Hi,
Been replacing all the brake lines and the rear drivers side one from the tee-piece on the diff to the caliper goes through an odd cover / plate that bolts to the diff in three places with isolated mounts.
What an earth is this for? Doesn\'t seem to do anything but maybe protect the brakeline? Can\'t imagine why they isolated it as it is too thick to be a noise issue (usual cause for isolation).
Also noticed a weird pipe welded to the rear muffler can. Looks like its been cut short. No idea what this is for either?
Tim
the cover plate on the diff is to protect the brake pipe as you say and the pipe on the side of the back box is the old air pipe which was part of the stock exhaust / emission stuff on the standard car...... not used on the Elford
Cheers for the reply,
Mazda cannot find me the part number for the chassis to diff brake hose. Anyone know?

you can also download the original parts catalogue with the part numbers which you can then take to your main dealer..... most Mazda dealers don\'t have the microfiche for the 1st gens any more.
They are available for download here...

Hi Tim, I had this trouble a few years back.
No one that I could find had an off the shelf kit of FIVE hoses, - plenty of four way kits covering each wheel, but none with the chassis line in it.
I ended up sending a full set of lines to a Goodridge specialist to be made up.
(Fortunately I had a full set of lines off an old scrapper so my road car could keep going while they were made up).
I used Stevson at Aston in Brum. Work was OK but I had to trim and fiddle the connections. Still working fine though 4 or 5 years on.

Managed to get the right one through mazda.
Still can\'t believe that 3mm isolated diff plate to protect the brake line. Looks like a massive after thought... weird when the car has been in production for 5 years at the time.
It is almost if they had a few failures and ran out of time so thought lets put on a really thick plate and isolate it so there is no change of it braking!
