg. aircon etc, and L reg or newer. Will spend up to £8/9000 if necessary but must be immaculate for that price.
Whats the best kind to go for and what to look out for when buying?
Also are cars that have been rebuilt better to buy or does that mean theyve been thrashed? How often do they need rebuilding?
Would prefer relatively standard as well, except possibly filters, BOV, and exhaust.
Thanks guys I appreciate your help.

At the top of this section is a model guide which will tell you more information than you wish to know :p

Probably better to go for one thats been done or have some back up funds incase. Need rebuild approx 60k miles but it depends on so many things...
If it has filters and exhausts then its probably going to need an ECU too unless its just a cat back.
Lee
Gav,
Check these sites for 3rd gen rx7\'s, for the price you are willing to spend you can find a very good 3rd gen, preferably you should look for one thats either been rebuilt or with low mileage, although for that price you should be looking for a rebuilt one. Normally around 60k before you require rebuild may even stretch to 75k depends how its been looked after?

Autotrader site will also lead to other imports websites too.

Thanks Gurj, those links are a great help.
Also mate, what is the last year/reg that the Rx7 was made. Is it M reg?
In your opinion, would my £8/9k buy me a rebuilt/low mileage M reg?
Thanks again
Gav
M\'95 may of been last of the UK cars (not many of \'em thou 120sumin as i recall) but the RX7 was made up to 2002 again as i recall but going be needing quite a big budget for one of them babies.....

Hard to say wot you\'d get for that money as the devils (http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/teufel/devil-smiley-032.gif) always in the detail as they say.......
I\'m sure you can pick sumin very fruity up for that £ but it\'s only fair to say there are no guarantees with this or any other performance car really......
Good luck with yer quest thou it is a noble one :cool
Si
Cheers Si,
Ive only had the MR2 turbo since last August but went out in a RX7 for the first time yesterday and was amazed.
RX7 has similar kit of power to mine but delivery is totally different. Think Ive narrowed it down to either a Type R, RS or RZ (preferably RZ) in black or silver.
Just got to find one now
Thanks for the advice
Gav
RZ\'s are all black. They dont come around that often.
Gav,
I used to have a MR2 twin entry turbo jobby, i think its a natural progression onto the rx7 as both are rear wheel drive and are fairly bad in the wet!
Also the seating position in both is almost identical although the rx is actually better, just found the MR2 was getting to easy to handle mine was making around 310bhp which is no mugg, but wanted something very quick!!!
As far as your budget goes the most important thing to remember is DON\'T RUSH IN !!! hold out until you find the exact car you\'re looking for, maybe in waiting time you might even manage to stretch the budget further??
Didn\'t note where about you are based but i\'m sure somebody off here will be happy to go along with you to check out a few rx\'s as we\'re all quite helpful (not Scoobi Si though:rollin )
Goodluck with it mate, just dont rush in and prob not good idea to buy from garages who dont have much knowledge on the rx7.

Just seen you\'re next to me!!!! damn Forest fans!!!!
I\'d be happy to go with ya mate, if you require, also Wav is in Notts so he\'d be closest. But let me know?

Have you got a dyno sheet for that mate we know what your like.lol :rollin
rgds
Funny enough no, thats why i said "around":rollin
Brian, seriously though great cars to drive MR2\'s, power delivery\'s very good just the handlings very dodgy worse than the rx TBH!!
It was very quick though i\'d guess around 5secs 0-60 didn\'t do 1/4 mile as i\'m one of those people who are careful not to break stuff - but i guess going out for a blast down the roads prob the same??
It was owned by a doctor b4 me and he had it modded up for sunday use, sold it as wanted something quicker and bought my first rx from that sale.
How much power you hoping for?? from the white single??

