Title: ***TRACKDAY, Snetterton (Norfolk), Thurs 26 July***
Post by: Casey on April 07, 2012, 05:10:17 PM
Booking is now taking place for this full day Open Pit Lane trackday. The cost for the day is £199, plus there is an option to drive in an evening session too, approx 6-9pm. The day is being organised by Pettit Racing in conjunction with Mazda on Track.

Its a big track and the plan is to try and make it a "closed group" event, so we need to get plenty of people signed up. Bring your friends, no matter what car they have.

A group of us had a really great time on this fabulous new 300 circuit last year. 3 miles of gloriously refurbished track with new bends and infield, 2 long straights, 2 challenging hairpins and 2 fantastic "onto the straights" complexes... all in all a UK great.

With evening BBQ, it will be a fun social event as well. Everyone is welcome to come along to mingle, chat, blag some passenger rides or just come along to hang out and maybe take some pictures.

Booking link is HERE (http://bespoke-performance-parts.eu/acatalog/More_Good_Stuff.html#a258). Or there is a link on the Pettitracing.co.uk homepage

If you are unfamiliar with this track then here\'s one complete lap of the "300" circuit taken from my drive around Snetterton last year - turn the sound down though as the wind noise is a bit loud!

If there are any questions about this day then just post up in here or send me a PM.

I\'ve done a bit of searching and found the Breckland Lodge. Its only a few miles from the circuit and includes secure parking, a carvery and a coffee room.

http://www.brecklandlodge.co.uk

Standard single rooms at £49.95 or premier rooms (with air con) at £59.95. Breakfast is extra at £6.25 for a full English.

They have 33 rooms and only a few are booked at the moment. I\'ve already booked and hope to see you there!

Ian.

Brilliant, I\'m up for a convoy....but Jim and Steve will have to drive slower, or stop a lot while I fill up the FD !!!!

Just need to replace the UJ\'s on the steering, as the upper UJ is \'shot\' and the lower UJ has some \'play\' in the joints.

Oh, and I have another Gearbox to fit !!! :Hammer

I bet the rest of you just have to wash and polish your RX\'s !   (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon11.gif)

I\'ve just updated the list of participants in the first post ^^ up there :D

Places are still available for this event - booking link is HERE (http://bespoke-performance-parts.eu/acatalog/More_Good_Stuff.html#a258). Or there is a link on the Pettitracing.co.uk homepage

This is a great track and with a growing bunch of rotary cars and owners coming along, so I\'m really looking forward to this one!

Spectators/Passengers are welcome to come along too. Entry to the track is FREE, you\'ll just need a helmet (available for hire on the day, or bring your own), plus a fee of ~£10 for a passenger wristband for the entire day - blag a ride in any car!

Hey Casey, What is the DB limit at Snetterton? :)

Used an App on my phone and it read about 104 on idle :s
Title: ***TRACKDAY, Snetterton (Norfolk), Thurs 26 July***
Post by: Casey on July 02, 2012, 03:46:32 PM
104dB on idle :2eek That\'s LOUD - no chance of getting on any UK circuit with that level. Are you sure you measured it correctly? I suspect the iPhone app isn\'t that accurate. You can purchase a db ("A" weighted, not "C") for less than £20 off Amazon. I\'ve just ordered one as I\'m getting lots of questions about noise levels. Rather than waste money on a trackday to find your car is too loud, might be worth investing in one of these?

Note there is a "drive by" limit (measured at 20 metres) at Snett, as well as the static test.

Snetterton is 105dB(A) at 6,000rpm; use THIS LINK (http://www.clubmsv.co.uk/car-trackday-noise-limits.aspx) which tells you all you need to know about levels and how it\'s tested.

Post by: Kodiak on July 02, 2012, 10:21:53 PM
Well as I say, it was only an App :p

it was reading ambient noise at 40-50db!

Cheers for the link! :cool

Going to Combe (The Local) to watch a TVR mate thrash his car around on the 5th. Will see if I can blag a free test there

Hi Greg,

there will be plenty of passenger rides available just ask :yes so bring that helmet.

