Title: 17inch or 18inch wheels ?
Post by: RX7Racer on April 26, 2012, 06:07:46 PM
should I get 17 or 18 inch wheels for a track day FD3 RX7 ?

would one be better handling than the other ?
whats the advantages / disadvantages of both ?

I know 18inch tyres are more expensive but you can fit larger brake disks inside 18s.

also what widths would be best on a standard bodied FD3,

thanks!

16s for performance
17s for all round performance/looks
18s for looks

OEM brake disks are very good if you simply add braided lines, and some decent pads - they are 4 pot.

17\'s or 18\'s.

The fd body takes big wheels really well so 16\'s wont too look good.

Also if you run 18\'s on the front you\'ve got to completely drop the car to make it look reasonable.

17 inch tyres are cheaper, lower un sprung weight and all that too

Type RZ\'s and Type RS\'s  always had 17" wheels as standard. Also the Spirit R\'s later.

As they were the more racetrack focussed models, I would guess that they would be on the optimum size wheels for track use.

They also had bigger brakes. Dont know if 16" will clear them,