Gurj, Rams!?!?!?! Tut tut tut. :D
Im actually from Ilkeston/Westhallam way but closer to Notts than Derby (and a forest fan) :o
Ive probably even seen your car knocking around at some point if your local. Where about you from and what reg/colour is your car?
If you could have a trip along mate, I would really appreciate a second opinion esp as you own a RX7 already.
I\'ll let you know when Ive found a decent one if thats ok?
Did you notice a difference in performance from the MR2 to the RX7 then? What do you prefer? On paper, they have similar performance figures.
310bhp is a decent figure for the MR2 and relatively easyish to achieve. Boost increase etc etc.
Cheers
Gav
Nevr had the pleasure of being in one but I have heard that they are very quick. Hnece I was really looking forward to my clash with the 450bhp one at rotorstock but guess my transmission chickened out. When I get the white one back on the rollers I expect around 390 rwhp. I only need about 30 minutes on the rollers as I don\'t have much to finish off.
Just been looking on //www.rotaryimports.com and saw this one: http://www.rotaryimports.com/html/japan/jap5.html
Is this the right kind of price for the year as Ive seen some that are 1994 for about £6k with rebuilt engines?!?!
Cheers
Gav
Hi Gav,
Yea be happy to come with you if required mate, the car you\'ve just shown is actually one of Brians ( BNA ELLIS) and his cars are normally very good, the asking price for that car is about right, the ones you\'re looking at for £6000 are not going to be that good unless its a repossession order or something???
I have to warn you lots of people who have bought low priced rx7\'s do struggle with them as there is some problem of some nature? Also could it be this cheap as the rebuild was no good or done by a bad company ie - Hurley\'s??
The one you\'ve seen at rotaryimports looks very nice if in doubt give Brian a ring and ask away, Brian\'s easily approachable and has much knowledge in the rx7 area.
I know others have seen my car so apologies, but heres a pic for you Gav - you might have seen it around??
Doh!!! forgot to add pic:rolleyes:
That car looks fantastic!! I cant say I have seen it yet, would certainly remember that one. I\'ll keep an eye open for it, so if you see a black MR2, J reg flashing, it\'ll prob be me :)
Thanks for the help mate, I\'ll be in touch as soon as I find a decent one. Like you said, its better to search for a decent one, rather than rush in and buy one full of problems.
Cheers
Gav
Hi Gav,
I live in Wollaton, so if you have any questions or if you wanna come round for a chat or some advice give us a shout. I have 2 rx\'s on my driveway at the moment:bandit although I\'m desperately trying to get rid of one of them (well the one that isn\'t mine) as I need the space so that I can get a project car for my girlfriend. Only problem is, it doesn\'t have an engine in it, and am now just waiting for a few parts to arrive before i can put it back together  .
Good luck with finding a nice rx, Paul:)
Hi Wav,
I pass through Wollaton most days on the way to uni. Well, I did - Ive just finished my final year.
Thanks for the offer for a chat and advice - I\'ll definately meet up with you sometime. It\'d be good to have a chat and pick up some tips from you.
What colour is your car, and do you have any photos of it? (Sorry just seen its a red one :o )
Do you do your own rebuilds etc? Sounds like you\'d be a great resource if a rebuild was on the cards.
What project car are you thinking of getting for your girlf? I know a guy with a fantastic black MR2 turbo :D ;)
Cheers
Gav
My car is red with black 5 spoke speedline alloys and has a smooth rear:cool so yeah it is fairly distinct and you\'d know if you saw it.
Yeah we did rebuild the engine ourselves, but obviously I don\'t know whether it\'ll work or not yet, only time will tell:eek: ;)
LOL, nah I don\'t think an mr2 is quite what I had in mind. A 1.3 golf mk1 driver was more my thinking, so if you have one of them lying around let me know ;)
Cheers,
Paul
Its that pic again
:D
Hi Gav! :wave
First of all, welcome to the forums, and best of luck with your search! You\'ve probably discovered this already, but i think these boards are a life-line to people like us (currently looking to get a 3rd gen also) as they are FULL of really nice guys, who are always happy to help and offer advice. They\'re an amusing bunch too!! :D
Anyway, this subject has come up quite a lot, and there are numerous topics around covering the various points there are to mull over. For example, which model to go for, and the differences between them. Also, there is the question of how to go about getting hold of one. Because they are a little more er fussy than other cars that use \'conventional\' engines, it\'s really important to be sure of exactly what you\'re buying. For that reason, personally i\'m looking to get someone like Brian (from Rotary Imports, username here is BNA_ELLIS) or Miguel from New Era to import me one.
Here\'s some (more!!!) links for you bud, first couple are excellent sources of info about the models etc (RZ would be lovely but are rare!). Most people think the differences aren\'t great, as with a few choice mods any FD can become as marvellous as an RZ! There are a couple of things tho, like twin oil coolers, but at the end of the day the FD is sublime in any of it\'s guises.
So, first of all...the model guide and general info link:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=394
This is a very very handy table of model differences:
http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html
And finally, a few threads about importing etc, and also one about the Bathurst models - they are often sought after but might not be exactly what you think!
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7326
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7421
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7143
Sorry if it seems a bit lazy bud, i\'d happily type it out again for you but i\'m at work and i\'m trying to sneak in the odd post before anyone notices!!
Best of luck, pal.
Adrian
Hi Guys,
Paul you coming to Derby meet sunday?? usual time 12pm - 4pm, also if you wanna pop down Gav you\'re more than welcome not sure how well you know Derby but the meets at Stenson bubble pub just past stenson fields?
There should be a few guys coming down this week who are interested in rx7\'s so will be nice to chat to a few.
Also Si should have his car back, and not sure if Dan Norton\'s making the trip??
Rgds
Gurj
Paul,
Sorry, no 1.3 golfs spare Im afraid, but I\'ll be on the look out for your red motor.
Adrian,
Thanks for all of those links and info - thats a great help. A few more hours of reading then
Its a nightmare when you are looking for a car and desperate to make sure you dont make any rash decisions. Good to know someone else is in the same situation as me :) As least this forums full of knowledgeable guys/gals to help out. What car do you currently drive then?
Gurj,
I think I will have a run to the meet on Sunday to meet you guys and look around your cars. I\'ll try and get my mate with the RX7 to come along as well. Dont know where Stenson Fields is (heard of it) but Im sure I\'ll find my way.
Cheers guys
Gav
Tell ya what Gav,
i\'ll PM you my mobile number, if you can get to the Showcase cinemas in Derby, give me a bell from there and i\'ll pop up and fetch you down?
What ya think?
But brilliant if your mate can bring his RX as we dont get many:D
Alright mate, sounds good thanks.
My mate is in the marines, so is away until Saturday, so will confirm sometime that day.
Showcase cinema is a good place to meet.
So that should hopefully be 2 RX7\'s and a MR2 in convoy :)
Cheers
Gav
& hopefully not any mondeos in a Si wants to drive his proper car again stylee (http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/ruinkai/coolgleamA.gif) lol
Si
& LOL @ Dave group buy on digital camera for Gurjs bday maybe