Also, not staying at your hotel Clive but assume landlady would not be adverse to laying on a meal for someone staying nearby, either that or I\'ll be eating fish and chips in a Travelodge. :Nono!

Title: ***TRACKDAY, Snetterton (Norfolk), Thurs 26 July***
Post by: steve garbutt on July 21, 2012, 05:18:14 PM
Ill be trying to hire 2 garages at £30 each on monday, iv never been to snetterton so I don\'t know how many cars you can fit in one garage.

But if more garages are required I\'ll be happy to organise them and sort it all out at the track as we did at oulton.

Post by: Casey on July 23, 2012, 11:50:27 AM
^^^:Thumbs-up Nice on Steve.

I\'ve posted the following up on the RX8OC forum and hope that Robbie or NickD can pick up the thread. Hoping they can finalise garages as they know exactly who is coming and those who may already have paid for a garage.

"What are we doing about garages (£30 extra)? Normally we arrange for 1 garage for every three cars, so it\'ll cost £10 each. However, Steve Garbutt has booked two garages to share already and I don\'t know if anyone else may have booked a garage as well and may wish to share? I\'m up for a 1/3 of a garage.

Looking back on page 6 it would seem we have 17 cars paid up, but I don\'t know if that list is up to date. It looks highly unlikely to be raining, so we won\'t all want to get in the garages at the same time. I would suggest we book 6 (or more if the list is out of date) garages, Steve already has two) and that should cover us, so an extra four+ needed.

Robbie/NickD - I guess you are the only guys who will know exactly how many RX8OC and MRC cars are booked in, and who may have already booked a garage. Can I suggest you reserve a block of garages suitable for ~3 per garage and you can collect £10 on the day from anyone who wants to share the block; exc Steve, who will want to collect 5x£10 towards his outlay on the day.

Is that the best way forward?"

I\'ve just emailed NickD to propose he reserves a block of garages together,  sufficient to accomodate 3 cars per garage. Hopefully, everyone will be happy to pay £10 for a garage share, either direct to people who have paid, or to NickD.

Waiting for Nick to get back to me and if he agrees I\'ll post something up along those lines asap, so we all know what we are doing on the day when we arrive ;)

(Also posted up on RX8OC)

My thanks too to the organisers for another great trackday:Thumbs-up

What a great turnout of rotaries too :)  Fantastic to see such a great crowd of familiar and new faces too, which made it a very enjoyable social day out too. For anyone reading this thread and is thinking of doing trackdays just come along to watch, chat and take some passenger rides. The experience will enable you to decide if you want to give it a try in your own car. You don\'t have to push 10/10, just the pace at which you feel comfortable.

Highlight for me was a passenger ride with DreRX8 driving behind Clive and sticking to the back of him like glue. However, Clive, to be fair, was driving on some tyres that he\'d never driven on before and weren\'t as grippy as his usual ones, losing him well over 5 seconds a lap. I was massively impressed with Dre\'s driving on with the R888\'s on, the grip was awesome, and he was exploiting every bit of it :god

Lowlight of the day, seeing the damage to bigpete\'s car  - glad to hear you got home OK though and I hope you can get it sorted out soon. That\'s one lovely car so I do hope it will soon be back as good as new .

I had a slightly frustating day, first with a misfire (but no CEL??) on my first "full-on" run. Came back in, dropped off passenger wheel to check plug leads and found one that seemed to have become slightly unseated. Many thanks to Hypo, Harrizone and others for help/support whilst I dealt with the issue (that\'s why this club is so great). Back out again and the misfire had been resolved  Then, despite having changed the gearbox oil the day before, I was getting a severe crunch on the three sections of the track that I needed to change up from 3rd to 4th on the beep. Seemed like a synchro problem. To get round it, I was having to count "1-2" before engaging 4th and releasing the clutch. I\'ll get the oil changed for another brand and "name and shame" the brand I used if it solves my issue. The probelm is not present unless I\'m accelerating hard and take it to the beep in 3rd and want to keep accelerating in 4th - not something I\'ll (legally) do on the road!

