Title: Auto/Manual Swap
Post by: Mikey22 on May 16, 2012, 09:45:12 AM
Hey Guys,

Dont worry this isn\'t another \'is it possible to swap an auto to manual\' thread. I know its possible etc.

Actually the question i have is.....is it really cost effective enough to have the change done?

I was speaking to pip (emails) and he said he had performed a number of swaps and it was relatively straight forward. So i\'m not worried about that, from all the good i hear about him i trust him 100%. I\'m just wondering if its worth swapping in this car or sell the car and buy a manual.

Now even though i bought the car because it was cheap (no one really wants an auto) i still like it. Its got the lot, leather seats good stereo, Air con (which ive removed lol) climate control etc. Plus i\'ve always wanted a black car and well......its black.

So has anyone had this done for them? How much did it cost you? I know people have done it themselves to save labour etc but i think a job this big i dont think id rust myself to do a good job that lasts.

Penny for your thoughts

cheers

I\'ve done a couple for other people on here and between my self and trind-fd we managed to do it in a long day.

I would say that cost wise and of you think it\'s beneficial all comes down to how much you like your car and condition/engine etc etc getting the parts isn\'t hard it\'s the small things that get forgotten about such as slight loom alterations for the gearbox etc.

Yeah you have a point, i just dont want to go through the motions of selling an auto loosing mney on the sale then going out and buying a manual at a more expensive cost.

I bought my FD for £1800 so wouldnt get near that amount although i\'ve done a lot of work to it. Im replacing hoses at the moment.

Im just worried that if i send it in for a conversion then they use all new parts and make the bill sky high. I\'ve sourced most of the parts and only come to £1500. This was using second hand Gearbox etc but a new clutch plate etc.

They should use what you ask but its things like diff flange that could cost you a complete diff to get that gets forgotten about as the prop shaft is different from auto to manual

We are missing gearbox with clutch fork, gear knob and plastic surround for centre section, hydraulic pipe that runs along bulkhead from clutch/ brake master cylinder/servo to slave cylinder and possible slave cylinder as I don\'t know the condition of the spare here. Think that\'s all we are missing? Keith jump in if you can think of anything etc
