Title: Should I rebuild it myself???
Post by: Adam fc on May 19, 2012, 08:38:29 PM
right here\'s my situation! my FC blew a water seal after 3 years of ownership and I\'ve been quoted a resonable price of £1200 for a rebuild by a well known reputable Rx tuner but I\'m tempted to rebuild it myself with one of the kits available from the states for around £700.00.
So my question is

1. What\'s the best kit available at the moment for a complete rebuild?
2. How difficult is the rebuild?

There\'s infinite info and resources available such as videos offering advice and tutorials and it all seems fairly straight forward! I\'ve done engine work on a lot of marine diesels rebuilds etc but that\'s as far as my experience goes with engines let alone rotarys!

look in to how much inport tax and handling charge your got to pay on a kit from the states, it works out about £190 on top of the kit

DIY it but only use OE parts and do your home work ;). Its handy to know some one with a badass air gun to get the 19mm and 54mm out off the Crank and if you have a bit of an OCD nature when it comes to cleaning the bits :)

as for how hard to do?? well its a bit time consuming if you do it right and you do need a few Measuring Impliments but if you have an old Laptop you can take in the garage with you and one of the many rebuild videos you won\'t have a problem.

Just remember its all in the cleaning ;)