Si (all in jest)
You\'re welcome, bud...hope it\'s of some use.
As far as my current car...believe it or not, the FD will practically be my first car. I have something now which i\'m not even going to name, and i\'ll be keeping it for when the rex lands. Think it\'s going to work out cheaper, and it\'ll make driving thr rex even more amazing because i won\'t \'get used\' to it. (If that\'s possible?!) I\'ve never owned a performance car, although have had the pleasure of being in some lovely FDs. Put simply, i\'ve wanted one for about 5 years or so, and recently a property of mine has sold for more than i anticipated...and left me with a choice of either a) re-investing, or b) buying my dream car.
Considering i\'m only a young \'un (24 when i come to insure the beasty) the insurance should really be enough to scare me off (which reminds me, have you been searching about for quotes? there\'s a great section here dedicated to it!) but i\'m worried that by the time i\'m in this position again it might be too late.
So, caution\'s been thrown into the wind, and i AM going to get one...the hard part started after i made that decision. There\'s so much to learn and understand, and due in part to the nature of the beast i think it\'s good to have a fairly broad knowledge of the car, mechanically speaking.
Thankfully, some dispute over where my property ends and another begins (it\'s ridiculous) is slowing proceedings, giving me a good opportunity to think carefully and do a bit of fact-finding.
You\'ll see in one of those threads i was enthusing about the merits of having your car imported by Brian or Miguel. Won\'t go into it here (it must have taken you a while to get to this point! ) but put briefly i\'d be happy to wait a few months for a car that has been picked by the experts, and as close to the spec i\'d wish for as possible.
On a different subject, i\'m very jealous you\'re going to be meeting up with some of the guys. Can only imagine what Gurj\'s car is like in the flesh, and it would be fantastic to actually meet the chaps and have a little chinwag about FDs without putting someone to sleep! You may even get a glimpse of Si\'s mystery front end!
I promise that sooner or later i WILL be down, i\'m planning a trip to Colchester (essex way) around christmas time...all being well i\'ll be the proud owner of an FD by then, and i\'ll have to work it in with a meet of some kind!
Have a great time guys, pics if poss! :D
FD - Dreamer -
some of us guys will be at totb at elvington which is in Yorks, so thats probably closer to you i guess, otherwise i think Crail is the next best place??
Gav,
Yea meet up at showcase, its not far to the bubble from there only about 1 mile, but yea ring us on sat and let me know you\'re coming. I\'ll be at sivlerstone but not drifting so ring anytime mate.:)
See you soon.
Selling a property at 23/24? Im just in the process of looking to buy my first one, let a lone sell one! Mind Im only 21 (22 in Aug).
As for insurance, Ive had a look around, no one will touch me until Im 22 but last time I checked, quotes were around £1500. I pay £1200 on the MR2 so not too much more.
Also my mate (who has the RX7) has a good insurance company - it is his fathers business policy so has managed to get insured fully comp for £650 at the age of 22. Think Im going to get my dad to setup a business account with this company and put my name on the policy, hopefully get it quite a bit cheaper!
I agree tho mate, you might as well have nice cars whilst your young, the minute you start a family, practicality kicks in :(
So I take it youve not found an RX yet then? How long have you been looking and what has been wrong with the ones youve previously found?
By the way what does FD stand for??
Ive checked on Brian and Miguels sites but at the minute there arent any black, silver or other dark coloured RX7\'s for sale that I like. I\'ll keep checking tho.
I like the fact that \'Jimmys\' (have you heard of him?) give every car a full rebuild - which would hopefully save me the hassle and expense but again his stock is limited.
Ive sent an email to Jimmy\'s with the spec Im after and hoping that they will get in touch with what cars they have to match my criteria. Is this what you did with Miguel and Brian? Tell them what you want and they email you picks and description?
Good luck in finding a decent one mate.
At least we probably wont be looking at the same ones! Believe me, I dont mind travelling to find a good Rx but not all the way to Scotland! :)
If you dont mind me asking mate, what kind of price are you looking at and what spec do you think you can get for that? Such as year/reg, mileage and type etc.
Cheers
Gav
FD= Fird Deneration :rollin lol that\'s bad spelling even 4 me (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/wink/1bluewinky.gif)
Erm dont think it stands for anything just a follow on from the FC 2nd gen FB 2nd gen & er wotever came before &/or started that of but that\'s my limited understanding....
Yeah Jimmies are well respected from all i;ve seen as well & the rebuild factor cant be bad.
I ordered mine from Newera & very happy with there service, basically mailed \'em a list of what i wanted ideally, essentially or just general stuff (read Si typed an essay as usual but Miguel said he couldn\'t interpret the smilies into car parts (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/geno/rofl.gif) lol) But seriously basically give him as much of a wish list (milage, age, colour, mods whatever you want really although he did say he couldn\'t guarantee specific bodyparts so easily but still managed to ind me sumin nice & fruity) as you fancy, although may obviously take longer if you have sumin very specific in mind, & as long as you give him a sufficient budget then you shouldn\'t be disapointed & yes he mails ya loads of pix & the spec of car which for me was pucker at the first attempt so i bagsied it & then it\'s just the wait to ship etc......

