Afternoon everyone!
I\'m Tom, live in the midlands and I\'m maybe in the market for an RX-7. I\'m not convinced yet, I keep fearing that it\'ll financially ruin me even as a rarely used second car so... convince me!
Anyone around the Warwick area with a fairly functional one mind showing me round one? I haven\'t really got too intimate with one yet and my knowledge of rotary engines is abysmal at best. So anyone who wouldn\'t mind showing me round and taking me out for a spin in one would be much appreciated.
Ciao for now...
Zep! Glad you could make it lol
Welcome to MRC Tom, looks like you already have a very RX-7 knowledgeable mate already to guide you along and you will also find many on here just as eager to help, once again, Welcome :Thumbs-up
Welcome to the mad house :D :D
Hah... Knowledgeable? Me? I barely know anything!
welcome to mrc:Thumbs-up
Expensive cars no doubt. My car drinks like theres no tomorow and its damn near standard. Parts arent cheap either. Lucky for me I sell car parts for a living and have access to most of what I need. As well as being able to do most work on it myself. If I wasnt able to do this I doubt very much I\'d still have the car. Make sure the one you buy has had a proper rebuild and been looked after, theres some buying guides on the web that expalain all this. Mine was quite a mess when I bought it and after a year its still not quite running right.
Pros and cons. Evan though Its cost me a small fortune already just getting it up to scratch I wouldnt be without one. Its the most fun car Ive ever driven as well as beautifull evan standard with no bodykit.
Thanks chaps.
Well skif, thought I might as well mosey on over here and see what\'s what!
Thanks for the info. I\'m kind of prepared for the fuel bills. I think. Besides being a second car, if I can\'t afford to drive it at some point... I won\'t! But yeah I\'ve budgeted 15mpg over a couple of thousand miles, and interestingly it still works out cheaper doing that and running my Leon TDi than it does my DC5 on its own. I\'m just trying to work out what I could buy with the money I have available, probably an absolute maximum of 5k for an FD. Problem is there are a few in that price bracket but what you can expect from any of them seems to be pot luck!
I firmly believe that until you get an FD and get it how you want it, it will always be pot luck. They are a strange engine and you cant trust that everyone who owns one knows how to look after it properly. I wish i knew what i know now before i bought my FD as i probs would have got a different FD. However after working on it and starting to get somewhere with it i wouldnt change it.
Yeah, there are a couple which want some work cosmetically well within my budget, but I could do with being shown round one that isn\'t for sale and the person who owns it actually cares about it. And works obviously so I could be shown what is what lol
I\'m not really in a rush to buy something, although I\'ve no doubt after a couple of weeks of only having the Leon at my disposal I\'ll probably change my mind! Ideally I\'d like something that has at least got cooling mods done as I would dearly love to have a car to take round the track, so long as the engine is relatively safe, everything else can be done over a period of however long.
So basically Zep, what youre asking is if there is either a knowledgable owner around warwick/birmingham or if there is a decent rotary specialist nearby? Lol.
Theres RXMotors in dorset
Hayward Rotary in newbury
Umm thats really the only ones i know of hand.
How is Dorset near Birmingham lol
Am i the only one who thinks,As a second car, these cars are cheap as chips to own. Ive had mine 5 years now and its been cheap cheap cheap.
Cheap insurance
cheap tax
Cheap servicing, oil/filters/plugs/coolant £100 job done
If the weather is poop then it sits in the garage if not im out for a spin about.
Yes it drinks fuel, lots of it but as a second car if your feeling the pinch just save it for a nicer day.
Buying a good one is the key here, so spend your time looking and researching as much as possible first.