I\'ll get some video posted up over the weekend, but I\'ve had a look and there is nothing spectacular on laptimes, just a solid set of 2m33\'s.

Here you go  - video of a few laps from my keyfob camera mounted near the passenger side foglamp. To get the best qaulity picture click on the gearwheel, bottom right, and select 1080p HD, if you have a decent broadband service!

Note me having a little battle with Jim in his black RX-7 TurboII FC. He leaves me for dead on the straights, but I manage to catch him on a slingshot out of a fast corner. Not sure if I would have got past if the 2CV diden\'t help though! Then there is a brief glimpse of Grant\'s red RX-7 just as he\'s pulling into the pits. Finally, you get a view of the Carl Hayward black bridgeported RX-8 passing me down the main straight and disappearing into the distance :o - I want one  :mmmm:mmmm

Just to add my thanks to the organisers and everyone who turned up and provided great banter and support throughout the day.

Big thanks to Steve Garbutt, who suddenly appeared under the RX as I investigated an Oil leak late in the day (the leak was from the gearbox!!). Hopefully a full investigation will not lead to any more than some fastners requiring tightening.

Looking forward to the next track day....hint hint (http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif)

Hi guys, not posted on here for a while but after a day like that it\'d be rude not too,

First off I\'d like to thank carl Hayward for once again letting me loose in his rx8, I really enjoyed the whole day and met some really nice genuine people.

The car performed amazingly and I believe it showed to lots out there that you don\'t have to spend a fortune to make a fast and well handling rx8

Rest of the set are here but I am adding more over the weekend, this was just a quick run through this evening....

The settings on MRC seem to resize the pic making it seem a bit blurry, if you look on Flickr they arent like that. Must be some compression somewhere.

Same as Malcolm also posted on RX8OC

First off a big thanks to both Robbie and MOT for orgainising the day it was great.
I had a great time and loved the Bomb Hole and out on to Coram, the hairpins were a bit of a nightmare especially Montreal where I just didn\'t have the grip, I also kept getting Hamilton wrong and not using all the track on the exit.  Must also add a thanks to Aston for coming out with me and giving me some tips and as i thought without any cones to show turn in points(both the other two track days i\'ve done there have been both braking and turn in cones) I was turning in to early and also not using all the track in places.

In two of my sessions I was chasing down Steve Garbutt in his stripped out RX8 the first time he had a set of track tyres on and he had more grip in the corners and coming out of them but I was able to close heavily under braking due in part to my Racing Brakes and new XT960 pads and got past him, in the second time when he was back on standard road tyres I was able to catch him quicker and pass him and leave him behind more than in the first session.
I also found towards the end of end of my sessions I could really feel the tyres losing grip which was a real shame as it was then that I started to get things better in the corners. I know what I want for Christmas and that\'s some track tyres.
I did the first two session of the day on some ET500 pads(which were worn out after three sessions at Japfest about 1k road miles and the two sessuons at Snetts) and then changed over to the XT960 which gave more initial bite and also look as if they\'ll last longer.

It was sad to see Pete go off and I hope you get your Rex back on the road soon.

As the others have said if you haven\'t been to a track day get yourself along to one as there great even if you\'re not driving you can have passenger rides and have a good time as people are only out on track for at most a 1/3 of the time so penalty of time to have a chat with people.

Now to get my name down for Brands Hatch and hope there\'s one before then.

As everyone else has posted, it was a fantastic day, big thanx to all the organised and also everyone who attended.
Only my second trackday and i struggled to remember the circuit and as id lightened the car out it was riding 30mm higher than stock so was unnervingly wobbly out of bends haha, so had to back off a lot for a number of the corners as i didnt know what was coming.
Managed to have a nice dual with RX8Head for a few laps when i managed to test some pre production sticky tyres but his knowledge of the track and far better brakes he eventually bunted me down and slowly left me, next session out and i was back on some old road tyres and RX8Head very quickly caught me up hunted me down and left me for dead.
I cant believe how fast the 2cv was in the corners :S
Cant wait for the next, but ill have to invest in some lowering springs and a set of stickys, oh ill have to get a memory to remember the corners as well haha