Anyway yes if you can bear the wait then wouldn\'t hesitate to recommend Newera & Brian & i cant recall seeing anything other than praise for Jimmies. Or if you want a mad one Ross/Dragon may also be yer man....
Si
Jesus having said that a fine display of horendous grammer by me in that last post link to how to type like Si (http://www.paradise.gen.nz/rants/write_like_a_wanker.html)
Si (AKA the proof reading daddy)
Fird Deneration, hahaha at least I\'ll remember what it means now! :D
Ive sent Newera an email with my requirements, so see what they manage to find.
I could bear the wait for shipping (about 6 weeks isnt it?). I have heard that some of the cars get damaged during shipping and bits are stolen from inside the cars - dont know how true this exactly is?!?! guess its a risk you have to take. :(
Have you still got the scooby then Si?
Cheers
Gav
There\'s always risks to one degree or other shouldn\'t worry too much i know newera have swapped to shipping up north to a secure compound. Shipping itself does take around 6 weeks give or take although it\'s the bits either side which make for a longer wait, think mine was purchased in auction towards the end of October (all this is off top of me head so take with pinch of salt) & arrived in country December, which ment extra delays with various DVLA & other folks not being about for a large chunk due to xmas so again a few weeks you can ignore there & eventually all sorted with SVA etc erm (memory loss is strong in this one) think is was into Feb by the time i got my beasty, certainly worth the wait thou :god
Anyway as i say tiz a painful wait when you know it\'s on its way but is worth it IMO ;) so dont be put off.......
No scoob sold that a couple of months before i paid for RX7 & got a rather good price as sum1 obviously recognised who i am & what i stand for :rollin lol But i have got a mondeo as well she\'s a beauty  lol again
Good luck anyway mate as i say you wont be sorry (Si crosses fingers, toes, other bits & draws up contract so i cannot be blamed for any mishaps ;))
Si
Gurj...thanks very very much. Somehow i\'d forgotten all about TOTB3, but i\'m going to apply for the weekend holiday from work, and get down there. Hopefully i\'ll meet up with a friend from down south, should be running his new evo VIII mr fq340 which will be fun.
To be honest the trackday action will take a back seat to meeting you guys and drooling over your machines! You\'ll have to prepare yourselves for a barrage of newbie questions though! :D
Gav,
Well it\'s not as grandiose as it sounds, i didn\'t buy the house originally, it was a part of my inheritance...much as i\'d love to claim to be a bit of a wheeler-and-dealer with regards property (it\'s where the smart money is!) it\'s just the way things have worked out. But, whether i bought it or not, still leaves me in the same position! :)
I\'m also looking to buy a property now, the good news is the house being sold is in suffolk, and is fetching a good price (all being well!) and as i live up here in Scotland, the money will go a very long way. To give you an idea, i\'m looking at 2 houses (out of a terrace of three) one is a two-bed, the other just 1...but it\'ll be around about £65k for the pair! Admittedly, one needs a fair bit of work, but they\'re great value. Course, it means i\'ll never be able to move back down south...
I\'m amazed at your friends\' insurance quote. At 22 he must be paying less than virtually everyone on here! My main problem is that i\'ll only have been driving for about a year when i come to insure the beastie. Ouch.
Yeah, i\'d never really thought about practicality, but my best friend is just about to trade his M3 CSL for an evo as he can\'t get the baby seat into the back of the beemer without a major struggle, plus the carbon fibre is getting wrecked inside by the girlfriend\'s jewellery and his little girl \'scratching!\'. Never pictured him in a 4-door saloon...scary!!
I haven\'t seriously made any enquiries yet, i\'m going to wait until the sale of the house is complete, it\'s been a bit of a nightmare and before i commision someone to look for my dream FD i want to be absolutely sure i\'m good for it, if you know what i mean. I\'m still unsure as to what the final spec would be, it\'s difficult to know where to draw the line, if you know what i mean? For example, there\'s a particular kit i like, is it worth waiting for ever for Miguel to find it, or maybe buy a stock-ish model and have Ross (DRAGON) fit it? Or just get something i\'m happy with from the outset and forget about getting that one in particular?
Fird Den...:rollin Truth is i don\'t know exactly, only that is the chassis code designation. It\'s easier to use for 3rd gens as of course there are other RX-7s!
With regards most importers, i believe the majority of stock is sold prior to arrival, i.e. a customers order, so they don\'t tend to carry a lot of examples at any one time. New Era have a great \'Sold\' section though! Also, you should have a looksie at the New Era \'Skylines & Skyscrapers\' DVD - a great insight into the company and how the importing procedure actually works. Also lots of Miguel\'s own RX-7! :)
As Si said, Miguel ships elsewhere now (Newcastle, i believe), but i hope we\'re through the worst of it, seems like the relevent parties are really starting to sit up and take notice. Still a scary thought though. Really hope they get it cleared up ASAP.
I\'m 90% sure that i won\'t need to drive up and down the country, as i really want to source one through a specialist. Imagine we both had seem the same one though!
Absolutely can\'t wait for TOTB3 now, will be so nice to have a chat with everyone here and look at the cars first-hand.
Price...hmm. Well it\'s going to be hard to decide. It\'s tempting to go all out, but even though i know it\'ll be the purchase of my life, at the end of the day it\'s only going to lose value. That said, i will be prepared to cough up for the right example. Hard to put an exact figure on it, but certainly no more than £15k. For that, i\'d be looking at a \'96 model on (version 4, 265bhp, round tail lights, snazzy green backlit display!) with mileage under 35\'000. Mods wise, certainly a \'99 spec front end, and preferably a nearly standard engine bay, perhaps with the exception of a full exhaust system and a nice after market filter. Anything more and it\'d be completely un-insurable! Plus 280bhp or so is MORE than enough considering, unlike most people, it\'ll be my first real sports car.
Main thing is quite simply, it\'s immaculate inside and out, with low mileage and very healthy internals. I could go on all day about aftermarket bits (mmm mazdaspeed carbon interior mmm) but i don\'t know how specific i\'ll be when push comes to shove. If i\'ll be spending towards the upper end of the budget, i\'ll be getting one that will be perfect for me, or as near as dammit. Or, i could maybe spend £9~£10k, get a lovely car and spend a bit getting various bits and pieces put on. All depends which will work out best. I don\'t know how much, for example, it would cost to have a kit fitted and sprayed. So many things to consider! :p
Anyway mate, better get back to work, been getting funny looks for the last 20 mins! Good luck, as always, with the search...we\'ll have to keep each other posted! You gonna be making it to TOTB3?
 OMG just realised how long that was. Sorry to everyone who ploughed through that only to find it was mostly waffle!! :D
FD,
hi mate i think the closest importer to you is //www.powervehicles.co.uk, if you\'re looking at spending up to 15k you will get a hell of a rx for that!!!
As you\'ve gathered almost every importer will take a order for a special rx especially for you, have a look on //www.linney.org, he has a blue rx coming in soon and its a stunner for around £13600 i think, or £14600?
But Ben (linney) does bring in some special rx7\'s as hes into the look and performance than just performance, see what you think, but like i say with the budget you have you\'ll get a stunner:)
Just had a quick look its £13500 and is pristine in condition with 35000miles and lots of extras running single turbo T04R mapped to run at 1bar boost.
//www.linney.org
Gurj
yep, I\'ve been monitoring that one for some time! Nice, Re-Amemiya bonnett & kit, not sure on the back lights but hey-ho. Ben has always had some nice kit though! Right that\'s it, I\'m calling off the wedding and buying it! (risky, as a woman\'s scorn and a nice FD don\'t mix well!)
on the main subject (cough me hijack never

lol) i may well of got it wrong but isn\'t TOTB a none park yer nice cars here kinda event in that you cant actually park on site for this big event?
Si (hopefully & probably wrong once again...)
When is TOTB3? And where? I know some of the MR2 guys are going, after getting a pretty good team together to run. :)
My mate has always had cheap insurance through this particular company. I can remember when he was 20 odd and got insured on a Renault 5 turbo for £350 fully comp. Some people get all the luck.
Did you ever go out in the M3 CSL? If so what was it like? Fantastic cars, and super quick as well!!
Will keep you updated on the search progress, might have a look at one at the weekend if I get chance, just need to find one to look at now. :)
Cheers
Gav
Mmm, i\'ve clocked that one too. It\'s beautiful, but to be honest i don\'t think i\'d be able to insure it, and even if i could, with power like that i\'d be asking for trouble. Tempting but it\'s out of my league!
Also like the silver fella directly below - got a big soft spot for the GT-C front end, low mileage and looks very tidy. Ben certainly does seem to pick the good \'uns, remember looking at another silver model (further down the page, OEM Type R). But
Couldn\'t get the Power Vehicles site up matey, but i have no problem whatsoever travelling way down south to collect my baby...the drive back would be fantastic.
Thanks as always for your help & advice chap! One quick question...has anyone here had a kit fitted and painted? Was wondering about the approximate cost?
Si...please tell me you\'re joking?! Where would everyone park if they don\'t have a designated parking area?
Sorry,

