Title: Insurance, Tax, Fines
Post by: jetpilot on April 16, 2012, 10:35:25 AM
Guys after a recent thread and some new regulations i am just trying to confirm something.

I have bought a new daily driver but still have my old one. I have swapped the insurance over but whilst i am trying to sell my old daily i dont want to relinquish the tax!

If a vehicle is now taxed, does it also have to be insured, even if its not being used or kept on a public road? The insurance guy didnt seem to think this was the case!

yes it has to be insured, if not insured you haveto send the tax disc to be refunded and declare it SORN

Yeah you have to surrender the tax , BUT , they will write to you first , took them over 4 months to work out that mine was taxed and not insured

So you can chance it that way i suppose :D

So what about if you have a trade policy that doesnt list specific cars, surely it wont show up on the database either? Not that i do!

I didn\'t re-insure mine for about three weeks, it was taxed.

The law does state it has to be insured or SORN but I was also told they send you a warning letter before they take it away and crush it.

I didn\'t hear anything in the three week gap.
