Well i never knew that, learn something new every day! Think you\'re probably bang on with the wiring...although i\'d be tempted to leave it as a \'one off\'!

Couldn\'t help but laugh when i read this...what was your reaction i wonder?

A pretty quick fix is to fit a new buzzer yourself.
Get a 12v buzzer from Tandy or something and a couple of "scotch-lok" connectors, a bit of wire and make it something like this....

just realised i described the problem completely wrong!

its not when i leave the lights on, dont know why i said that, but when i leave the key in the ignition! im sure (not positive) it used to beep at me when i turned the engine off but left the key in the ignition and opened the drivers door.

If it did used to do that is doesnt any more, but the passenger side one does, i.e if passenger side door is opened with key in the ignition it starts beeping. Maybe its always done this and i\'ve never noticed and im imagining things???

Maybe its just a warning noise to let me know the doors open and not about the key left in the ignition??

:rollin this car has the habit of making me rather paranoid!! :D

Cheers!

But first check the earth at the "door closed" switch on the drivers side.

So yours beeps when you leave the key in the ignition and open the drivers door?? Mine doesnt do that but im sure it used too. But i wonder why the passenger side one does it, thats why im thinking its just to let you know the doors open and maybe only the passenger side should beep and not the drivers??? Very odd.

Ryan - sounds like you\'ve swapped something over - it should only give the warning if you open the driver\'s door!

If the drivers door is open with the key in the ignition then the beep will sound

Rite for future reference for anybody else with this problem heres how i solved it:

Theres a little black knob in the door jam where the door closes (behind driver) and you can see that from outside the car, you can push it in and out with your finger like a button. When the door is open the "button" is up and therefore is grounded. This is the door sensor, tells ecu#2 that door is open, and tells it to beep away etc. it also tells your bloody alarm not to try locking the door while the door was open when you start the car. Locked myself out of my car the other day because it locked when i had the door open, i got out to close the garage, closed the door, and... poo.... locked out.

Anyhow, back to the point, when you turn the key in the ignition without starting the car, with the door open, it SHOULD beep. And same goes for door open with lights on.

When i was taking out my interior i seem to have knocked the other end of the door sensor which is behind the trim right at the edge of the panel with the speaker in it, nearest the door (obviously behind where the black knob is from the outside)

I seemed to have bent it, a number of people i have spoken to have broken theirs and needed to replace it, i just bent mine back and bobs your uncle its all working nicely again, lots more beeping, and no locking of door while door is open, SUPERB!! :D

I had the same system in my 1987 Nissan Laurel, except the Japanese in their wisdom decided that a voice sythesiser would be better than a beep, so if I left the keys in the Ignition and opened the Driver\'s door, I would get some bint repeating "Key is in the ignition....key is in the ignition....key is in the ignition" until I removed the key of closed the door.

She would also tell me if the fuel was getting low, I\'d left my lights on, if the handbrake was still applied when pulling away, or any of the doors were not properly latched when moving!

Yeah I thought it should be doing it on both doors, at lease thats what mine does! It can be annoying if you want the stereo on with the doors open, like when drying the car after washing, as it beeps away if you have the keys in the \'acc\' position.  You have to turn on the ignition properly to make it stop! Annoying!