I may well be wrong but that was my understanding it\'s only access for the competitors vehicles & support vehicles & i guess with those alone will take a lot of space especially with the handling couse etc n all that, tiz a big site but guess not enough space for a mass of parking for spectators too sure there\'s planty of transport from York &/or the various local camp sites etc thou. Anyway i\'ll say no more incase i am talking poo but that was my understanding of it as an out & out go not show event....
I\'m still guna be very tempted to go even if it doesn\';t mean the usual showing off yer own car stuff as it does look awesome all the top bollock cars in the UK being tested to their limits! :god
Si
I think TOTB3 is at Elvington, Yorks, on sunday 1st august. Tickets are £15 in advance or £20 on the day. Will be great, the last 2 sounded epic!
Cheers for the site Gurj, not an awful lot in just now but another one to keep my eye on!
Yeah, talk about all the luck! The CSL is costing my friend just over a grand which i thought was awesome, all things considered. But then he\'s been driving since he was 17, and had back-to-back performance cars. Lucky people!! :p
The car is just lovely. I agree with most people that it\'s over-priced, but it\'s special for sure. It didn\'t feel much quicker than his old E46 M3, but we were doing 175 in what felt like no time at all after giving it full throttle. And get this - the crazy machine down-shifted at 160mph from top back to 5th!!! Has a feature called \'aggression ratio\' which controls how snappy gear-shifts are, and how high you can rev the engine to. Put right up it\'s fantastic. Also, it has launch control...which has to be seen to be believed. Holds the revs at 5000, you simply put your foot to the floor, it sqeaks for a split-second, then just launches! Got a great lil clip on my phone which i look at once in a while when suffering from withdrawal symptoms!
The most impressive part, though, is the sound. It\'s a bit marmite, as it\'s not by any means a boomy sound which some people like. It\'s more like a animal screaming, like it\'s got some kind of creature under the bonnet! It\'s all thanks to the biggest and most bling induction set-up i\'ve seen, CF everywhere. Will miss it, the evo will be at least as quick (being tuned to roughly 400bhp) but not the same.
I\'ll be very interested in hearing about your exploits at the weekend. Good luck finding something to have a play in!
You\'re prob right Si, i\'m just trying to convince myself. But, if the worse comes to the worse, do you think anyone would be up for a lil pub meet or something before or after the show? :)
Gurj,
You have PM, unfortunately I dont think Im going to be able to make the meet this Sunday after all.
If things change I\'ll give you a call.
Cheers
Gav
Hi Gav,
have pm\'d ya.
Anyhow if your mate still wants to pop down he\'s more than welcome as its a jap car meet.
To be honest if theres no new guys coming from the rx scene then i prob wont go either, as know the rest of the gang plus washed car yesterday so canna be arsed to do it again!!!:o
Si - car still broke - no show:rolleyes:
it\'s not broke it\'s just lacking paint

lol
Si
PS This week Gurjs car was mostly cleaned by blind chipmonks with sandpaper (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/ed/laughpf.gif)
Gurj,
Just sent you a PM.
Cheers
Gav
Anyone managed to find out whether or not TOTB3 is gonna have any kind of large parking area? We\'ve had our internet access revoked at work (marvellous) so i\'m only able to nip on for a matter of seconds at a time! :o
How did you get on at the weekend Gav? Find anything?
Hi Adrian,
No joy yet Im afraid. I did spot one at Southampton which looked quite good, 36,000 certified miles on an L reg, black, Type R, for just under £7000. Thought it sounded a bargain, so wanted to view it next weekend, typically though, its been sold. :(
Had a hectic weekend so didnt manage to look at any, RX7\'s and was unable to make the meet on SUnday, which was a shame as the weather was pretty good.
Been out and about in my MR2 today with the roof off. Ive only taken it off about 3 times since Ive had it, due to the bad weather.
Just found out that on the MR2 owners club stand at JAE is a free bbq for MR2 owners. SO, if I do make it down to JAE, I\'ll get you all a free burger. :)
Hows the car hunting going your end? Anything turned up that your interested in?
Gurj, Cheers for the PM, I\'ll let you know about the convoy shortly.
Cheers
Gav
//www.awesomeimports.com
£9995 or £9495
Well it\'s been made much harder by these inconsiderate types at work! Since i don\'t have internet access at home, i have to try and fit all the seaching etc into 2 30 minute breaks!! :o
I\'m waiting to see some more info on the silver number at linney.org. Sounds great from the brief description Ben has put up - love the GT-C front end (what do you think?) and VeilSide skirts. Think the rear wing is a little excessive (but don\'t worry Gurj - your car definitely looks fab as it\'s a much meaner colour with the sleek light kit etc, just don\'t think it suits the silver one!). 95 Type R, 29k miles (i think!) for £13.5k. Also, not a lot of engine mods (good for the insurance!) but with a new ECU and exhaust system. That\'s from memory, think it\'s about right.
You certainly did find a bargain...£7k for that kind of mileage is a very fair price. Too bad it\'s gone already, but like we know, this is probably going to take a while!
MR2 sounds fab mate. The old dear has one (can\'t remember if i said that or not...getting old!) and it\'s great fun. Only the NA version, but sounds lovely at high revs and still gets a fair tramp on above 6000rpm. Quality of the interior is high too, full leather etc. Still, can\'t beat a bit of roof-down driving, my brother had an old 205 convertible, was great.
Too bad i can\'t make it down for JAE, that\'s gonna be great. Haha and free burgers too? Really looking forward to TOTB3, you guys all going? Quite soon after JAE...
Oh! And thanks for your continued hard work Gurj! Another site to monitor! That one was well-priced, but not too keen on the kit and why do people put supra-style wings on FDs?! :p
Hi Adrian,
yea was just looking around autotrader site, saw that one and thought one of you guys on here might be interested as its only done 33000miles, but yea the rear wings naff!!!
The silver one at Linney\'s is cool mate, give Ben a ring i know ben quite well and hes a top bloke very easy to talk to no jargon or bullshit. I very highly recommend Ben to anyone!!! When he saw my car at Bolney it was great to hear he actually tried to buy it himself in Japan at auction but missed out!!! Makes me feel happier that it got his attention.
Not sure i put down //www.nemesisperformance.co.uk
Not at work tomrrow so up late surfing as you do, saw a few cars someone on here might fancy, see what you think??
First one £10600, 15k on new rebuild, built by Roteknics, 07785 997593.
Second one, £12495, looks immaculate, 400bhp!!! 35000miles
And finally this one which does look sweet if not alittle pricey at £12995, 35k 01923839090.
OH heres the interior of the red one, personal fav:) as its making 420bhp ............ oh yea !!!!:evillaugh :burnout
has it been gurj\'d it\'s making 20bhp more than 2 posts ago (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/laughing/lol2.gif) lol
Si
Hmm that red leather interior looks very nice :cool and is actually tastefully done, which is rare if it came like that from the land of the rising Sun:rolleyes: ;)
Paul:)

Wait a mo, it said 400bhp on the advert, wheni went to the actual dealers website it said 420bhp so there SOOBI
i thought grinder said homo not homer ;) pmsl
We\'ll letcha off or at least i will kuz i\'m a kind & generous soul ( no adding AR to that :p lmao)
Si
I really like the black and the silver ones, although the red interior does look fantastic.
On the silver one, is the front bumper Mazda speed? Was the Mazda speed kit standard on a certain year/revision?
Gurj, what website did you find those cars on pls?
Cheers
Gav
Hi Gav,
the black one looks in very very good condition from the pic, not sure what kits on the silver one although the front does look like mazdaspeed??
Both cars can be found on the //www.autotrader.co.uk site, those 3 were the best ones on there matey.
Black rx7 - £10600 - 07785 997593
Silver rx7 - £12995 - 01923 839 090
Gurj.
Blimey you\'re like a bargain hunting machine mate!! Cheers!
Silver one is fab, think i\'m going off the idea of getting a model like the black one, then spending £££ kitting it etc. There are so many beautiful FDs on offer seems silly to spend so much money to personalise an already rare car!
Red leather is stunning. Anyone know how that compares to the interior of a Type X/ Bathurst X models? Some of those had red leather standard, thought it was just the seats though?? Either way, the insurance scoundrels would just laugh at me with that kind of power!
The silver one is mazdaspeed front end, possibly a mazdaspeed type II rear wing also, but i always get them muddled up with the \'99 spec one! I think that it may well be a full Type II bodykit, including front end, skirts and rear wing. Could be wrong though!
Hey while we\'re at it guys, could you give me an opinion on this kit? It\'s what i\'d like if i was going to buy a stock FD and put my own bits and pieces on. Front end is INGS+1, rear end is also INGS+1, skirts are C-West and rear wing would be a standard \'99 spec jobbie.

Would appreciate any input guys! Seems very very reasonable for the kit itself (when you compare the prices to jap stuff) but i\'m worried about fitting/labour/spraying etc. Hey Gurj, did you get the respray yourself or was it another bonus of your new car?
Cheers!
Hi Mate,
My car was already done Purple when i bought it off Ross, one of the reasons i bought this particular car was indeed the colour.
Took me 8 months to find the right rx chap so until you got exactly what you want keeping looking!!!!;)
The black rx i picked out is at a very good price as the rebuild was already done and had aftermarket bits / bobs.
Gurj
Hi Adrian,
That kit looks awesome. I love the front bumper and also how the rear bumper is blended into the rest of the car.
The sideskirts look nice and very chunky.
All that white car needs is a decent spoiler to finish it off IMO.
No joy yet with the car searching Im afraid. Im away for the next few days on a training assessment down at Dorset, so if I get chance I might have a look around down there, to see what cars are available. Lets hope a nice RZ turns up with 20,000 miles, black around 1995, all for about £6000. (Yeah right!) :)
Cheers
Gav
I think Jet Pilot who posts here is in Dorset and has a nice looking black FD for sale right now.
Gareth
Yeah, it\'s a beaut. Same kit i believe, looks very interesting in black...accentuates the curves imho. Also got the mazdaspeed carbon (look) dash...think that would be very very tempting, only downer is the relatively high mileage. £9k is a fair price, but you\'d definitely want to set aside another £3k for a rebuild.
Cool, glad someone else likes it. People in the office think it looks too \'simple\', but i like the minimalist idea...they\'re still big big fans of Veilside kits and the like, but i think they distort the lines of an FD too much. Still, all subjective! But thanks for the input. I think i\'m right in saying the skirts are C-West, Ross has them descibed as GTC skirts, but they\'re certainly not the mazdaspeed GTC ones!
White cars are not so good...the RX still looks cool but it doesn\'t really flatter the car. Agree with the rear wing, i quite like the GT style wings with the central mounts, but not too keen on the type that have the mounts near the side of the car. I love the standard \'99 spec wing, but if it came with something like this i\'d also be happy!!
http://www.dragonperformance.co.uk/productimages/f-a6188e2a-448f-4ff4-a9e6-a456099bebcb.jpg
Should thank Ross for providing so many useful links! :)
Have fun on the course, but good luck finding an RZ with 20k on it for £6k!! Still, at least if you do it\'s guaranteed to be black mate!
I was thinking, wouldn\'t it be great if there was an independent company who went out to \'survey\' FDs? Just been looking at a couple of houses, and it occured to me these surveyors make a killing but provide an essential service. Also, a friend bought a TVR a while back, and commisioned someone to go out and test the car in every way before buying it.
Found this on EBAY:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18211&item=2485486498&rd=1
 Just seen the latest addition to Ben\'s site...his own, personal FD!! It\'s unreal! Have you guys seen it yet? What do you make of the Garage Carrera front end? Strange that the tell-tale \'99 spec front lights have gone (ironic as most pre \'99 spec ones have them!!) but i think it\'s incredible. Dread to think what kinda price it\'ll go for though!
I like it but not £20k like it
Ben\'s FD for sale here (http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=MAZDA&model=RX7&min_pr=75&max_pr=0&postcode=le13+0fh&miles=1500&max_records=50&source=0&sort=5&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH&start=2&distance=64&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200429152247957)

£8200

When was the rebuild? Does indeed seem like a bargain! Still not sure about the red ones though! Any ideas what front bumper that is? Not too good with the pre \'99 kits...
Oh, and 360bhp...think i\'d be about as likely to keep control of that at first as i would be trying to hang on to the lead of \'your boy\' when he was on a charge mate! :D
Not sure when the rebuild was, give the guy a ring if you want???
Gurj,
If that car was black it would be perfect, I would buy that definately.
Its in my exact budget range, it has the nice and subtle front bumper, ported/rebuilt and low mileage.
Did you spot this on autotrader again?
Hows your car doing?
Adrian, Any joy yet mate?
Cheers
Gav
the car could always be respreayed and if you plan on any bodywork changes then you\'d incur some of that cost anyway...
Might be worth checking it out as the cost of a respray might be less than getting the mods you want on a car the right colour if you dont want to wait for the perfect car for you.
Yeah thats a good idea Gregor. Certainly something to consider.
To be honest the only body mods I intend are the higher rear wing (late spec rx7 I think??).
Only concern is that I\'d pay about £1k for a respray which is a grand I basically cant get back when I come to sell it.
I might go and view it so I can actually see what a red rx looks like close up.
Hi Gav,
yea the cars on Autotrader matey, also a few decent priced ones on //www.ebaymotors.co.uk , yea go have a look at it then you can get a feel for one, as i think this one will look even better in the flesh.
Does look very nice though, with the rebuild already doen will save you lots of hassle, unless rebuilt by hurleys???
Think you can pick up the wing you are after for about £400 from Ross matey, if you are talking about the \'99 spec one?
No matey, had a day of insurance quotes a few days ago, pretty much ended with it being simply impossible. Not so bad, just means i\'ll be a better driver and get an even better car for the money next year, i\'ll be 25 with some NCD so insurance would be less, meaning for the combined budget now (factoring the car & insurance) i\'ll hopefully be able to get something special.
Also, as it\'s probably going to take 4 months+ to get one from Miguel, i could even order it before i\'m 25 so it\'ll arrive just in time! Trying hard to look on the bright side...
Found a lurvely puple/flip fella for you Gav:
1992
54000 miles
Rebuild 6000 miles ago
Beautiful kit (no idea which one?)
Spectacular paint
G-Reddy gauges for turbo,oil & water
£10550
It\'s an old model but looks gorgeous, 54000 miles on a 12 year old car is good, plus the rebuild has already been carried out, and only recently! Wheels aren\'t to my taste (it\'s not a saab, after all) but looks good otherwise. No engine mods to speak of, but that might well be a good thing?
http://www.dealer.autotrader.co.uk/_fareast.htm
very nice, just the alloys need changing or painting to gold???
:wave
Hi all,
Been reading through this whole thread. Thanks very much it has a lot of useful info. I guess in the same situation as FDreamer. I have a few months to go before i can order my FD. I made a deal with the miss\'s to save a couple of grand before getting some cash out of the mortgage.
Do you guys reckon ill be ok to get a sorted RX for 10 grand? Standard engine for insurance purposes?????
I came along to JAE and that made my mind up for me as far as the Rex is concerned. Amazing cars.
Gotta Have one soon.
Hey adrian,
That flip one is a beaut! That rear wing looks the business as well. Hertfordshires a bit of a trek for me so it would have to be a weekend visit.
1992 is a bit old, but as its already been rebuilt recently it saves a lot of hassle and hopefully future expense!
Is that a carbon fibre bonnet? Not sure if Im too keen on that  They make cars look like the old escorts and fiestas where every panel is a different colour :D
Good spot tho mate, I\'ll let you know if I get chance to go and have a look at it.
In fact Im going to the Leeds car auction one day this week, so have to see whether theres any nice RX7\'s up there. I\'ll keep you guys informed.
Cheers
Gav
Oh, and hi Stu, Im pretty new here too.
As youve prob seen so far, these guys are full of knowledge, which is exactly what I need to find the perfect RX7.
Cheers
Gav
Hmm. The flip purple one...
nose is the N1 kit
from R-magic
nuff said.
R-magic?? Is that good or bad? Never heard of them.
Stu,
if you are looking for a standard rx with body kit but no mods under the hood you will indeed find one for £10k take your time and find the right one for yourself, i have earlier listed a whole lot of importors so have a good look around matey.
Sounds like my budget will cover. i have been looking on all the sites posted on these forums and it certainly seems that either Brian or Miguel are the main people to see. however i am concerned by thread i read about Motermall not supporting the warraty they gave for a rebuild?
Anyone else had experiences of this?
I guess i need to be sure before parting with a large sum of cash that the engine wont blow with no cover?
This site really is brilliant for anyone looking at buying an RX. Thanks to all of you.
down to personal taste as to good or bad. personally I really like their stuff.
didn;t mean to cryptic in my post, but R Magic stuff tends to be quite pricey and isn\'t all that common over here.
That\'s the reason I cover the warranty myself.
imo warranty companies are a waste of time.
I actually have a 96 rx7 basically stock. it has approx 57,000 miles and will be sold with full engine rebuild for approx 10 - 10.5k
Bargain of the year imo. Can\'t upload pics at the mo i\'m on someone else\'s pc as my broadband cable is dead.
dodgy moderators and their thread hijacks tut tut
rgds
Brian,
What colour is the 96 RX7 your selling? What condition as well? and finally what \'type\' is it?
Cheers
Gav
It\'s black has aftermarket wheels, back box. In very good condition will be sold with 12 months unlimited mileage warranty.
Manage to sort out some pics. the model is a type r.

rear
Oh and it\'s lowered a little.

nice. Very subtle aftermarket wing, front lip spoiler, and wheels.
very tasty.
Is that a blitz boost guage or trbo timer I see?
Standard rear spoiler, re-amemiya front lip spoiler and blitz turbo timer.

Really? S\'not the same as my \'96 and I\'ve not seen one like that before so I assumed aftermarket.
Learn something new every day on here.
Very tasty car Brian. Sure it will be off to a good home in no time.
Thanks Brian, but its a little over my budget.
Cheers anyway.
Gav
R-Magic is nice stuff, like G said pretty rare too! As far as warranties go...i haven\'t a scooby do. But, of all the cars i\'ve seen supplied i\'ve only heard 1 \'horror story\'.
That said it\'s very commendable Brian offers the warranties etc in-house, so to speak. I believe New Era operate a policy for RX-7s, but it is an optional extra. Not sure how much the cover is though.
Hi to the new (er!) fellas too :wave and welcome to the forum! I\'m sure with enough searching you can find answers to anything here, and if not we\'re lucky to have a lot of really knowledgeable members! Never known such a friendly and helpful forum!
Quite right to be wary of the engine and implications associated with a high milage model Stu, the concensus seems to be that if you\'re looking to buy an FD with 50k miles+ to budget 3-4k for a re-build. That said, you\'ll prob notice such examples are relatively cheap. Insurance is also a big pain, and from all accounts the man at Shell is really going to like me...but in any case it\'s still sensational value for money imho...what other car could provide such excitement and exclusivity?
Another few months and i should be about ready to get down to my first meet, with a bit of luck i\'ll be able to meet up with you guys and we\'ll have a kinda \'veterans-newbies\' day! :D
That Sounds like a good idea. I think there is a good day at Santa Pod on the 10th October. I could have the date wrong but i believe this is another Jap car event along the lines of JAE. Maybe someone could help me on the dates?
Id love to have my FD by then but i wont be ordering until next year at the mo. I need to get some cash saved up in case of emergencies ( Like rebuilds and insurance companies trying to rip me off).
That said im hoping to get a good quote as the Rex will be a 3rd car in the household with me and the missus, ltd mileage etc.
Fingers crossed all will work out for all those Rex dreamers out there!!!
Ahmen.
:wave :bandit :) :)
yep you have the date correct http://www.japshow.com/ (http://www.japshow.com/)

Si
Well itlooks like you have a little while to get loads of info etc about the cars before you make your final decision! Although i\'d probably recommend ot staying on here too long, i stumbled across this site a complete newbie, just toying with the idea of an FD, and now it seems there\'s no way i\'m going to survive without one! :D
TBH, it\'s prob going to be next year for me too. Especially if i go down the newera route...by the time i\'ve figured out what i want and Miguel\'s found one & shipped it it\'s bound to be next year before i take delivery!
Check with Newera, as I\'ve not dealt with them, but I\'m pretty sure I\'ve read that they offer warranty through motormall who do their SVA\'s etc. and that the motormall warranty (although fair) doesn\'t cover rotary engine rebuilds.
I could be wrong and if so, apologise in advance if anyone thinks this an inappropriate comment to make.
Ive heard about the warranty issue with Newera as well. I think i read another thread where Motermall refused to sort out a rebuild only a few weeks after delivery. Considering the warranty is £350 then it could be a bit of a problem.
I guess this is the risk you run when buying a rotary but the risks are very high. I would be very miffed if i spent 10g on the car and then had to shell out 3-4g on a rebuild.
That Said Newera seem to have a cast iron rep on this forum.
I suppose if you want a car that is rare, fast as F*&k, and looks stunning this is the risk that you have to take.
I\'m up for it!!!!!
From memory i think Newera do cover for rotor tips and seals, but as to whether that would constitute a full re-build i don\'t know.
I suppose it would depend on what caused the rebuild to be necessary in the first place. Unfortunately i\'ve got no idea as to the technical details as yet, although i do recall the instance you mentioned, but it does seem to be the only exception.
Still, as you said, it\'s the nature of the beast...and in a perverse way a little part of the FD\'s appeal! Stops Joe Average from getting one, as it really means you need to have an active understanding of the car and care for it a whole lot!!
Id Be Interested to see if a rebuild was indeed covered by the Newera Warranty?
It would certainly sway my decision between some of the import companies that are on this forum!!!!
As i said i would be upset of my car blew after a few weeks.
Another option would be Brian @ Rotary Imports (BNA_ELLIS on here), pretty sure he can personally source you one (and also carries stock) and his warranties are the best you\'ll find anywhere. Like Newera, you\'ll be VERY hard pressed to find anything but praise for Brian and the cars he supplies!
It looks like Brian or Miguel are the ones to go for.
I dont see many Blue or Silver carsa advertised though? Are these harder to get of? I think these two colours look FAB on the
FD.
Yeah very true mate. The blue (Innocent Blue Mica) is one of the nicest colours on ANY car, and looks different in every pic i\'ve seen of it! There are different shades of silver (depending on the year) and they all look great too, very classy and shows off the lines of the car perfectly. Think they are called Sunlight Silver Metallic, Highlight Silver Metallic and Silverstone Metallic, in order from new to old. Don\'t hold me to that though!! ;)
Half the fun of ordering one has gotta be specifying what you want, and from what i\'ve heard it really pays to be specific (within reason!).
Guess your right on ordering the car. I defo want a Blue or Silver since i think they look the best. (quality Grammar)
Cant wait to order it but that wont be till next year at the mo. Unless i win some cash or take on some underworld hitman type job.
just got an insurance quote thought £850 through tesco which i thought was quite good. that is for a 26 yr old, 7 yrs with licence, 6 yr ncd, in low crime area. Also its gonna be a weekend car since i drive a nice taxable company motor at the mo.
Would Brian Source me a Blue one if i asked nicely do you think? Im still not sure on the whole warranty and motermall thing?
I\'m sure I could if asked nicely:D I definitely could if asked nicely and paid:rollin
I had a friends mica blue 99 spec for about 2-3 weeks once we decided to swap cars for a few weeks. I loved it but still think black is best for FD\'s
Brian,
You have a PM.
Cheers
Stu.
I guess you fav colour for an FD is a personal Choice. I love the Blue as they seem more Rare.
Certainly all the Blue FD\'s i have seen have looked fantastic.
Stu
Get a purple one people, actually no don\'t makes mine better!!!!!
